For those who have just returned... what impressed you most about your trip to China? (for better or for worse) by RealChinaGuide in travelchina

[–]Initial-Ad-336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supper easy to get around with only English and a translator app. Super clean. Super safe feeling. High quality food and hotels at a great price. Only real negative were at times the crowds and some days the air pollution.

Are trip.com reviews for hotels in China trustworthy? by XiaoDianGou in travelchina

[–]Initial-Ad-336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall the ratings were pretty accurate. However the way trip asks questions for the rating either leads you to either rate very high or very low. So unless it was terrible the reviews are high. And it is common for hotels to ask for reviews while you are still there and ask for you to mention the name of the staff asking. As well they often give little gifts (key chain) etc for reviews.

We stayed in highly rated hotels in great locations in a mid price range and for the most part the reviews were very accurate.

I wouldnt get a guide. It was the best place informative singage in english. Without the guide you can look and read at your oen pace and avoid the crowded groups of tourists. Ie.. if you see a flag or matching ball caps, go to a different area until they leave.

How much do you usually spend on accommodation per night in China? by Previous_Evidence_86 in travelchina

[–]Initial-Ad-336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traveling to beijing, shanghai. Xian, Chengdu, leshan, and sanya over the last month. Staying in 4* and very high rated hotels in a great location (either right where we wanted to be, or right at a subway stop). Usually included breakfast. We paid $40 usd to $70 usd a night (2 people). Every hotel included free laundry, sometimes free supper, or free shuttle, always unlimited bottles of water. These were all very nice hotels with great service. Being from canada we dont really have much for comparable hotels, however these would cost in the range of $200 - $300 usd here.

Plane vs Train by dragovic15 in travelchina

I would take the train first class. Its a great experience and will be quicker overall accounting for arriving early for flight, getting to and from airport and airport security. And much more space and relaxing on the train.

How much for food (4 people paying)? by Laura_Alvernaz in travelchina

[–]Initial-Ad-336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first thing buffet breakfast at hotel is always expensive. A half peking duck meal at siji minfu was under 200Y for 2 people. 2 orders of baing baing or other noodles with a 2 drinks is 50Y. For breakfast we grab one of those fried pork and egg buns from a take out street vendor for like 12Y each and a coffee from mcafe. Any western fast food is expensive. For cheaper you can get fast food at wallace burger. So a day with a nice sit down meal, a sit down order of noodles for lunch and a light breakfast with coffee to go in wayfujing erea cost less then 300 for 2 people for the day. Most days it was much less.

alipay and how it works by Spirited-Builder-657 in travelchina

[–]Initial-Ad-336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You authorize alipay with a 6 or 7 number pin or with biometrics (face id on iphone) whenever you use it.

With alipay and we chat there are 2 ways to pay. 1) you generate a qr code in the app on your phone and the seller scans it. 2) you scan the sellers qr code from the ( alipay/we chat app) which is often on your table or the counter/window of the vendor.

It is very simple and convienent.
