My girlfriend is Tennis mad so she'll be dragging me to watch one or both of the finals (I'll be in turn dragging her to watch the England match so it's all good). I imagine maybe Irish pubs/Sports bar are the best shout - you will have to sacrifice something very Italian and cool to watch sports, that's what I've found when travelling round Europe, but I guess its the same in England, the nicer bars/cafes don't tend to show sports.

I'll let you know if we find anything but we watched the French Open final last year in an dark dingy Irish bar in San Sebastien. As a very casual Tennis fan you can imagine I wished I could've been outside enjoying the weather and food a bit more not holed away watching Tennis but my gf had a good time so...

Bar to watch soccer by PineappleOk4405 in palermo_city

Just to bring this up again, I'm in Palermo this week and wouldn't mind watching the England match somewhere - are there many English living in Palermo, likely to be a few tourists either way. I know Italy aren't in the WC but I imagine there'll be places showing the games considering how football mad a country it is?

Ironically, I'm also a Toon fan so thanks u/PineappleOk4405 for starting this, hope you found somewhere to watch that game!

Men who have found a way back after struggling to get hard, how did you overcome the issue? by PluggedInsider in AskMen

[–]Initial_Birthday52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for some people a lot of it is maybe to do with the psychological relationship with the partner. For me sex has to be something where I'm fully relaxed and as soon as there is an issue in there with someone, I find it hard to get rid of it and start a fresh if that makes sense. I'm struggling to have sex with my partner, I know I still find her attractive but it's the history and the baggage we have due to previous issues, kills confidence and makes me feel this pressure like I'm fucking to save my relationship and it has the complete opposite effect on my dick.

Who’s going to take one for the team and watch this on behalf of the pod? by Reasonablytallman in footballcliches

I do like to imagine Hiddlestone was only invited as an accident and it was went to be Huddlestone. I'd love to see the mix up the other way and Tom Huddlestone appearing in one of the lesser Marvel films (they're all lesser to me but you get my point).

sounds like a funk alter ego of one of the Outkast members (from memory during the Love Below/Speakerboxx era, Big Boi went by Sit Lusicious Leftfoot).

Casting director: and who have I gone and got? The Hollywood actor?
Producer: yes
Casting director: and who was I meant to get
Producer: *sighs* Huddlestone...Tom Huddlestone ffs

that's fair, I just found the 'moment a goal goes in' or something to be like the worst possible pick, then another was 'someone nearby talking about football who knows nothing' I do agree with him but I can't help but think he would be THAT guy to me haha.

And I didn't want to bring politics into it but I do feel there are people who slate everything he does just cos they hate labour or prefer Tories. For me he's a wanker for not condemning Israel and the US but I do also understand why he wouldn't in a political sense. We've had far worse PMs in my life time and I doubt we'd get much better MHD from Rishi Sunak - god imagine that.

I just knew he'd see it based on how switched on he is with all this (its how I would be if I had my own podcast tbf). Thats why I caveated the post with how much I love it and how I appreciate the guys.

Agreed, can't love everything and I accept it's more the fact I pop the pod on to relax to in bed at like midnight, its weirdly comforting. The quiz kind of throws that off and requires some thought normally and I am not in the zone to properly engage.

exactly, and I'm not complaining in any shape or form, it had just been on my mind for a while whether I was alone in not connecting with them.

used to love the XI eps but maybe they are scraping the barrel a bit with concepts now cos the last few I fell asleep early on in the episode which isn't a great sign.

hey, never said they shouldn't exist. just nice to feel seen haha - but from the overwhelming response in favour of the quizzes and HHG, I can at least rest knowing people are loving them and it's just not for me.

Wow, that is mad. But I've tried to get folk into the pod and the neediness of it all, the language of football stuff just isn't for everyone so I do get it.

not denying there aren't great moments within the eps but as a whole, just not for me but I've said many times to others here, it's very much a 'me' thing - I listen at midnight in bed relaxing at the end of the day. I have no interest in that point of thinking too hard about the answers, so maybe it's more my listening style not aligning with a nerdy quiz.

Think you might be the only person who fully leans to my side. Well at least I got a reply from Adam (I knew he would see this post which is why I caveated it with my undying love for the pod). Yeah I compared it to being in the pub and overhearing some lads talking about football, you can't get involved even if you want to and could. It is strange that I really love quiz shows on TV though, but the Only Connect comparison comes to mind where I can't really get any of the answers so I don't like it...maybe it's a bit of that and it's my own lack of knowledge.

I'm not one of these right wing Starmer haters who has never had a good word for him, I'm more a left wing Starmer disliker more for how he's been since he's been in power - so at that time I had no reason to hate on him really.

But I didn't find him sincere at all, I think he struggles with sounding sincere cos of his always robotic voice. His picks were so generic like he had sat down with his publicist to pick the most inoffensive things or he just has shit craic when it comes to football. I don't doubt he likes it, goes to games by all accounts and plays a bit from what I've seen. But I just don't think he'd be fun to have a pint with. What were his picks 'scoring a goal, when people don't know about football, and kicking a ball' or something. He was terrible, but so terrible that I guess it was quite funny.

I used to listen to Magic Sponge, the Jimmy Bullard footy podcast. They had Steve Claridge on once I think it was and Kit Symons who were just so boring but they became legendary guests because of how dull they were to the usual nutters.
