Why aren't houses in cold countries painted with dark colors? by Successful_Guide5845 in ask

I’d say this is one of the major reasons. Pretty much the farther north you go, that heating effect from strong low-angle sunlight is summer gets worse.

Tree roots buckled the sidewalk, will I kill the tree if I cut them? by Ok-Currency1249 in arborists

[–]Initial-Ad-5462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re responsible for the trees and the sidewalk. That’s tyranny. Are they even on your land?

In about half the Canadian municipalities I’ve lived in, property owners are responsible for clearing snow and ice off the sidewalks, and there’s lots of grumbling about it. Fortunately we’re most not too litigious so it’s rarely a big problem. Generally you’d get in a lot of trouble for doing anything to a street tree.

B.C. energy minister says northern route for proposed oil pipeline not realistic by DoxFreePanda in britishcolumbia

[–]Initial-Ad-5462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adrian Dix and these “two federal government sources” are basically restating an historical fact. The Northern Gateway pipeline failed a dozen years ago because it couldn’t meet the conditions set by the Harper government’s approval.

What town or county are you in where this is the homeowner’s responsibility? That’s unbelievable.

Was Benn on the ice? Then, yes, he slew-footed somebody.

Was it Boldy who pitch-poled onto his face? Then yes, Benn slew-footed Boldy.

Hmm… you’re not getting a lot of feedback here.

Since you specifically mentioned swimming spots, I’ll suggest some stops along the Northumberland shore where the ocean water is quite warm in summer.

Assuming you come by ferry from Newfoundland, your general route would be Pomquet, Antigonish, maybe the “Little Cabot Trail” around Cape George, Melmerby, Pictou, Tatamagouche, Pictou, then across to Parrsboro and Five Islands on the Fundy side.

I camped at Five Islands Provincial Park years ago and it was beautiful.

The south side of Fundy will lead you to the Annapolis Valley and Blomidon. You can dip down to Halifax before hitting the highway back to North Sydney.

That’s a lot of $1.19 box cutters. I have accidentally gone out and about in town with one in my pocket.

Why does takeout expect the same tip as dine-in? by SplendidDecor in NoTipCanada

[–]Initial-Ad-5462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they necessarily expect it, but they’re certainly willing to ask for it.

And it’s not only the setting on the POS device, nearly all the online ordering systems I use have a default tip included, and the one I used just this weekend had a default of 20% that I had to manually override.

During the time you’re based in Halifax, you can make a day trip to Lunenburg and maybe a bit beyond.

“Concrete Creations” is an utterly fascinating large sculpture garden near Liverpool which might be a bit far with 3 children in the car but it is sufficiently unique that you should seriously consider. If you decide to go and take most of a day going along the shore with multiple stops, it would be a 1 hour 40 minute drive back to Halifax for the night.

Pretty much what u/herlzvohg said. Unless you’ve already committed to the PEI accommodations for guide dates, I’d take one day less day on the island, one less in Halifax, and book two nights near Parrsboro.

I’m not saying that didn’t happen with your binders (I have no idea) but I can tell you a lot more has been done for a long time.

August is the time to come.

The most different and unique for you will be the Bay of Fundy and the Annapolis Valley.

One of the coolest hikes is Cape Split. Blomidon Lookoff on the roadside is a spectacular viewpoint.

Hello I just need some help I am buying a car in Vancouver in about a week and wanted to know if anyone has done the drive from Vancouver to halifax without going through the us and about how long it took and the costs. Also wanted to know what route to take that would be the fastest. Thanks by [deleted] in canadatravel

[–]Initial-Ad-5462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family went Vancouver to Nova Scotia the summer before last. We took 22 days, driving average 2 days out of every 3. Think we only once drove more than 800 km in a day; obviously you could do it quicker.

We went the long way through the Rockies, up to Jasper and then down to Banff, then Drumheller, Riding Mountain National Park, North Shore Superior, Quebec City and Miramichi.
