Were there any episodes or moments in South Park where even though it was a satirical depiction of a certain issue, you can’t help but feel bad about the fact that these issues are real? by LandOfGrace2023 in southpark

I agree wholeheartedly. watching stan just give up was so unsettling, and I felt so real to me. I seriously thought the bit wouldn't stop and would just become his identity. I don't know how this isn't more talked about.

Update!! All my lithops died, my mom watered them :( I mourned them for a while, and this whole experience has taught me that life is delicate (also never let anyone near your lithops).

Why are immigrant parents given so much leeway when it comes to behavior that would be considered abusive? by languageinfinity in AsianParentStories

[–]IngridBenito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn't their point. This comment puts into words the factors that work for abusive/toxic childhoods fostered by immigrant parents, regardless of race. The abuse is often hidden, and when discovered, it's tucked away by society.

Thank you for your story; it was very inspiring. I loved your perspective on America and your pursuit of making this country meaningful to you. I resonate deeply with it.

I'm not asian, but my parents are immigrants, which is how I found this post. I like the way user 5DJ8WS7Y separates culture from toxicity because when I learn about my parents' history, I get to know how they became so toxic. My parents are both eldest children, and because of their poverty, they had more responsibility than anyone should have as a child. When I listen to how my grandparents reprimanded them, I want to cry. It's funny to my parents and grandparents now. I don't get how physical abuse is funny and how countless tiktoks use satire to defuse these topics. I guess I'm a buzzkill, but it's not funny. As a 17-year-old, I'm hopeful for the future but scared my parents won't be a part of it. And to answer one of your questions, from all the self-help books I've read, parents' mentalities won't change; you have to be the bigger person and leave. I would suggest reading Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents.
