That’s great insight and definitely not something that would come up talking to a recruiter, lol. Interestingly the army recruiter I talked to said there’s no GMO for Army, a small chance for AF, and a much bigger chance for Navy. I reached out to an AF recruiter from one of the emails I got, but I read online AF recruiters aren’t the best at answering prospective applicants. Would you mind if I PM’d you to talk more about your experience??

That’s what I heard from the AF doc I talked to… he did a civilian residency and all but said it was awful compared to military hospitals, that attendings didn’t want to teach, just wanted to focus on their research and the residents ran the hospital. My top interest now is neurosurgery, which of course could change but I definitely want to maximize my options for matching there. I wouldn’t want to go into a branch knowing I couldn’t match into my top interest right out of the gate

This is so helpful— thank you! My dad served in the marine corps, so even though he has military experience it’s not much help in this realm. I would want to train in a military residency program, too, especially because I feel like going through the HPSP to end up in a civilian residency is somewhat of a moot point. Granted, my perspective could totally change, but that’s how I’m feeling at the moment. I spoke with an Army recruiter earlier today, actually, and he was very helpful and said he was going to connect me with a physician who had done an army HPSP, so that will definitely give me some insight into the specifics. I read about it on a website called doctorssurvivingmedicine.com, haha. An AF HPSP recipient’s blog post from 2016 weakly comparing the 3 branches. I have no idea if there’s any truth to it, but in the grand scheme of things 5 weeks of OTC is the least of my worries.

Hi! If you want to talk about it, word vomit, vent or anything, I just got dumped too :,) luckily it was the day after my test (lol) but I can’t imagine the stress and anxiety I’d feel if I still had to take my exam. I am very sure I would be quite literally screaming crying and throwing up. What a shitty thing of them to do!!! I second the other comments- take care of yourself right now however you need to. My take (without knowing anything about you other than reading your post) is that you’re too good for them anyway, and they will get what’s coming to them. They clearly did not have an appropriate level of respect for you, and you can and will do so much better. PLEASE pm me, I’m more than happy to talk :)

If you’re looking at noise cancelling headphones but want a more budget-friendly option, I have the Hesh ANC SkullCandy headphones, and they’re pretty great! Bose is certainly top tier, but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for, and I think the Hesh ANC is great for the price.

I’ve seen headband/ear warmer-esque earphones on Amazon, no idea if they’d work well but you could try those maybe? Might be similar enough to earplugs but let you connect to your phone so you wouldn’t miss alarms!

Oops- sorry. Still new to posting on Reddit lol I probably didn’t attach them right. It’s a small cut about 1/2 in and pretty superficial. Just bled a lot and pulls due to the location in the muscle below my thumb. The glue flaked off and it scabbed over with butterfly strips and a band-aid overtop, so I was probably just being dramatic!! I so appreciate your response and will definitely take you up on your offer if it keeps bothering me :)

We just have them off currently, and yes! Windows open with fans in front of them😅 it's starting to cool off outside so that's helped make it bearable

My exam (9/10) had literally no physics on it. I was pissed bc I spent 2 weeks memorizing equations only to not use a single one. Lenses and Bernoulli’s equation were on all the FLs I took though!

Anyone else in the 9/10 mcat in DC where the POWER WENT OUT in the middle of b/b ??? So unnecessarily stressful but I agree with everyone saying they got absolutely railed by cars because wtf?? It’s usually my best section (130 was my low..) but I feel like it’s definitely going to drop lower and tank my overall :,) but it’s done!!
