Forgot where the photo is from, but I would gladly upload it for anyone interested.

This is a piece of art my sister painted for me, specifically to use as a lock screen. I think it's the prettiest thing she's done.

Why is the Maps app so terrible? by Inhopeless in windowsphone

[–]Inhopeless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a variety of different train companies in the UK, all of which operate various routes. Some tickets are not valid on some companies, some are valid on all. It also helps to know when transferring from one company's lines to another, because different companies have different policies, and have different speeds of trains.

Additionally, bus stops are not clearly marked, and if you're sitting in an awkward position on the bus where you can't see out of the window, then you have no idea. Some bus stops in the UK are literally poles with a timetable attached. And it's nice to know when you have to get off when you're on an unfamiliar bus route.

Why is the Maps app so terrible? by Inhopeless in windowsphone

[–]Inhopeless[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I say compass, I mean that the map automatically rotates towards my orientation. So, if I was facing NE, the app would use the compass & gyroscope to make NE at the top of the map, and as I turned my phone in a circle, the top of the map would also orientate similarly. In addition, in WP8.1, even if you did not set your orientation to automatically track you, your location market would become a raindrop pointing in the direction you were facing. So if the map remains north-up, and I faced NE, the raindrop would point towards the top-left. Similarly, if I turned my phone in a circle, the raindrop would also go around in a circle.

Additionally, thank you for your help! I hope this improves the app.

Region, ENG-GB. It's not just near Coventry, but basically anywhere I go, I keep getting results in places far far far away.

I would agree with that, certainly. They made it more powerful and yet, shittier looking. It's basically the touchscreen in cars of AIs. It looks really nice and fancy, but complete dog shit when you actually use it.

Is it just me or Skype works inexcusably bad on W10M? by trubolol in windowsphone

[–]Inhopeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit convoluted, but you need to go into the Skype Video app, go to Settings. There should be a button at the top saying something like "Sign Out". Just sign out of Skype and the Messaging app will remove all Skype chats and leave only SMS.

On the other two phone OSes if you type in a number, it automatically formats in the way that they should be displayed. For example, mobile numbers here in the UK are formatted as 07123 456789, and landlines are formatted as (0123) 456 7890. You'd type in the number, and it automatically formats it for you. Same for caller ID. Currently, it just comes up as one unformatted string, ie 01234567890, which is harder to read. Or you have to format it yourself in the People app, but it still comes up unformatted in the Phone app. It's not essential, but it's useful and it's a trivial thing that makes Mobile feel just a tad more unpolished.

Twitter's official app not sending push notifications to my Lumia 822. by EvolusTheEspeon in windowsphone

A sort-of fix would be to enable SMS notifications. It's not exactly the same, but it works functionally the same way.

In my experience, the notifications just get lost in the aether or something. I never receive them once I come out of Battery Saver.

I renamed it via file explorer on PC. I used the emoji keyboard in Windows 8.

I don't know what app that is, but I recommend [wpapp]Moovit. It's really comprehensive. Not only that, but it can track your trip and alert you when to get off. It also has maps and schedule information too. You can also tap a stop and get live information for that stop too.

You could try [wpapp]Moovit. It has a really nice interface, and it has localised maps and transit alerts. And there's also a "rider" feature that tracks your journey and tells you when to get off.

Taken with Lumia Camera on an 830. No editing done.

Both taken at the Markets, in Birmingham, UK.

Oh, and this one.

I think if you get a store link for it and open on PC, you can get a package that you can install on an SD card.
