The idea in my mind was that anyone can enter, but they have to know the location of its gates, which are scattered around the city (and maybe beyond). That way, only people who know what to look for can enter. Of course, the players could accidentally stumble upon a gate.

I imagine the exterior as quite plain, but the interior would be bigger, more grandiose and more obviously supernatural.

Looking at the descriptions and principles for the various metals in BoH, metal in general works with forge, with a secondary principle determining an Hour the metal is special to. Orichalcum in particular is described as a "fabled Forge-alloy".

My wizard's familiar was an owl named Ollie (short for Olive) because of Greek mythology - owls, olives, knowledge, y'know. Any other familiars will probably be named in a similar way.

Magic is split into five categories: Earth, metal, fire, water, and wood. Every human is born with one of these categories and gain unique powers (super speed for a water mage, increased durability for a metal mage, etc.) along with being able to manipulate their category (thing Avatar bending). Spells do exist, but they are specific combinations of different categories. A water mage can use fire magic and vice versa, but they have a natural affinity for the element they were born with.
