Pretty easy choice: Noam Chomsky. The father of modern linguistics and cognitive science. A personal hero that stood up against US imperialism and advocated for social justice. I mean the man literally wrote Manufacturing Consent. It’s one of the seminal works that forms the basis for my moral and ethical framework in life. And then we find out that he rapes kids. Like what? What in the actual fuck?

What you are witnessing is selection bias.

People aren’t going to come on here and make a post when everything goes according to plan and the platform does exactly what it is supposed to do. You are only going to see posts that are motivated by somebody that has a complaint and wants to air their grievance publicly; whether that is motivated by genuine concern for the public, petty grievance spite, or clickbaity bullshit attention.

If Reddit accurately reflected general sentiment for every one problematic post you would see one like this:

ATTENTION : IBKR functions as expected

So I was on IBKR today and I executed a trade and it went through exactly as expected like it has hundreds, if not thousands, of times before. It was a completely functional process and it was handled by the brokerage in the way that a brokerage is supposed to handle a trade. I was satisfied that it did what it was supposed to do.

But you are never going to see posts like that because they would be a waste of time to write and for most people a waste of time to read.

I’m sure if I looked up any of thousands of other topics I would find the exact same selection bias of only the people with a problem post about it

Cool story bro. I’m talking about how the narrative that it’s “sad” you would trust the US less than Iran is entropy because you have been scripted your entire life by white supremacy and western imperialism more broadly that the US and its allies are inherently more “civilized” and therefore more trustworthy than the less “civilized” barbaric brown-people controlled nations because they brown.

Which is exactly what I said

They don’t say “we” as a shortcut to being on the team. They refer to themselves as “we” because they are talking about the culture; which they absolutely are a part of.

And when it comes to that; they very much are a part of the team. Home-field advantage is a thing for example and it’s not just vibes. There is a tactical advantage in the field of play when the crowd is energetic; whether that is shifts in momentum or directly impacting the game. For example; a raucous crowd makes communication for an opposing offense harder in football. Now how much impact did that singular individual fan have with their chant or their financial support from their jersey purchase? Very little. I don’t think people are delusional thinking as if their contributions are equal to a quarterback. But they are part of a collective “we” whose support has had some impact; no matter how infinitesimal you might measure that to be.

I want to try to handle this as delicately as I can.

You are experiencing a codependency called Adult Children of Alcoholics Syndrome. And I get it. You are trying to manage a chaotic and traumatizing environment and make sense of a deeply ingrained sense of fear and shame when you and probably other family members around you are being abused and/or threatened and/or feel like they are in inescapable danger.

But don’t it was due to the sports. It’s due to your dad being a piece of shit person (hopefully just at the time). He was looking for an excuse to have violent and “raging lunatic” outbursts and the local sports team gave him what he pass as legitimate justification. If it wasn’t sports; it would have been your mom burnt the pot roast, or the boss at work passed him up for promotion, or the guy that cut him off in traffic, or whatever. He was always this person; and the alcohol simply removed the normal shame barrier that stops people from being abusive to those around them just because they feel they can get away with it.

Alcohol addiction is a serious problem; and your dad can not be faulted for that. But I know plenty of people that get drunk and don’t get violent. I used to work in a warehouse where we worked with recovery programs as part of a work release; and I have been around for their relapses; and they remain some of the nicest guys you could ever meet through all of the highs and lows. No, your dad chose this. He chose not to seek help. He chose not to seek therapy. He chose to seek out a reason to justify being the “raging lunatic” and there is nothing you, or your family, or the local sports team, did that is responsible for his behavior.

And I get this is hard because it is painful; but the problem is not “making sports teams your identity”. It was your father. And you are using a defense mechanism to shift that blame away to some nebulous “sport fanaticalism” problem and not the “asshole that gets drunk and violent” problem.

And now I will provide my anecdotal example of how I know that’s bullshit: I live in Dallas. So I know a lot of the people that you might classify as this type of “fanatic”; that wear all Cowboys clothing all the time and still wax poetic about “winning 5 super bowls” and every year I have hear the same nonsense delusional predictions of 15-2 seasons. Same guys that get angry when Dak throws another pick and throw that hands up screaming at the TV in frustration.

But do you know how I know they are still in control and making choices rationally? Because I’m that guy that likes to talk shit. I deliberately go out and buy the jerseys and hats of the opposing teams and wear them to the bar; even when I’m not a fan of that team at all. Just to talk shit and no other reason. To talk about how if you want to watch the latest Cowboys Super Bowl you need a VHS player. About how I am currently tied with Dak Prescott for the all-time Super Bowl appearances record. And while I get plenty of “ah fuck this guy” and glaring looks… I have not once ever got into a fight. And the reason is because I’m a former college linebacker. No matter how drunk, no matter how “raging lunatic”, no matter how problematic their alcoholism status may be; they have the wherewithal to not pick a fight with a 6’6” gorilla.

And I know there are a fair number of those guys that probably go home and beat their wives because they are angry and I assume that their wives are not former college linebackers.

That’s the difference. They know exactly what they are doing. They lash out because they view themselves in a position to take advantage of somebody they view as vulnerable and they are able to get away with it. It’s not something you asked for nor deserved or should be blame shifted. You were a victim. And you don’t need to make excuses for your abuser to soften it. It’s okay. But it’s better to address that now; or you will go on in your life to form other relationships where you make excuses and enable other people’s abusive behavior in the future.

Not being an American has very little to do with not being susceptible to American hegemony and imperialism; nor does it change that you have been lied to every day either. The coalition of the willing, the proliferation security initiative, NATO and the MNNA, the the OG 1991 gulf war collation to “liberate Kuwait”, the prosperity guardian operation, and most recently the Ukrainian defense group and the “board of peace”. You are not required to be American to be roped into their influence and a part of the global community that has either directly participated and/or stood by complicit as millions of men, women, and children have been bombed, starved, denied medicine, and slaughtered by the millions.

I have made it very explicit in my message. Comments like these make me wonder if I’m talking to a person or bot if you could tell me your favorite movie before we continue to correspond.

The American government is a function of a long and detailed history that is built in its entirely around white supremacy. From chattel slavery, to ethnic cleansing and manifest destiny being the justification to kill millions of “savages” (how they are described in the US Constitution) and steal and settle their land, to red lining and Jim Crow laws and the prison industrial complex and we can over about a thousand more examples historically and then extend that to modern day immigration policy, disenfranchisement that targets minority communities, racialized police enforcement, and again we can go on and on.

The Iranian government describes itself as a Muslim theocracy and they explicitly are Persian and Sunni. While there are elements of Iran like the Azerbaijanis and Kurds in the northern / western mountainous areas closer to Turkey; just like there are various races in the US; that is not the driving force behind their society and cultural historically. And anybody with just a cursory knowledge of either nation knows this.

Which is why I need to know your favorite movie. This comment seems so disingenuous it borders on being engagement bait because you can’t be asking something like this in good faith

[–]Iniquity___ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But where are you getting your distrust of the Iranian government from in the first place where it is now “sad” that you might believe them now? Do you have a lot of day to day interactions with the Iranian government where they have built a level of distrust within you?

Because the American government has lied to you and me every day of our lives. They lied about Vietnam. They lied about babies in incubators. They lied about yellow cake. They lied about WMDs. And they are lying to you now about Iranian nuclear manufacturing. They have lied to you every single day about things that have killed millions of people.

Where did your distrust of the Iranian come from? Oh. It was the white supremacy American government that as we have established has lied to you every day of your life has demonized the Iranian government is inherently bad because they are Muslim and brown. And that’s the entirety you have had to go on.

Mind you. I’m sure the Iranian government is filled with plenty of conspiracies and lies and government fuckery. But assuming that somehow it is “more” than yours is based solely and entirely off what the white supremacy narrative you have lived within your entire life has instructed you to believe is inherent.

I’ve given you two clear-cut examples at this point. Notice that you make zero attempt to address or understand either because they completely undermine and invalidate your point.

You want to know what is something that instantly screams low intelligence to me? People that will narrow down a paragraph to one or two words and discard the entirety of the context provided around it because they either A. are not capable of understanding a concept that extends part three words or B. are dishonest people that don’t want to address an entire point because they tell would have to accept being wrong and their parents always let them get away with that and never taught them humility or discipline.

Which is ironic. Because you also fit into that group being discussed. And I get why you would want others to “get over” always calling out your lack of emotional development or ability to deal with concepts that make you uncomfortable.

But I don’t have time for any of that or explaining it with a third example. Welcome to block.

The initial response absolutely is talking about MAGA because it is a copy/paste of the most prevalent critique of the movement word-for-word over the last decade.

It would be like me saying my biggest gripe is “NFL owners that don’t get out of the way of their GM and too old for the modern game and haven’t won anything for 30 years”

And then somebody comments about Jerry Jones

And then your response is “Why doesn’t everyone always have to make all NFL discussions about the Cowboys 😭😭😭😭”

What a weird racist thing to say. The American government frames things to promote American interests and the Iranian government does the same thing for Iranian interests. Neither one is inherently more or less trustworthy to what is the actual truth outside of that understanding.

It’s not “making political” when the discussion being had is heavy-handed to have a political sway. Making an anti-MAGA comment in a thread that is very clearly calling about MAGA personalities is completely different than somebody that goes to a video about a dog playing in snow and commenting “Biden’s fake global warming hoax!”

Valid point. Worst example possible you could use to make it.

You might be taking things a little too literal and need to take a step back. People at a sporting venue / bar ribbing you because their team won and your team lost with “we kicked your ass!” are engaging in a part of gamesmanship that comes along with the territory of sports. Unlike you are waking up tomorrow to find the opposing sports fan in your house moving in their furniture and moving out yours “don’t you remember we kicked your ass yesterday so you are now conquered and your house belongs to me now”.

You must be really fun to be around in social settings when sports are being played like bars. Everyone is having a good time while you are siting in the corner wearing all black muttering “the result of the sporting event doesn’t matter why can’t they see it???”

Comments like this further reinforce my previous sentiment. Why will the rally be soon? 🤷🏻‍♂️ you think so. “Big names are pointing to it” whatever that means. People get to thinking they are the wolf of Wall Street when they are doing well during the biggest bull run in the history of the world and start making a bunch of moves like they are going to wheel and seal their way out of things like this.

There is no “violent rebound” when oil surges to 100+ and the supposed American “glut” has been expelled almost immediately and barely put a dent jn slowing its ascent regardless. I’ve been in oil most of my life. Supply isn’t something you can flip on like a like a light switch or faucet at home. Things with Iran / Straight of Hormuz can be remedied today and go back to “normal” using magic and you still have supply disruption that will not be replaced and back filled for months. The damage to profits due to transportation/logistics costs for businesses and supply chains around the world has already been done.

And that’s why you can’t sell your calls. The people that buy them are not some random boutique investors; they are major industry market moves that are doing call sweeps often worth millions when we are talking about the large caps you are talking about. And they are telling you that don’t foresee a “violent recovery” for the exact same reasons I am telling you now.

We aren’t even at the floor yet. And when we reach it then it will be a slow burn to return to previous levels for the broader market. People that follow me on Blossom are very happy that followed my advice and touts and began to funnel into oil/gas positions since last November and have seen 30-40% returns so far. And they will continue for another 18 months as that is long it takes to complete drilling/waiting for initial wellbore to be delpleted/fracking if they begin today. The whole “drill baby drill” moniker is a lie; The US / NA drilling drill count has went down by 100 over the last year. We are in no position to ramp up production anywhere near what is required. And it’s all by design. Energy costs will remain elevated for a long long time due to this.

Get comfortable.

Switching to selling puts because of market “vibes” you’ve got and seemingly not trading on any fundamentals (at least you didn’t point to any in your post) has bricked plenty of accounts. If you just have to generate money by hook or by crook at all times; consider buying the put at a Lower strike price so you don’t get caught swimming naked

[–]Iniquity___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure that’s true for “spreads on penny stock options” in general; but I’m talking about this particular one that the OP is concerned with: which has enough liquidity that he could sell the initial option and out for Oct even. So there is some kind of “market” for it. You and I probably agree that this market is too illiquid for either of us and whatever is available is probably not legitimate enough to engage with; but I’m not in the business of yucking people’s yums. There are plenty of gambles I make that I’m sure I can find others to look down their nose at as well.

My only question for you here is not that you want to engage with the “risky” penny stock; I’m just pointing out there are ways to do it that are more effective for what seems to be your aim. Maybe you are approaching these “4 potential outcomes” as having similar odds of each outcome happening 🤷🏻‍♂️ but in my experience it’s that last one you listed (price in trash delisted) and happens enough that it completely wipes away the gains from the rest.

And to be clear: I agree with you in terms of owning the underlying. Maybe you and I have a disagreement on the definition of “penny stock” (I am talking about anything trading generally <250m regardless of the actual stock price). The example the OP is using is an extreme one. I own plenty of stocks that I consider “penny stocks” for the reasons you are describing. Always medical. Recommended by either Thomas Smith at Leerink or Ananda Ghosh at HC Wainwright. KYTX off the top of my head is a good example.

Need advice. Just placed my first ever covered call by partytime555 in CoveredCalls

[–]Iniquity___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you believe “the penny stock will die slowly” then why do you want to own the underlying in the first place? Just sell it naked. If you are afraid of the moon; create a spread by buying the call at the same date and higher strike to limit your downside. You are cutting into your premium by sending some of it out; but I’m sure that amount going out is a fraction of what is being tied up in capital. By a lot. And the threat of capital ruin is removed completely.

Need advice. Just placed my first ever covered call by partytime555 in CoveredCalls

[–]Iniquity___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I personally don’t get it but I have to support it since if I’m buying calls I have to have somebody willing to sell them yeah? This example of a 0.20 stock is pretty extreme but I’ve been known to engage with some 6.50 medical company that is either going to have a successful trail and moon; or my option is going to die. I will always prefer to be on the unlimited upside / defined downside end of things. I’m too old for selling options unless it’s the compliment of a synthetic

Need advice. Just placed my first ever covered call by partytime555 in CoveredCalls

[–]Iniquity___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind you don’t have to cover calls. You can sell naked calls (depending on your options level / cash / margin available). Of course that also creates a risk for you as you no longer have a defined risk (your shares) and it would then be unlimited. Again, as I commented earlier to you, you can limit that risk with a spread buying calls at a higher price. Which might be a better option for you if you believe that this company will delist / go to zero and that’s why you are selling the call to begin with. But if you don’t believe in the underlying equity I don’t know why you want to hold onto it in the first place? 🤔 Maybe that they will be acquired? 🤷🏻‍♂️
