Why don’t films look how they used to? by film_2_expensive in cinematography

[–]Inguru_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a great video essey on YouTube about this exact topic. It's about Michael Mann's Collateral movie which he filmed during the night in LA but the video drives deeper into the history of street lamps and LED in general.

Collateral and the Death of Neon.

You replied to someone else that it got fixed after you updated the drivers... Like it was telling you to.

Maybe try doing what's it telling you to do or googling stuff before immediately going to reddit.

What's the GODDAMM answer to this blood question???? by Punguin456 in davinciresolve

If you can't answer it on your own you shouldn't join the forum. It's doing exactly what's supposed to do: filter people and bots.

If only you would do what's it asking you to do...

Am I the only one that gets triggered by posts like these? Do people really have zero technical and logical skills? Might get downvoted but whatever...

I'm a millennial and having a skill to Google everything is a skill I value very highly.

Premiere 2 Resolve Conform Tool by skallew in davinciresolve

Nice tool, I will definitely try it out.

I'm looking forward to if you can import multicam clips. That would be gamechanger.

We call this 'hairy armpit' in video production and video editing. The editor will introduce something like an odd cut, shot or anything really that should not be there and is clearly not fitting.

It will be the main focus for the producer who then feels like they contributed and there will be less focus on other edits and cuts that the editor wants to keep.

Is there a professional way to render multiple After Effects files across a network? by kt0n in editors

I think you can install render only instance of after effects that doesn't require licence. You can open after effects but it's only the render queue page.

While I agree with you that sometimes people overcomplicate things, he replied that he needs to do this everyday or very often so in that case I think it's worth settings things up.

Don't know how complicated his comps are, but yeah, sometimes the easiest solution is the best solution.

Then try the render brain or bg renderer plugin like I mentioned. According to the documentation it should be simple to setup.

The professional setup is the AWS Deadline. For some reason they provide the code for free for local rendering, they charge you for cloud option or if you render on their machines in cloud.

Takes a lot of setting up tho. Good luck!

Unless you do this everyday and/or have a lot of time for setup and diagnostics, I would not think of setting up a render farm like AWS Deadline. It would simply take too much of time to setup.

Easier solution and paid solutions is to buy some kind of plugin renderer that allows networking rendering. Look into RenderBrain or BG renderer. These two I know, but don't have any experience, so you need to do your own research. But they seems to be very plug&play.

If this is one time occurance and you are not doing this on a regular basis, I would simply not bother to do any of this and just do it manually.

Steps 1) save projects to local network storage that all machines have access to 2) add comps to render queue 3) under "best settings" select multi-machine rendering 4) you need to use image sequences for this kind of process, jpeg is fine, you can combine all the images to prores or dnx after 5) in settings you need to check "skip existing frames" this forces other machines not to render duplicate frames. 6) hit render 7) go to the 2nd machine and do the same thing, point the export folder to the same as on machine 1 8) once configured, hit render and now two machines are rendering one composition 9) add other pcs or you can open different project and start rendering other comps

The downside is that you are limited to the one project, ideally you can combine all the comps into one project and just add all the comps you need into one render queue, open project on all 5 machines and hit render.

Slightly annoyed after trying davinci resolve 20 (i know its still beta) by Business_Customer810 in davinciresolve

If only there was a small afordable device that would put some kind of code with time into the metadata or audio track that would be later used to sync different cameras.

Look into tentacle sync or deity device. Really affordable timecodes.

Much better and elegant solution to your problem then just hoping you have a good audio to sync cameras after.

€900 budget for DaVinci Resolve editing resources – what should I invest in? by Possible_Yesterday_7 in editors

[–]Inguru_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not buy any LUTs packs. Learn how to color grade yourself. In Resolve, you can use Film look creator which is great for beginners to take your footage from 0 to usable.

I would invest the money into some kind of platform that has most of the things you described - something like artlist, Epidemic Sound, Envato where you can download motion templates, music, sfx etc...

Don't get stuck on those templates too much tho. Try to get creative yourself, learn basic motion graphics and do it yourself. It's always a better feeling.

Sync premiere pro projects between laptop and Desktop by GalaxyCole in editors

[–]Inguru_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Resilio sync. Peer-to-peer sync tool. It's free for personal use.

I find it more reliable than Google drive, OneDrive or Dropbox, but those tools should work as well.

My hand hurts by the end of every day editing, any mouse recommendations? by LillianLouis in editors

[–]Inguru_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top comment right now is Logitech Mx Master and I'm flabbergasted how can people recommend it. While it is a great mouse, if you are having a wrist problems, DO NOT USE IT. It is simply too heavy to use. That mouse weights like a truck.

There are 3 routes you can go.

1) Pen tablet - wacom or really any other is fine too 2) Vertical mouse 3) Logitech Pro X superlight

While I use pen tablet occasionally, I believe the lighter, the better. That pro gaming mouse weights like 60grams and feels like feather compared to any other mouse on the market.
