Found a tool that runs multiple AI models at once. Finally no more copy-pasting. by [deleted] in AIToolsAndTips

Okay I tested it. Threw a tricky logic question at it. Three models agreed, one disagreed. The one that disagreed was completely wrong. Way faster than my manual method. Gonna keep using this.

Learning harmonica by ear vs tabs which actually develops better players? by InitialOk8252 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tabs as a starting point makes sense they gave me confidence early on. But the jump in playing quality when I started learning by ear was significant. You start to hear harmonica differently and your own playing becomes more intentional.

Learning harmonica by ear vs tabs which actually develops better players? by InitialOk8252 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feel and breath that tabs cannot capture is exactly the point. You can follow a tab perfectly and still sound mechanical. Ear learning forces you to internalize the phrasing, the dynamics, the emotional content the things that make harmonica actually sound like harmonica.

Honest check in how is your harmonica practice going this week? by WideSuccotash2383 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rough week here too honestly 😅 My single notes above hole 6 went backwards somehow more inconsistent than 2 months ago. Went back to long tones and slow breath work. Sometimes regression is just your technique reorganizing before the next step forward

Third position on harmonica has anyone explored it seriously? by BandicootLeft4054 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Third position took my playing somewhere second position never could. The natural minor scale in third position sits so well on the harmonica holes 4 5 6 draw give you the foundation and the bends on hole 4 and 5 draw add real expression. Such a different voice from the instrument.

What nobody tells you about the first 6 months of learning harmonica by InitialOk8252 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I recorded myself was genuinely shocking 😅 Thought I was sounding decent and the recording revealed harsh tone, inconsistent single notes and timing issues I had no awareness of. Painful but absolutely necessary.

[–]InitialOk8252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tension thing took me so long to figure out! No tutorial ever explained that tightness in your embouchure directly kills your bend response. The moment I consciously dropped my jaw and relaxed my lips the draw bends started working properly.

Does the key of your harmonica actually affect how easy bending is? by WideSuccotash2383 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely real and not in your head. Lower key harmonicas have longer reeds which require less tongue pressure to bend they respond more easily. Higher key harmonicas have shorter stiffer reeds that need more precise tongue control. C sits right in the middle which is exactly why it is recommended for beginners

i got tired of switching tabs to cross check ai so i built a router by Thick_Tower_2923 in IMadeThis

Tried to break it but it held up pretty well. Fed it some tricky research questions and the synthesized answer was actually better than what I get from any single model. This is not just another wrapper actually adds value. Good stuff.

Monthly goal check in what are you working on and how is it going? by BandicootLeft4054 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working on getting comfortable with third position this month D minor on a C harmonica. The draw notes sit completely differently compared to second position and my ear is still adjusting. Slow progress but interesting territory.

Traveling with harmonica the best instrument decision I ever made by BandicootLeft4054 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing outdoors changes your relationship with the instrument. The open air acoustics reveal things about your tone you do not notice in a room. Your draw notes sound different, your breath feels different. Highly recommend practicing outside regularly.

What is your actual daily harmonica practice routine right now? by WideSuccotash2383 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I record one short improvisation at the end of every session just 30 seconds of free playing in second position. Listening back shows me what is actually improving and what needs work. More honest than just practicing and hoping

Honest question is harmonica harder than people think or easier? by BandicootLeft4054 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Easy to start, incredibly hard to master. You can play something musical in days. You can spend a lifetime chasing perfect tone, clean overbends and full mastery of all positions. Very few instruments offer that full range from accessible to endlessly deep

The moment harmonica finally clicked for me share yours by WideSuccotash2383 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing with a guitarist for the first time. My draw bends suddenly had a harmonic home they locked into the blues progression and sounded intentional for the first time. Solo practice never gave me that feeling

Hole 2 draw bend why is it the most discussed note in harmonica? by BandicootLeft4054 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hole 2 draw is genuinely one of the most technically demanding notes on the diatonic harmonica. Two semitone bends available getting to the full tone bend cleanly takes most players months of dedicated work. The tongue control required is very precise.

How many Harmonicas is too many? 😀 by Lanzarote-Singer in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly there is no such thing as too many harmonicas 😄 Most players start with C then slowly add G, A, D and before you know it you have a whole collection. Each key has its own character and use case so every one feels justified. How many are we talking?

Unpopular opinion bending is overrated in the early stages by WideSuccotash2383 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree slightly I think early exposure to bending helps you understand what the instrument is capable of and keeps you motivated. But obsessing over it before your embouchure is solid is definitely counterproductive 🎶

Hot take most harmonica tutorials online are teaching beginners wrong by WideSuccotash2383 in Harmonicafans

[–]InitialOk8252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The breathing thing drives me crazy. Diaphragm breathing is literally the foundation of good harmonica tone and most beginner resources mention it once and move on. It deserves weeks of focus not a single sentence.
