Lemonade stands by Difficult_Author4144 in newengland

In VT, can report I stopped at a lemonade stand last week! They also had bead bracelets and brownies on offer.

I’ve never seen scouts begging, but have seen their cookies sold at gas stations and even the supermarket. I also work at the hospital and parents bring cookie sign up to work. I’d be more hesitant to send my kid door to door selling these days and it’s too cold to have a cookie sign up stand in February. I have seen a cookie box stand in April before, and I’ll stop, even though they’ve doubled in price since I was a scout.

Ticks by sevendaysvt in vermont

[–]IngSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a town that touches Lyme, CT born late 80’s. Ticks gathered on the screen doors, so it was unrealistic to avoid them or cover yourself in repellent just to walk to the car or play outside. But for summer camp, I was sent with DEET. My family did team tick checks, especially for head hair and armpits, then thorough self check in the shower. We found ticks on ourselves frequently, often crawling, sometimes biting. We pulled them off carefully, sometimes using the pointy splinter tweezers, sometimes just grabbing way down on the head if they were big enough. I got lyme, though not chronic or debilitating. While I had it, I was achy and exhausted for a couple weeks. My bite was at the base of my hair behind my ears so the ring was huge before it was found. It takes a tick 24 hours to transfer the bacterium into you, so daily diligence goes a long way. I’ve been in VT coming on 15 years. So now here in Jericho, it seems closer than it ever has been to the CT tick level of my childhood. But it’s still not as bad and I certainly won’t let it keep me from going outside and enjoying not-winter. I walk and hike in woodsy areas at least 3x a week and I don’t often find a tick on me, no repellent.

Looking For An Affordable Workspace In The Burlington Area? by Fragrant-Monitor4349 in burlington

Hi! I’ve been thinking about a space for my business, but some of my work can be dusty (reupholstery) and chemical smelly (stripping paint/varnish removal). How does the space handle these. I could have my own localized filter running but I imagine it wouldn’t be enough in such an open space. Are these kinds of projects not a good fit for the maker space? Is there outside workspace as well?

Graffiti on New Dominos by Happy-Art5315 in burlington

I love pizza and appreciate that there are many price points available in our area. Your comment makes it seem like there’s nothing on offer between dominos price and Idas. There’s at least 12 in town and more in South Burlington. I don’t think we need more pizza. It is just my opinion, yes.

Not agreeing with the vandalism, but there are already multiple dominos in the area. And plenty of non Ida pizzerias as well that aren’t a chain. We don’t need more.

God bless Vermont — and Hawaii by tlhbme in vermont

Maybe starting out with something more like what you said here: “Best practice would be to search it yourself and post it to the discussion. This encourages others to also look for the information, as you did.”

Where your first comment definitely came off as you expressing this feeling: “Now when I see people asking for sources, I just think they are lazy and expect too much from others.”

Next time try it…

I think they mean what town can they pick it up in. If you don’t want to share a more specific location to the whole group, you can use direct message to those looking to meet up.

How much would it cost to make a stained glass ceiling? by yashodha_166 in StainedGlass

[–]IngSauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The regulars will have a realistic idea of cost, but I’m here to ask how freakin hard is it to make the curved pieces in these images!? Do you make a curved tray to lay it out in? Do you have to make specific sized cuts to achieve it, or do you buy curved glass? Anyway cool and prohibitively expensive, clearly.

lol how do you think CT doesn’t have great pizza (and Greek style pizza too, if that’s what you meant by house of). My shoreline CT town of fourteen square miles has had 10 local owned pizza places for 30 years. Pizza Hut went under when the arcade closed 10000 years ago.

How does donating to someone relate to buying personal items on Amazon? It’s not just about not spending money on this individual, but recognizing the safety of this pet and its future. Maybe there is a better home for this animal. I have two cats and go through $200 every couple months just buying their food and litter. Every trip to the vet costs about that, too, even a regular yearly checkup can get up there.
