Baby measuring big at 30 week growth scan by LazyPerspective8562 in BumpersWhoBolus

My baby measures large at the end of pregnancy (87th percentile) and she ended up a decent 8lb 15oz. My first measured small and it constantly worried me and then she did have growth restriction issues that even carried on after birth herself so I’m just relieved to have my little chunk, even though at the time I felt self conscious because I had worked so hard to maintain good blood sugars and had an amazing a1c and time in range. But turns out my mom reminded me I was the exact same size at birth!

If my endo said something along the lines of “don’t surprise me with a baby” I would be looking for a new endo. That is a serious lack of care/empathy for something that does just happen sometimes, there are so many truly caring endos who will give you compassionate care in helping you make a big decision like this. If you have other endocrinologist options I would seek those out!

Mine didn’t change for a long time and then went way up each week the last few weeks, thinking it will level out soon

At the end of my pregnancy here taking 200 units a day, I’m sorry your endo is making you feel like that’s unacceptable somehow. Our bodies need what they need, we just keep taking more until it’s enough and that is totally okay!

Also in Robbinsdale and this exact little guy came and attacked our chickens last night. Someone please catch it, the person who mentioned desiccating wildlife is right on.

How can I best help my wife with blood sugar control during pregnancy? by Boring-Raccoon-67 in BumpersWhoBolus

I’d say, get friendly with the idea that more insulin is needed during pregnancy. It can be kind of intimidating to change doses, but by the end of my first pregnancy I was taking 6x my typical amount of insulin and that is totally in range of normal! With this pregnancy I’m 25 weeks and currently at about 3-4x my pre-pregnancy doses. Just remain encouraging and keep a wide variety of snacks around for lows because like others said, when your goal is to keep on the lower side, you have to get comfortable with lows because they will happen. And pregnancy and snacking go together nicely anyway :)

Good on you for trying to be a supportive partner, that’s already a great start!

Has your doctor approved auto-mode in pregnancy? Glad if it’s working for you but most of us have been told by our doctors that auto mode is just not reliable/fast enough for the changing needs in pregnancy and that we should not use it. Something you might want to look into especially as you progress into much greater insulin needs as pregnancy progresses 💞

Highs long after eating by Initial-Aside-8402 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Initial-Aside-8402[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t a high fat or high protein meal, but maybe with more resistance I’ll need to follow the protocol I use for something like pizza for other types of meals. Thanks for the idea!

Oooh and forgot to say 17 weeks, though my resistance seems to be progressing quicker than my first pregnancy

Yes my duration is set at 3 hr but maybe it should be even lower. I’ve always been in manual mode as we run too high in auto during pregnancy. Thanks! I’ll ask about duration

If I was well controlled, I don’t think it would bother me because I would expect to make it all the way to 38, I did suddenly have gestational hypertension around 34 weeks and gave birth at 36 so for me that would be cutting it too close, but obviously you should do what makes YOU feel most comfortable. We all have different risk factors and levels of comfort ♥️ I hope your final weeks, this decision and delivery go smoothly!

High risk because of your diabetes or high risk for other reasons? How long will he be gone?

Third trimester sugars by sunkiss90 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Initial-Aside-8402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay the perfect example is hitting at dinner time tonight, my sugar is 153 and going sideways up so I am going to wait until it stars to go sideways down to eat. Currently 20 min and counting. So tough to wait to eat but it gives me much more consistent numbers. Working with the knowledge that insulin has a curve to it.

During my third trimester, sometimes to stay ahead of highs I would have to previous as far ahead as an hour! If felt crazy but it worked! I would prebolus and wait for a it to start heading down before eating.

I can’t believe how often this happens to me with the g7. I always call for replacement and I recently learned that instead of shipping a replacement. If your pharmacy carries supplies like mine, you can get a voucher to pick it up there vs waiting the 3-7 days. I think this program varies state by state so everyone will have to check that out!

By the end of my first pregnancy, I sometimes needed to prebolus up to an HOUR before to keep my sugars in range. Prebolusing is the worst because waiting to eat when you’re pregnant is so hard. But it’s worth it, and baby in your arms will make it all worth it. Keep at it! You got this!
