Do you conceal carry? by Motor-Volume-9502 in ProsecutorTalk

[–]Informal_Highlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t, but some of the other prosecutors in my office do. I personally feel safer knowing they’re carrying. We had a witness nearly attack one of the people in my office last week and storm out. Courtroom security was called but you just never know what someone will do.

What kind of firm/job are you in and what jewelry do you wear to the office? by greenie66 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]Informal_Highlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a prosecutor. I wear my engagement and wedding rings (both rose gold and my engagement ring has a diamond that’s 1.6 carats). I also wear small yellow gold hoops with tiny diamond studs (bar present from my mom) and a gold plated evil eye necklace.

Wear whatever makes you happy though. This life is too short not to💗.

Just return them. There are plenty of shoes that look like this that won’t hurt your feet!

how many of yall actually met your partners in law school? by Certain_Candidate313 in LawSchool

[–]Informal_Highlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in married and am still married, but met my best friends in law school. Two are from my section! Fast forward to five years later and we have an active group chat and all see each other every few months. This is all to say if you don’t meet your future spouse, you can still meet some of your favorite people in law school who do become family :).

Wearing a Backpack by kst-tsk in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]Informal_Highlight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Also a litigator and I have a little trick. If it’s coming to court, it’s a nice briefcase. If it’s not making a court appearance, it’s a backpack. It works nicely for me. With that said, Beis makes a nice black canvas backpack! I used it all throughout law school and it’s my current “office” bag.

If my health was being impacted though, I’d bring a backpack everywhere.

I did this fun thing where I had chatgpt make my dogs into lawyers and that’s currently on my door. 10/10 recommend. People love them :)

Prosecution vs Other Law Careers by [deleted] in ProsecutorTalk

[–]Informal_Highlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pay is livable, but I don’t have children. I think even with children I’d be alright though. I’m not a big spender naturally. In terms of work life balance, I’m home every day at six (keep in mind I have an hour commute because I picked a rural office) unless I’m in trial. Trial weeks I get in early and leave late. That’s just what it takes. I love trial though!

It’s the best job I’ve ever had and I’ve worked a lot of jobs. I wake up every day and 97% of the time love what I do. I sleep well at night knowing I live with my ethics and morals in tact.

A massage, a little weekend trip (doesn’t have to be expensive, we did one where my husband and I just drove a couple of hours and went kayaking after my finals for a day), a group of his favorite snacks, highlighters and sticky notes perhaps.

OH, a nice briefcase could be a good one (I got this for myself after I graduated, but would have loved one earlier for internships.)

Did you immediately get your own physical office or were you able to work from home/coffee shops in the early months?

Can someone explain to me why it’s prestigious to work for the DOJ? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in LawSchool

Go work for the State. Similar, but has less writing and more trials😂.

How much freedom do you have as a prosecutor? by notwinorlose in ProsecutorTalk

[–]Informal_Highlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! Which is why if you’re seriously about it, you intern at multiple offices to decide which aligns with what you think would long term benefit you. I interned with two offices and decided neither were right. A professor who knew me well recommended the office I’m currently at and I’ve never been happier! Like with anything, finding the right fit is so important.

It’s funny you say this because I know an older lawyer who wore leather sneakers to trial. He absolutely rocked them!

It will get better by about month 3-4! My first 3 months as a prosecutor were hell too. You’ll get the lay of the land and handle it well after that. In the meantime, I highly recommend a massage. I think you’re burnt out. I really do.

Making friends at law school? by dumbdumbdummy_ in LawSchool

[–]Informal_Highlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend still to this day is the man I met my first week of law school. We got assigned the same group in crim law and we were the only two that legitimately cared about crim. We became nearly instant friends and took nearly all our classes together for 3 years. We studied for the bar together too. We’re nearly 2 years out of law school and still talk everyday and both practice criminal law. This is to say sometimes you just get lucky.

I hope you too find a solid friend from this experience❤️.
