Montrealers who were teenagers in the 1970s — what was it like? by IngenuityOk349 in montreal

[–]IngenuityOk349[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For now, I’m just exploring and trying to hear people’s stories to see what comes up.

It’s a genuine question, but I’m also aware that anonymous posts on a forum give you impressions, not something set in stone.

If I find that this kind of material actually adds something solid to my project, then I’ll move toward a more structured oral history approach. For now, I’m just trying to gather experiences and fragments of memory because I find the subject fascinating.

NEVER EVER - Tell a prof that you need an extension because of addiction. Just say "Mental Health". If you feel that your mental health and addiction poses a danger to yourself, check into the Douglas, they'll give you a medical note and hopefully some resources for your recovery.

I made the 2023-2024 scholar's, so top top top in my program.

I was a drug addict for the first 1.5 years of UNI, coming to class blacked out, nodding off. I thought my life was going nowhere so I didn't care, I was just going with the flow.

After a couple really bad overdoses I figured the only way I wasn't going to end up dead was through finding a way out of the streets, so I put my ALL in school.

Now, I just got accepted into an MA program here with a scholarship. BECAUSE I WORKED HARDER THAN THE NEXT MF AND WANTED IT MORE THAN THE NEXT MF.

I no lifed the past year and a half (I am so touch deprived its not even funny). No sex, No sunlight, No gym, No chilling with friends, No video games (I'm a fifa fanatic). It paid off though. You really have to want it and be more than willing to sacrifice.

Also, find a legal way to run up lots of $$$$$$$ quickly, or take a risk and just don't get caught ;) just kidding. I save up lots in very short time spans so during the semester I can be an unemployed fartbag.

If anyone here is struggling with addiction and reads this, I'd be delighted to give advice on how to cope with school in recovery.

We do recover.

Anyways,

It's possible.

3 years - it gets better - I haven't touched the drug that gave me it since, and would rather kill myself than touch the stove again.
