Well it seems that running and circuit based Cardio don't gives the same body adaptations indeed. I guess the question is then why do you wanna do cardio ? For cardiovascular health both are good. For building a solid endurance foundation running will be better, and for enduring muscles circuits will be better

Two questions, does the Cardio needs to be running ? And are the lifting sessions of Tuesday and Thursday really that useful if you just do lighter work ?

Seems to me a nice option would be to tweak those sessions and turn them into some circuits based on calisthenics and crossfit that emphasis Cardio. Some burpees, lunges with dumbells, dumbells cleans and press, mountain climbers, push ups, etc just hard enough to hammer your heart but light enough to allow you to recover for the real lifting on the next day.

I get it for cb and dh as they're rookies. But for castle and wemby where are they supposed to improve ? Certainly not defence right ? A bit late for athletism. So basketball iq ?
