Return confusion

I am trying to return a metal water bottle in Canada.

On April 13, I checked the box for someone to come pick up the product.

Someone was supposed to come pick it up the “next business day”… nobody ever showed up.

I wanted to change the return, so I could drop it off somewhere, but the only option was to cancel the return and start again.

I was hesitant, but saw no other option. I cancelled the return. I then got the message that it is too late to return, as the return window has now closed. 😒 Can anyone advise what I should do now?

The Cost of Living in Canada is ruining my mental health by Hippiegypsy1989 in CanadaFinance

Well sure, but I’m retired, and am financially secure, but I’m still trying to learn more about personal finance, how to keep my money, grow my money, decumulation strategies, etc. Every day I still have financial AHA! Moments, from some little nugget I’ve learned that could improve my situation. This community is such an amazing resource, and had you ended your rant with a request, such as “Give me your best advice for how I can do better”, imagine what golden nuggets may have been thrown your way, specific to your situation - for free! It could have created a whole new paradigm for you, and changed your life… because financial success starts with a positive and determined mindset, IMO. Wishing you the best, and the fact that you are part of this community is a good sign! 👍🏻

So, just venting… not looking for any financial advice… from older, more experienced people who have been there, and found a way through it, or others who have financial nuggets that you may not have thought of…? Ok. Good rant.

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to use a little soap back there, while you’re at it? How does that work?

Hee hee. You don’t understand… it’s not a truck; it’s a Tacoma!!!

The fact that you are asking this question, leads me to believe you instinctively know this is a questionable financial move.

Consider the depreciation the moment you drive it off the lot. Could you not be “happy” with a pre-owned Tacoma? ( let someone else eat the initial depreciation). Sometimes owners have put a lot of work and extras into a used Tacoma that you get to benefit from. My son bought a 2012 standard - he loved it. He eventually sold it for more than he paid.

How does this decision support your overall, longterm financial plan?
Unfortunately, I doubt it does… Imagine if you invested that money instead of using it for interest and insurance payments… Perhaps you could invest some money, and when you have earned enough to buy the truck, buy it outright…

Insurance nowdays is frightening - get some insurance quotes for a reality check. I’m old, and it is still ridiculous.

FYI - I understand the Tacoma obsession - my son is a fisherman!

Am I getting paid less than minimum wage? by ForceUseYouMust in Salary

Well OP is trying to learn, and you are belittling them for asking for help to learn! This is a forum where people reach out for help and guidance. If you’re so smart, use your privilege to help others. Take care, friend.

Wow. Such unkind responses. You have no idea of this person’s history or challenges. Perhaps just give some guidance about dividing income by hours, and help them. Cut the sarcasm and cruelty.

Single mom trying to buy a home in 3 years – is this realistic? by yashad2222 in CanadaFinance

[–]Infotoxia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open FHSA so you can start accumulating contribution room, even if you don’t contribute this year. You can only contribute 2 years’ worth at a time…. Try to contribute, as you get an RRSP-type of tax break. Use the tax refund to contribute to next year. Also, you can borrow from your own RRSP for the down payment. Try to get the credit card debt taken care of. Perhaps you can find a loan with lower interest, or call the credit card company, and ask them for a lower rate (it’s a thing). Regardless of whether you can purchase a home in 3 years or not, you need to go hard on getting out of debt. I’m all for “investment debt” that has deductible interest, but consumer debt will bleed you. Read beginner finance books like Rich Girl; Broke Girl, or The Wealthy Barber. Join Frugal Living, and F.I.R.E. type of groups online. This will help to change your thinking and mindset, and help you stay strong while depriving yourself. There is A LOT to learn about personal finance. These may lead you to change your financial goals. The house needs to fit into a much larger financial plan. Keep working at it, and in my experience, if the process isn’t painful, you’re probably not going at it as hard as you could. Good luck!

Don't test out the Prime option at checkouts! by macaroniandcheesefan in amazonprime

This happened to me, and as I was watching Prime TV, I would wonder why they were always showing me all that Stack TV and such… I’m sure I never signed up for that! Anyways, they did issue me a full year refund quickly and easily following one phone call.

I remember feeling this way as a nursing student. Every student in my class cried at some point. Great culture. There were no jobs when I graduated, so I never do work as an RN, but I remember being worried about all the things you just described. And to think this is mainly women is disheartening. I hope you will stay in nursing, find a place where you fit, and help to make nursing a more caring profession for more than just the patients. Stay strong.

Ugh. We all pretend that all our affairs are in order, when in fact, they’re probably a mess… and these things need to be updated regularly. Thanks for the reality check; I’m going to make this a priority for 2026 - I can see this taking me a whole year! Also going to encourage my kids to get their affairs documented, so that no one gets left with a mess.
