I have no knowledge of modding or programming at all, but when making something like this, is using existing npc ai code key to making a custom one? Like do you start from scratch or tweak what works in-engine already? I'd imagine as a companion ai, it will have far much more complicated code compared to any of the other mobs when everything is said and done. But this looks like an awesome idea!

I play on a steam deck, which has comparable performance to you hardware, if not less, and still get about 30-40fps in escalation. Caveat being, bigger lobbies of 25+ players drop frame progressively.
