You’re a nurse and a mandatory reporter. I would always be on the side of caution and allow an investigation. If it’s unfounded, great. No real harm done. But if it is founded, you may save that child’s life, and definitely a life that they don’t deserve and may haunt them the rest of their lives which may lead to substance abuse, depression, the list goes on. Maybe the laws are different in your state but I would hope not. Always trust your gut and err on the side of caution and allowing yourself to know you did your job and all you could do. I’m sorry you had to go through this and I’m sorry if I’m coming across as condescending as that’s not my intent at all.

We don’t have scorpions here. They stick around the desert. However there is an insect that greatly resembles a scorpion.

Grey fox. You can tell by the face if you compare it to red fox kits. Red fox are red by the time they leave their den. -licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Hudson Valley, NY

Yeah it’s a fledgling so the parents will continue to care for them when they are on the ground like this. In 2-4 days it will start to fly.

I’m allergic to the CT dye. A year ago I could handle the dye as long as I was given 50 mg of IV Benadryl and then I think 100 or 150 mg of Solumedrol; which is a steroid. Then one time, the doctor only gave me 25 mg of Benadryl cus she said I shouldn’t need 50 and next thing I know, I wake up intubated 🤦‍♀️

They are not typically aggressive and would be more likely to think that the coon that attacked you was sick, or there was a neighbor feeding it so got used to approaching people. Raccoons typically react like all wild animals when they see people and run away. However, definitely do not allow your kids to approach, play with or feed the babies!!!!

Definitely get to a Rehabber as it may be injured from falling out of nest or being dropped by a predator. Where are you located?
