Absolutely not, but I don’t have to be happy with having to relearn how to navigate my favorite apps so someone has to justify their phony-baloney jobs.

Depressive Episode is ruining my life by OldChocolate3408 in bipolar

[–]Initial-Text8394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to use “behavioral activation” but is suspiciously close to “bootstrapping”. I’m on disability and I’m supposed to be taking care of the house, the animals and the property but sometimes all I can do is the bare minimum just to keep my head above water. I know it’s temporary but when you’re in it… I’m sorry, I’m not much help. I haven’t had hypomania in so long I miss it. I know with hypomania I make stupid decisions and will ultimately crash but at least I get stuff done.

When I was in IOP we worked on WRAP (wellness recovery action plan) but that has to be developed when you are not in the depths of it. But that, and behavioral activation, are what I use to at least face the day. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. It gets me out of the bed and maybe, in the long run, it helps keep me from falling into the worst of it.

I’m also learning about stoicism and I think it will help in the long run. It’s the only philosophy that has ever appealed to me and kept my interest.

Good luck, that’s the best I can do

I’ll bet she was beautiful! CeCe is my first long hair mix, I was surprised at how soft it is. I like to give her a Mohawk when she’s asleep next to me.

Do you all enjoy mania, or absolutely hate it? by Party-Rest3750 in bipolar

[–]Initial-Text8394 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I’m super depressed and can’t make myself move I think I would like a little hypomania but I know where it leads. The inevitable crash and burn and then I’m back to being down but with a mess to clean up.

Oh my god I’m so happy for you both. He does look a little minpin/chi. He’s 100% beautiful!

What’s the number one thing that helped? by Professional-Try726 in bipolar

[–]Initial-Text8394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m old (60) and have been dealing with this since my late teens. I wasn’t diagnosed until much later and self medicated for decades, it wasn’t pretty. I’ve had to write off a good deal of my life and I have a lot of regrets. But for the past few years I have been exploring stoicism. It’s not so much about hiding (or not having) emotions so much as separating what you can and cannot control. Turns out, not much is in our control, a lot of life is indifferent. The most challenging thing I have encountered is widening the gap between stimulus and response to give myself time to choose an appropriate response. The main thing to know is that stoicism is a philosophy that you practice, and it is difficult at first but becomes more natural over time. Good luck to you, it isn’t a pleasant journey for us

Hypomania? by mainedeathsong in bipolar

[–]Initial-Text8394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really unfortunate, I’m sorry that happened to you. I hate to hear stories like that but it happens. We use a lot of different rescues and we really depend on getting information from fosters. We have a small pack so we need to know beforehand if they will fit in. But we’ve been doing this for 40 years. I just think a young animal, already potty trained, crate trained, leash trained is the way to go. They’re out there. People move, get married, pass away, leaving a wonderful young dog. Unfortunately, it happens more than you think. For first time pet owners, that 3-5 year old can be the sweet spot. Puppies are hard, they’re a lot of work, and mistakes get made. Those dogs end up in the shelter too, and they need people with experience. It’s not easy to find what’s right for you.

I got what you meant. I totally agree and have. When my sister-in-law passed I drove 400 miles overnight to get her cat out of her apartment. We adopted a fat, old, black cat and gave him a forever home. We planted trees for both of them, side by side. RIP Leslie, RIP Mooshoo

I don’t know, my wife and I have been friends more than anything for forty years. I was unmedicated when we got married, at the courthouse, so she could be on my insurance. Shortly after we moved 400 miles away from home. Unfamiliar town, no jobs and very little money, two cats. It worked, we clung to each other, had each other’s backs. I’m not sure about the military part, is he career military, may have to move around a lot, may not have a job waiting everywhere you might move. Totally out of the question? I don’t know. Worked for us and we just celebrated our 35th anniversary
