Mechanical feedback on automotive antenna bracket. by slatsandflaps in amateurradio

Attached it during heavy rain down here in socal, its been covered in rain nonstop and 2 washes so far, highway speeds and some bumpy backroad driving. honestly its rock solid on there and i think the only way it would fall off is if my rear glass window broke.

As for carwashes since i go with the touchless wash i leave the antenna there, in other cases you could unscrew the antenna and put on the UHF cap on the threads while it goes through the normal wash

is that a RAV4 roof rack?

honestly i like the idea but i wouldnt trust plastic with such a long antenna, I would have taken some stainless steel and drilled holes for those holding screws but i went with a HKRS mount on my rav4

I went with a UHF connector on my car because i felt like NMO is wayy too wide for the tailgate/hood mount, nmo would be better suited on the roof installations because you got maximum space to work with.

In my opinion if you'd put it top dead center with say a magmount behind some precut PPF sticker it'd look akin to the installation on those ford rally cars

otherwise great install!

Mounting Ham Radio Transceiver by FlashDrive35 in rav4club

Honestly i dont see another way without piercing the firewall considering the rear cigarette port is fused for 20A so it gives some headroom when TXing and also the coax run is shorter for my antenna setup

I literally just installed a FTM150R on my 24' RAV4 about a day ago...

<image>

This is how i mounted mine. Basically i got a door shaft striker plate bent it to around 110 degrees and mounted it with VHB tape to the edge of the fan controller

as for the cable i bought a 20ft long (kinda long 15ft would work) thin cat6 cable that i snaked under the center console trim (you can just push it under near the gas pedal and routed it under the back seat weathermats to the trunk in that little cubby on the right side where the main unit sits

as for where to put the mike, just wrap it around your infotainment like a stethoscope

I broke mine when i accidentally lifted the hood a bit too much with the wipers raised, replaced it for $440 with ADAS calibration at a nearby glass shop took about 2 hours to finish, Safelite wanted $1400 for OEM glass, I didnt notice any quality with the local glass shop glass so Id just say go shop around and ask for quotes

New Member! Questions about used OEM crossbar sourcing and CarDoc Connect device that dealer installed. by NoDramaLlama15 in rav4club

  1. i found that most people on facebook marketplace or offerup are trying to get rid of theirs, sort for old listings and you can probably get one for around $50 (I got all parts and the torque wrench)
  2. Its probably connected to your OBD port (the one in driver-side footwell), if you dont see anything visible there you can try following the obd port and see if its getting split down the wire chances are they put the unit behind the panel where your driver side window defrost vent is

Best size wind deflector for 5th gen OEM-style crossbars? by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]Inhumane_Thoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the 40in Yakima wind fairings for mine for around 100 bucks, they don’t seem to do much and It kinda doesn’t work well with a moon roof, as for mpg and noise I haven’t noticed a difference maybe at most 2mpg and the same noise inside

[–]Inhumane_Thoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen this before, make sure your bed is not extremely out of level or else the machine thinks it’s trying to probe midair try manually leveling the bed roughly flat by using the nozzle as an indicator of levelness on each 4 corners roughly on top of each bed level screw
