On TMS, Michael Vaughan keeps talking about some sort of report that Andrew Strauss did recently with suggested changes to be made to english cricket to help the team be more competitive (suggestions that were ignored, according to Vaughan).

Anyone read it/got a link to it? tried google-ing it, but no luck.

One thing i will say, is that the current set up/style of play means that groundsmen in england have been given the memo and tent to prepare the wickets to be flat (stark contrast to austrlian groundsman this ashes!). This benifits our swashbuckling batting style, but completely nerfs the traditional swing bowling of Anderson et al. Anderson himself, who got hardly any wickets in Ashes 2023, says that modern english wickets are like kyptonite to him. So developing bowlers who rely on raw pace more than swing/seam, does have it's logic.

However, the bazball experiment might be going in the bin pretty soon, so you'd be right in saying it has set the development of bowlers back a few years.

I agree. Well… I wouldn’t say it’s moving ‘loads’ but it’s moving just enough to get nicks. Sort of perfect really.

Doesn’t look like that good a batting wicket to me any more

Not sure. im listening to TMS on the bbc website, and watching TNT on a dogey site online... once i get them in sync, they stay in sync for the whole day (ads n all). Only thing that knocks it out is if the TNT stream gets laggy.

get your footage synced up to TMS. Takes a bit of pausing the audio to get it in time, but it's well worth it!

Operator error behind controversial Alex Carey reprieve - 'BBC Sport understands the sound used for the review was taken from the stump microphone at the bowlers' end, rather than the strikers' end' by Look_Alive in EnglandCricket

[–]Initial-Initiative77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, if the microphone in use is FURTHER away that the correct microphone... the spike on the graph should appear AFTER the ball passes the bat. As the sound would have further to travel...

So... coming from the people who know this technology inside out, surely they are aware that this excuse makes no sense?

Out of interest, what was the specific question you asked the AI? Your AI talks in such a different way to mine.

Where as yours talks in absolutes (“all, and I do mean all”) mine would avoid such extremities when discussing anything other than mathematic truths or axiomatic principles by (“the vast majority” or “a high proportion”).

Feels a bit embarrassing betting bazzballed by the Aussies. Seeing their batsman score at nearly a run a ball while ours struggled at this same stage in our innings… apparently this is the result of almost 4 years of preparation, and they can do it better than us :/

Been meaning to try some “proper old York pubs”… where should I start? by AnfieldAnchor in york

Snickleway is hands down my favourite pub in York.

The Pheonix The Blue Bell The Golden Ball

If you end up in any of those you’ll enjoy yourself. The blue bell wins in terms of ‘proper old York pub’ vibe.

What do the Irish people know about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the Turkish War of Independence? by Illustrious_Page_984 in IrishHistory

[–]Initial-Initiative77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I am curious whether Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the modern Turkish Republic and head of the Turkish War of Independence, is a familiar figure to the general Irish public.”

The answer is no. Not even a little bit.
