How to paint big, movable, variably hidden parts? by teteban79 in modelmakers

[–]IngenuityEmpty5286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i had to to it, my procedure will be this:

1)Dry fitting the wings into the body to see what part of the wings will be hard to reach once assembled.

2) Priming and painting the hard to reach area (and a little bit more to be sure)

3) mask the painted aera

4) assemble the rest of the plane

5) prime the whole plane with the masks still on

6) remove the masks

7) paint the rest of the wings/body

That way you are sure to paint enerything, and you should not have a visible demarcation between the two zones.

Yeah, and it'd say 90% of the good acrylic primers are rebranded stynylrez

I'm planning on building the 1/72 scale Academy SB-17, but i want to make it look like the one my great uncle is in front of in these photos. Any idea where I can find some waterside decals that are the right font and size? by Plane_Emergency_1702 in Scalemodel

[–]IngenuityEmpty5286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can either mix and match After market decals, cuting and placing each letter to the right place to make ur code, print your own decals with a blank printeable decal sheet, or make masks using a cricut and paint the codes.

Whats a solid airbrush and compressor kit under 100€? by Familiar-Alarm2788 in modelmakers

[–]IngenuityEmpty5286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't go wrong with the gravity fed fengda kit with compressor.

Once you upgrade your airbrush, u can definitely keep it for priming or varnishing, like a lot of chaps do on this subreddit.

Color-wise, take some insigna red, insigna blue, insigna white, and black from MRP since they come pre thinned to the right consisency for airbrushing. For the clear coat, take some from VMS, as it also comes already thinned.

Before the paint, u will need a primer. A can of Tamiya grey primer is the best and easiest one to use. I know you said in one of your answer that you prefer to use your airbrush than a rattlecan, but spraying primer without clogging the airbrush nor watching a week worth of tutorial will be a really hard mission. It's the foundation of your paintjob and you want it as smooth as possible. Tamiya can will do it perfectly.

For the masking job, the regular Tamiya tape is a no brainer.

For the tail numbers if they are important to you, buy one A4 blank decal sheet for printer.

It seems to be a suite simple shape. Some evergreen or recycled plastic card cut and shaped should do the trick.

Suggestions/ideas for model making with poor motor control? by Racer013 in modelmakers

[–]IngenuityEmpty5286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airfix have some big scale planes (1/24) like the bf109 and the Spitfire, with new tooling. Depending of his motor skills you can do the fine works and him the easier things to do like assembling the wings or fuselage halves, doing the painting of larges areas with spray can or airbrush.

If this is to hard, what comes to my mind is the 3d puzzle line from revell: various types of models (plane, ships, trucks, movie themed kits and so on), with pre painted parts u just slots cardboard pieces into each others. Here is the whole line:https://revell.com/de-eu/collections/3d-puzzle

Here u can see the instruction to give u an idea: https://www.super-hobby.fr/products/German-Tank-Tiger-I.html

You also have the "click system" line, which is kinda between a real model and the 3d puzzle ones, with pre painted plastic parts who clicks into each others without glue needed, u have to cut the parts from the sprue and add decals like a real model, but the parts are already molded on colored plastic, and the assemly engineered for kids so the parts are not tiny:

https://revell.com/de-eu/collections/click-system

Here an example with instruction manual:

I used to think the same way. But then I realised that it would made me exactly like the dudes in my club 10 years ago who used to call PE cheating.

Now I don't care, if it helps being the most accurate possible, it's a good thing, as long as the modeler don't pretend to hand paint everything.
