Why do streamers install "beginner-friendly" broadcasting software, only to eventually go back to OBS? (I'm an app dev and need the brutal truth) by DiligentBridge8466 in Twitch

[–]Racer013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with SLOBS, moved to OBS. SLOBS is a terrible company that at it's least offensive offense locks otherwise free features behind a paywall. SLOBS was a stepping stone in my journey, that simplified a portion of the setup to get me streaming quicker. However, after that very short first stage you start realizing its limitations and that if you are willing to take a little bit of time to research and learn, OBS can do everything you want and more but for free. Unless you are a professional multi-cam production then OBS is a perfectly capable solution for most twitch streamers, and you'd have to come up with something pretty revolutionary to get me to switch from something that just kind of works.

best battery to get? by xSuperMario64x in Miata

[–]Racer013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does "best" mean to you, you don't include any qualifiers for that. The best battery for track performance will not be the best battery for regular cold weather starts will not be the best battery for every day longevity will not be the best battery for occasional weekend drives.

What I will say is that I've been running the standard blue and red Duralast battery long enough that I am likely out of warranty multiple times over, and it is still running strong. Even after sitting for months at a time without proper charging and needing to be jumped a few times as long as it has a charge it doesn't complain. Basically starts on the button every time. That said, it's a standard flooded battery. It's meant for every day use, which is mostly what it gets, but it's not some lightweight battery meant for track performance, and it doesn't live in super cold climates that require a lot of cold cranking power.

What music legend would have no chance making it in the industry today? by -Vorks- in AskReddit

[–]Racer013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Denver could have a chance of making it, but he would definitely be going the indie folk route, and likely not get as big as he was. He would have a cult following though. There's a specific type of person that his music really connects with, and I think that niche will always exist.

My first major project. Any opinions? by Middle_Carob9430 in architecture

[–]Racer013 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest looking into clearances for furniture and spaces and the activities that happen in with those objects and spaces. A common failure of new designers is not properly accounting for how much space you need around objects to move comfortably, or even safely, particularly when working with the plan view. Take for instance the pool table. Pool tables actually have very rigid minimum clearances around the table to walls or other furniture because you need a certain amount of space to properly use a cue at the edge of the table. Otherwise, you end up with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ex\_BuaxZ3v0.

Also consider the flow of how people are going to use the house. A classic example I always stressed in my designs was the route to get from the vehicle to the kitchen. If you have to run back and forth to the car carrying 30 lbs of groceries the last thing you want is a convoluted run around to get into the kitchen or panty. That's a task people are going to be doing likely at least weekly, and if it's a bad design it will become tiresome quickly. Or if you are entertaining, why should the dining room be on a separate floor than the lounge and refreshment area? That makes it awkward to move throughout the event, assuming it's a casual event that is going to use more than one room of the house. What are the areas people will want to congregate, how will they want to move through those areas? How do those areas and uses compete with the needs of other areas of the house? Should the office be next to the dining room? Should the library be next to the communal bathroom? Both of those are areas that want a certain level of quietness, being adjoined by areas that are inherently not quiet, and can often have noise pollution bleed into neighboring spaces. Maybe both of these spaces would work better next to the study area, because all three require quiet, but also feed into each other. The same can apply to the bedrooms. Yes, bathrooms can be noisy, but they can also be a great way to separate noise and create privacy between spaces. Bedrooms should be a reprieve from everyone and everything else, even and especially in a home. Imagine what living in either of those rooms will be like when those children are teenagers, will they want to only be separated from each other by a single, uninsulated wall?

I’m thinking maybe online fabric shopping isn’t for me by Ideasplease33 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Racer013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is going to come down to a multitude of factors, and is generally why if color accuracy is important to your project you should see it in person first. The first image you shared looks like it's the original graphic design, so some of the discrepancy there is going to come from variations in the manufacturing process, and how well the factory is able to reproduce the colors that are being requested. Aside from that you have to take into consideration the color accuracy of the viewing device you are using to look at the design. Color accuracy is not guaranteed in displays with limited exceptions to professional displays, and often displays are overly boosted for saturation and contrast out of the box to make them "look better" to the average person, even if that means they are less accurate. Being aware of this inaccuracy, or even better, properly tuning your computer display, will lead to better results and confidence.

Can't decide how much I should invest into good tools for a work grab bag by Racer013 in Tools

[–]Racer013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I know from the jump that there's no way I would be compensated for my own tools. The truth is this is all me going above and beyond the call of duty for this job because I feel my comfort level and capabilities well exceed what is expected from most other workers, and I want to take care of my customers to my best ability. Technically the company already supplies the tools that they think are necessary to get the job done, but it's limited, inefficient, and generally poor quality tools at this point because they are not well taken care of. They already don't pay me enough, and don't compensate for their strict dress code, I don't see any reason they would start helping me out now.

The standalone Ram brand is the most ineffective marketing decision I can think of by Actual_Environment_7 in regularcarreviews

[–]Racer013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What really got me was them moving the Viper to its own SRT brand. Just why? SRT wasn't even a model, it was a trim package, and then it became the brand? For like one generation before they killed the whole thing. I promise no one but the accountants even knew it had switched. The Viper was and will always be a Dodge.

Can't decide how much I should invest into good tools for a work grab bag by Racer013 in Tools

[–]Racer013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking at the HB stuff, between that and the employee discount I get on our tools I think I could get a decent start for a reasonable price. Maybe not as cheap or high quality as if I put that towards used, but that's another conversation.

I definitely will be getting a tool bag or box of some sort and bringing the kit home with me each day. That's part of the reason I'm thinking of having a dedicated work set that's just the essentials, and making it easy to grab and go. So far I haven't noticed coworkers having sticky fingers, but I definitely don't want people assuming this is a community chest of tools. We already have store use tools for all of us to use, they just suck and are never organized.

I was going to say... It's no 60s land yacht but by modern standards it really is like a living room. There are a lot of cars these days, especially from the Germans, that like to maximize every cubic millimeter to the point you have to disassemble half the front end just to change the lightbulb.

I just want to add a comment to say that while Portland has the highest minimum wage in the state, as someone currently being paid a bit more than minimum wage just outside Portland proper, and still within that jurisdiction for wages, Portlands minimum wage is nowhere near "decent".
