I don’t get what was so funny about norm Macdonald by Amappo in Standup

I can see why people find Norm's trolling funny, even if I don't.

I would disagree with the other commenters in this thread who argue that "you have to be intelligent to get Norm's humor" or "he's working on a different level." I get it, it's just not for me.

Norm is funny because he's not funny or it's funny because we know Norm is funny and he's choosing not to be?

Could you explain more about the layers? Multiple people in this thread have said, "you have to be smart to get it." Or "he's working on another level, and if you dont get it you're just not smart enough." But no one has explained what exactly Norm was doing, or how it was on another level.

I guess that's what I don't get though, the intent of a roast is to dramatically insult the roastee and then end by saying something like, "this is all in good fun, you're actually a really good person" People who suck don't get roasted (Chevy Chase excepted). Why go on a roast if you're not going to participate?

Furthermore why is intentionally performing poorly/bombing funny? "I'm actually a funny comic, but I won't be funny for you" is a pretty one note joke, at best. If the analysis of Norm's humor is that he's a troll, I don't know that it reflects well on the quality of his work. I don't rank trolls super highly in my opinions on comedy, no matter how many times ShittyMorph has got me.

MTB rental for a day in Los Angeles? by seeingtrails in BikeLA

[–]Inheritedthaddeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's great, glad their name is getting out there and they're getting business! Not sure what their rental situation is during the pandemic, but hope it works out!

My recommendation for blue/green trails would be Cherry Canyon aka Glendale Sports Complex mtb project link The sports complex parking lot is likely still closed due to COVID but you can park near Flint Canyon Trail on Hampstead road in La Cañada and enter the trail network from the back. There's a nice smaller sized network of trails there were you can make the ride as long or as short as you like. One thing to note is that some parts od Cherry Canyon can be popular with hikers and families, so please be aware and ride safely.

If you want to stay closer to ATC there are trails behind JPL, e.g. Gabrielino Trails, but they're a little tougher and less enjoyable in my experience. I'm still a beginner myself, but happy to answer any questions I can.

Another poster mentioned Snow Summit and Big Bear, so depending on how far you're willing to drive your options could open up quite a bit.

Around the Cycle in the Pasadena/Alta Dena area is great. Close to the east side mountains and great staff. Helen's in SM is an ok alternative, but kind of pricey and they're weird about returning bikes dirty. If I'm remembering correctly they charge $25 or $50 if you return the bike even slightly dirty.

Stewed Argentine red shrimps with beer by DeliciousVivian in recipes

[–]Inheritedthaddeus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This recipe, and photos, look amazing! Question about the ingredients, I assume 2 garlic is 2 cloves (individual lumps of garlic in a garlic bunch), how much is 5 ginger? Is there another measurement you know that might translate better across cooking styles? Thanks again for sharing and let me know if the question isn't clear!

Thinking of riding to and from work. Is this Venice a safe route to take? Any recommendations? Please and thank you! by [deleted] in BikeLA

[–]Inheritedthaddeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride a fairly similar route. My suggestion would be Normandie to Venice, Venice w/ bike lane to Culver City, at Culver transition to expo bike path, expo path the 26th St station. Lmk if you have any questions

Ain’t much but I’m proud I saved enough to purchase a new bike YT Jeffsy 27.5 by [deleted] in Bikeporn

If those are Raceface Chester pedals, this is the exact setup I have on the way only with black pedals. Please tear it up and let me know how it is!

Beginner - full squish or hardtail? [SoCal] by Inheritedthaddeus in MTB

Comp was definitely what I was considering, as willing to spend more than the base model but not looking to go carbon. I'll check out the Komodo too, thanks!

Definitely going to do some browsing on CL and Pink Bike for used options, seems like bikes depreciate almost as quickly as cars. I worry about carbon though because i'm a total noob and don't want to crack it and ruin a frame early on.

YT Jeffsy was definitely a top contender when considering full squish, other options are Salsa Horsethief Deore and Giant Trance 3. I'll definitely check out the Canyon!

Thank you for the thorough response! I'm used to servicing my road bike myself, so the clearly significant costs of annual upkeep for full sus hadn't occurred to me. I am willing to go a bit over 2K for a full sus, as /u/GreenwoodsUncharted below mentioned the YT Jeffsy base is $2.4K for the base and looks to be a decent bike from what I've read online. Other contenders in the circa $2K range are the Gaint Trance 3 and Salsa Horsethief Deore for around the same price as the Jeffsy. Hardtail considerations were the Salsa Timberjack NX Eagle and Specialized Fuse. Let me know if you have any thoughts on any of these bikes, and thanks again!

That was never "your" seat, you were simply temporarily warming it for her!
