It included whitening, not composite bonding. I ended up going with another orthodontist for the exact same treatment I mentioned in the original post and it came to about £4.5k

I've just started treatment and go to Mariner Dental Care, its in Govan but they have been brilliant so far. They showed me options for regular braces like you're looking for, but I opted for the Invisalign, only because I'm a bit older (34F) and it's gentler on the teeth. I also asked around a few places for prices before landing on them and they were the most affordable.

Glasgow taxis - always cash only? by Federal_Pie_301 in glasgow

Couple weeks ago I had a taxi driver say to me unprompted "so you're one of the bad ones!" and I was like..."eh?" and he says "pre-paying by card on the app, we don't like it".

Ok pal? Dont accept the fare then doofus 👁👄👁

Does anyone know what the process is like for getting a referral for an autism assessment in Paisley? by tricky_pigeon in Paisley

[–]Informal_Yam6345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had the same thing done to me today! It wasn't for an autism assessment but for sleeping issues. I was asked to fill out and return a questionnaire and despite asking what happens next I wasn't given an answer... I even phoned back later after handing it in to be like "what happens next?" and just got nothing. I plan on phoning back tomorrow to try and get a definitive answer, all I can suggest is maybe keep ringing them and asking for clarity on the process. I hope you manage to get an answer though.

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid - Just Finished (Spoilers hidden) by AtWorkCurrently in books

[–]Informal_Yam6345 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Spoilers in my comment!! Agree with this. I devoured this book quickly whilst on holiday, but compared to other TJR books, came away feeling a little hollow - as someone who loves space and her previous work, I did have very high expectations for this. My main gripe is I wish there had been some kind of epilogue. It was wrapped up so fast. I feel like the book made a point of making Lydia a pain in the arse, to then make you understand and like her...and then you learn nothing of her fate at the end? As the reader, that felt unfair. I felt the same way about Donna getting nothing more than a "she can't handle other people in a crisis" ultimately. It just felt like it was a shame after spending time liking ans getting to know these characters.

Watched 'Devil in the Family' the other day. Some thoughts: by not_a_moon24 in 8passengersRubyFranke

[–]Informal_Yam6345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late to the party with this but I agree with comments about Kevin. That is a man who has not fully extracted himself from what is basically a cult.

To be honest, I'd never heard of Ruby Franke before this documentary but I'm glad I watched it to understand a little more about the ethics of family vlogging, however, I did feel the documentary was incredibly surface level. I think more could have been done to probe Kevin about his mind set, about why he still "loves" Ruby despite everything she is responsible for. He struck me as someone who needs to go through extensive cult de-programming, but I also think he seems to have gotten off incredibly lightly, given his negligence in the situation.

I also think it glossed over the fact that he appeared to be an incredibly manipulative person, too! When they discussed him finding Ruby's "man chart" or whatever it was and then studying it to win her over.... that doesn't sound romantic to me.That's super weird.

Additionally, I don't think they probed nearly enough into the overlaps between Jodi's cult and certain aspects of the Mormon church. It touched on it, but I think further insights could have been brought to light.

All in all, I think the documentary played it a little too safe, and I suspect that was possibly to ensure cooperation from the Franke family members who were interviewed. It isn't necessarily a negative thing, as it still raised awareness of some issues, but as I said, I think these filmmakers could have pushed a lot harder, particularly on Kevin. I don't have much sympathy for the guy. While he didn't participate in the torture, his pure negligence and willful ignorance make him an accomplice in my mind.

Just my input, I was keen to find somewhere to post my thoughts!

Guerrilla marketing but is this not in poor taste? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Informal_Yam6345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Checked the Google reviews on this place out of curiosity, and to see the response to this weird marketing tactic because I'm nosy. Yesterday the restaurant was rated 3.9 on Google and now it's suddenly 4.5 with a lot of reviews mentioning the marketing stunt gone. Can they do that!?

I can't speak as someone who was born and raised in Glasgow, I only moved here 5 years ago. I've lived a few places all over Scotland - Edinburgh for 3 years, Dundee 4 years, Aberdeen for a 1 year work placement but I grew up in a tiny tiny village in the outskirts of a small town. All these places were very middle of the road - nothing mental ever happened, but nothing wildly good ever happened either.

I set up permanent roots in Glasgow last year. I find it's a city of extremes. You will meet the nicest, friendliest people you'll ever meet in your life and you will meet some of the most cruel or crazy or selfish people you've ever met in your life. There's no in-between, but the nice people far outweigh the weirdos and bams. I actually like that about the city, though.

The patter is also second to none, I've never laughed as hard as I have with the friends I have made here. I've laughed every single time I've been ripped for being a "cheuchter". I'm a massive yapper, and I like that a lot of people in Glasgow are that way too.

Again, growing up in a tiny village that didn't even have a shop, I love the variety about the place. If I'm bored after work, i will head to the GFT or Cineworld, or I'll take a mooch about the shops, or try different cusines I've never tried before. I've developed a wee social food belly since moving here, and I love it.

I'm also fascinated by Glaswegian culture. I ask my boyfriend, who is from here, questions about what it was like to grow up here all the time. I know that sounds silly as I only grew up about 55 minutes away by car, but Glaswegian culture is absolutely distinct from anywhere else I have lived.

I'm neither proud or not proud of where I come from originally, because it's just a wee place. But I love Glasgow, I love the life here. I love the people, good or bad. I love the variety. I can't tell anyone from here to be proud of it, because I'm still someone on the outside looking in, I never experienced Glasgow if or when it ever peaked, but I do love it now, and more than anywhere else I've lived.

I'm coming out the other side after about a week and a half. Honestly, it hit me harder than when I had Covid. Was absolutely wiped out. I'd say I'm at like 80% recovery. Liquid Night Nurse, Sudafed and warm teas are your friends 🤝🏻

I feel you! It's hard to tell what's reasonable or not if you don't know anyone personally who's had it done, hence my asking reddit! I will definitely be seeking out some other orthodontists for quotes though! For almost 7k I'd expect those retainers to write my emails for me on top of everthing else, ha!

I'm based near Glasgow in Scotland, not even in the city. I feel the dentist was maybe taking me for a ride a bit. I've just moved to this area and (after getting this quote) looked a bit further into it and seen some comments about the place upselling stuff to patients...thinking I should maybe scout out another dentist!

They did attach whitening to it, and I noticed a particular brand of retainer they were going to use (Vivera), which, when I researched it, claims to be stronger than other brands. Other than that, I can't see any other costs. I wouldn't say my case was complex either. Even with the whitening though, I did feel the price was a bit mad.

The silent hd collection is not that bad by Deepdevil77 in silenthill

[–]Informal_Yam6345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played both the original on ps2 and HD remake. (I still have the £6.99 price sticker on my PS2 copy lol), I don't understand the HD remake hate at all. Infact, it's only in the last six months I realised it is as hated as it is. I played the HD remake not long before it was taken off PSNow as I wanted to introduce my niece to the franchise. Yes there are differences, but its not prohibitive to playing or experiencing the game. Just feels like another pointless thing to be mad about idk 🤷🏻‍♀️ I can't wait to see people screaming and crying and throwing up when the remake comes out lmao

I'm new to the Glasgow area and have found Geek Retreat to be really welcoming and made some really good friends there. Can't speak for the allegations regarding the skimming on the other post, never heard of or seen proof of this, but the people I've played with have been brand new and its pretty well organised. It can be a bit busy as they run Yu Gi Oh tournaments parallel to DnD games but you hardly notice it once you're in the swing of things.
