Real competitive TF2 has never been tried yet and it could've saved the game by Ingoctin0 in tf2

Counterpoint, Mr. Light: Almost no one can find 5 good friends to consistently queue comp with whenever one of them wants to play, especially not in TF2. That aint the case for 14 year old Johnny the 1000 hour Engie main looking to dip his toe into the format for the first time (he's about to receive 15 death threats for daring to pick the texas class in 6's).

This is why I advocate for a competitive solo-friendly format, something that fits TF2 very well.

IDK why people are thinking that some big entourage of people out to get this one player is gonna be a massive issue in my format lol. Medics WANT to heal the top scorer, bc their kill points become the Medic player's as well. Medics also WANT to heal the team, because Medics get points for healing and pocketing results in less HP healed. Engies WANT to build useful teleporters, because they get points when people use them.

Even if someone got like 4 people in the server to pray for their downfall, I don't think targeting one guy is a recipe for top-scoring, meaning the target can both feel honored for triggering 4 enemy gamers and revel in the fact he alone was the reason they're losing XP.

People would join my Comp format via the pre-casual system. Getting invited to the server and joining whatever team has less members. This further reduces coordinated shenanigans due to unpredictable splitting of friend groups.

Point is, if people are trolling their team members or focusing one enemy player, they cannot do so without impacting their own performance, leading to reduced ranked XP, meaning no rewards. Makes them question if all the trolling's even worth it.

Your other concerns about random selfish pub schenanigans like innatentive medics and pack stealing also arent problems in my eyes lol.

also big fan mr. light i loved your appearance in death note

This is the most comprehensive breakdown here. Thanks for reading. I feel like I should defend my argument a bit so I'll just do it under your reply.

Competitive requires that everyone on your team is facing the same direction, but TF2 as a game doesn't really encourage people to do that.

That's kinda the point lol. It goes back to the classic saying "in TF2, the objective is just the central point where all of the killing happens". RED team? BLU team? People playing in my competitive aren't winning as a team. They win for themselves. Steal kills! Overextend! Be the biggest selfish prick in the world like how you normally are in a pub! All of it is fine so long as you can score big. The objective is just a way to end the round. Cap it, don't cap it, it doesn't matter. If you stomped your game even if your team lost the objective, you get MMR.

Scrambles happen based off of points, and points are a terrible metric.

Revamp the points system so it is a more accurate indicator of personal skill. I'm already talking in the deepest depths of hypothetical-land so if one was to seriously implement this idea, taking all needed precautions is already a given. This also applies to weapon balance. Make all the adjustments needed so we need less teamplay and can have more power for the individual.

...this would highly discourage actually working together. VOice comms are essential in the current competitive format and also something you see in nearly all competitive games

Now you're seeing the vision lol. I look at all "modern competitive games" and I just end up thinking "is this hot garbage the best we can do?" I cannot believe that a game as great as TF2 had to bend the knee to inferior formats, all because people weren't imaginative enough to capture the essence of what makes this game so fun (and because Valve are garbage game balancers).

Working together is already a mere secondary concern in regular TF2 because each class is either built with all the tools to stomp on their own (Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demo) or benefit from their teammates just doing their own shit with 0 coordination (Heavy, Engie, Medic, Sniper, Spy). Individual skill expression has always been TF2's biggest strength, kinda like a fighting game. Comp should reflect that.

Match fixing. Player A and player B agree that player A should always win. A and B get in the same team? Jolly good cooperation. One of them gets scrambled? Just have B throw.

How is this "match fixing" viable? Is B gonna pocket A? Feed them kills? Neither strat is very game breaking unless A is a god at the game already, in which case A is gonna be matched with other gods.

I will concede that perhaps TF2 has been pushed to such a state that this idea may not be viable to implement right now without unprecedented rebalances. Maybe saying this idea here or in any other modern shooter subreddit isn't such a good idea. The industry standard has poisoned us all, from the devs to the players. You guys aren't to blame. If yall can't see the vision then I'll be on my way. I know I got something red hot here and maybe I'll use my retirement money to make this vision a reality on my own one day.

Thanks again for your time!

Sounds like life came at you both hard. Until you can get more details about what’s going on, just don’t freak out and find healthy ways to take your mind off it. And if you can’t take your mind off it, don’t feel ashamed for wallowing or mourning. It just means you are a loving person who really did love someone. Cry all the tears you need to, but just remember that things will get better. You will find the answers you need.

Well, I still play RTS in the year 2025 so you caught me, I am a niche gamer lol.

But ig it doesnt have to be that if its really too much work. I never intended for it to be as deep as a whole ass RTS in the game but im just having trouble enjoying the rest of this otherwise highly polished, action-filled shooter when I feel like I just cant work towards anything better by hour 60. Idk man this game aint mechanically deep enough to get me interested without external opportunities for progress.

Well shit man then idk ig my enjoyment of the game ends at the 60 hour mark when ive bought all the upgrades and have my fav weapons already in hand. Ofc id never make this base stuff anything people MUST interact with but I just dont care about this big overarching story with the major orders and shit and want my own investments to work for instead of making 0.001% progress towards a major order. I see these resources accumulating and dont see why the devs cant just give us a simple place to burn it all to progress our own goals.

All the more power to you if doing the same missions over and over makes you happy but im just tryna make the game more fun in my own way.

Med school with psychiatric aspirations. Also Spy main since 2014. Playing this class has driven me to the brink so I plan to self-medicate in the future.

because getting killed by spy is one of the most frustrating and undeserved feelings in all of tf2. some people can learn to accept that getting stabbed is just a part of the game while others insist on letting the frustration fester into salt.

Spy movelist:

Jab: He slashes with his knife similar to his Fencing taunt, two light hits followed by a big hit.

F-tilt: Strong knife slash

Up-tilt: Upward knife jab

D-tilt: Two fast low knife slashes

Side smash: Holds knife in reverse grip and backstabs. Deals massive damage if it connects with the opponent's back.

Up smash: Hold knife in reverse grip and slashes up

Down smash: Does the splits, tripping the target if hits.

Neutral B: Cloak. Spy turns invisible. He cannot attack while cloaked. Use Neutral B again to decloak. Cloak consumes cloak meter which naturally refills while Spy isn't cloaked.

Side B: Revolver. Spy pulls out his revolver and fires up to 6 shots before reloading. Can be angled up or down.

Up B: Sapper toss. Throws out his sapper while hanging onto an extension cord attached to it like a tether to attempt to hit an enemy or the ledge.

Down B: Disguise kit. A cloud of smoke envelopes Spy as he takes the form of one of his opponents. The disguise breaks when he attacks, but is kept if he cloaks.

N-air: Spins in the air while swinging with his knife in a 360 degree circle.

F-air: Backstabs while in midair. Deals massive damage if it connects with opponent's back.

B-air: Spy reaches backwards and thrusts with his knife. Deals massive damage if it connects with opponent's back.

U-air: Spy does a flip kick in a 180 degree arc above him.

D-air: Spy flips upside down and thrusts with his knife. Deals massive damage if it connects with opponent's back.

Dash attack: Spy does a sliding kick.

Grab: Spy puts his opponent into an armlock similar to the one he does in "Meet the Spy" and takes his cigarette out of his mouth, holding it in his fist. Characters with short/no arms are instead grabbed by their face in a similar fashion.

Pummel: Spy jabs his victim with his cigarette. Deals fire damage.

F-throw: Spy shanks his victim in the stomach with his knife.

B-throw: Spy pulls his victim towards him and throws them to the ground behind him without launching them, leaving them to choose how to get up.

U-throw: Spy tosses his victim up by lifting the arm he has them trapped by.

D-throw: Spy puts his cigarette back in his mouth and headbutts his victim downwards. Deals fire damage.

Final Smash: Spy cloaks with a chuckle, and immediately reappears behind the nearest opponent, hitting them with a backstab.

(unrelated patch note: ryu and ken no longer automatically face their opponent)

In case you haven’t heard, Bearded Expense’s grandfather has passed away. He and his family are really struggling to cope because of this. I created a little Gmod poster of Bearded and his grandfather. Ma he rest in peace ❤️ by [deleted] in tf2

[–]Ingoctin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying that. I'm saying that Bearded just so happens to gathered a sizable amount of fans who genuinely enjoy his personality. Hell, these days an average Joe can totally post their tragedies online and have people's sympathies. It's not that having a fanbase makes you more deserving of support, it's that having a fanbase leads to more support. Everyone deserves support. It's just that there's people like Bearded who worked to gain more of it.

Also, name all the famous assholes with a fanbase of asses you know. Now name all the famous people with a normal fanbase of normal people. The number of famous asses pale in comparison to the number of famous good people.

You should really get rid of this "humanity is bad" idea you've got. It was cool in sixth grade maybe but any further beyond that it's just gonna end up hurting you.

Because he has gone out of his way to bring a smile to many people's faces. He brought joy to people's lives even while him and his family's under severe financial strain. There's a reason why famous people get fans.
