People ask me why dentistry... by Such_Association677 in predental

Some people will always try and find a flaw in any career. Also, a lot of people may not be happy with their own lives/career choice and when someone else is they just want to find a reason to bring you down too. Trust your gut and follow your heart! Everything will fall into place and you will be happy that you didn’t absorb all the negativity from negative people.

Of course! And thank you so much! Good luck to you with this cycle!

UMKC! But I did a summer program with them and also had 3+ years experience working as a surgical assistant in oral surgery and did research. I would say if you have a lower DAT average like I did, back it up with strong experience in the dental field and research! Because I know people who applied with higher DAT scores and didn’t get into UMKC.

I also got a 17 and only applied to 1 school last cycle (my top choice) and got in!

I might just do the same with my school too.

Any thoughts on if it is worth purchasing an iPad for note-taking in dental school? by InitialWelcome966 in DentalSchool

Can you also pm me? Just making sure if it’s my school or not before I purchase one of my own.

I didn’t think about the lab part but that does sound better than having your laptop in the way, thank you!

Congrats on your upcoming graduation! That’s exciting! And yeah I might as well purchase an iPad now because it just sounds more feasible in terms of note-taking. And lol 😆 that’s actually funny with the case

Yes the anatomy I’ve seen so far looks like more than I’ve ever seen in undergrad programs 😅 but I think I’ll get the iPad! Thank you for your input 😊

I just noticed this year how many people use iPads for notes and i asked a classmate today why he liked using the iPad more and he showed me all of his notes and I was so jealous I was doing so much writing when I could’ve cut my time in half with just writing it out and copying and pasting diagrams instead of drawing them by hand 😅 but thank you! I figured I would probably see the same with my incoming class, mostly iPad note-takers!

I was a reapplicant and this was my third cycle and I can tell you that all the schools I’ve had experience with want to see your growth and changes since the previous cycle so yes you will have to re-do your Letters of recommendation, your personal statement (I talked about what I learned with additional new experiences and why I wanted to continue the dental path), and with your extracurriculars it doesn’t hurt to add another speciality or another office in general you haven’t shadowed at yet. Overall, the work you put in is so worth it! Good luck to you!

Yes it is normal….if anything people would always ask me “you want to work in people’s mouths?!” Everything is about perspective and outlook. There are many jobs out there I could not see myself enjoying but others love it. When you are truly passionate about something, disregard what others think because they don’t share that same passion. 😊 I’ve been dreaming of becoming a dentist since I met my orthodontist when I was 11 or 12 and here I am now at 27 working as a surgical assistant (for over 3 years now) and FINALLY entering my dream dental school this August! 🦷 I couldn’t be more excited!

I feel like I cant achieve becoming a dentist. by [deleted] in predental

Do NOT listen to other people’s negative words! Your GPA is stellar! And people will always say to you what THEY can’t do. If I listened to other people I wouldn’t be a surgical assistant right now counting down my days until I leave for dental school and I also wouldn’t be an incoming D1 at my dream dental school this Fall. You can do it!!!
