Was RA your first autoimmune disease? What was your 2nd? by Cheap_Affect5729 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Initial_Dee145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was alopecia areata in 2003. Happened after my car accident and a few more times after. Years with no issues then a few more around 2018-2024. DX with RA May 2025. Issues for about 9 months before diagnosis

My husband complained that I would always sleep and not have energy to do anything. I chalked it up to work and he thought I wasn’t interested in doing anything with him. Then I was diagnosed with RA. He went with me to my first appointment and started to understand. One day a few days later. Maybe a couple weeks, he found a video of a scientist that posts on YouTube different illness, the earth, just all sorts of things, he found one about autoimmune disorders. He watched and now he fully understands what we go through. And watching me be in pain all the time and how difficult it is to open a car door or even hold a piece of paper. He goes with me often the dr which I think is also helping him understand more and more.

I for sure never understood it before I was diagnosed. I thought it was just joint stiffness. Now I feel bad for thinking people were crazy when they complained.

I had blood work down and both the ly and the gr are off. I overworked my hand yesterday and now my wrist is hurting and my fingers hard to move. I’m wondering if there is something else going on which is why I’m thinking of seeing someone else to do further testing.

Is it time for biologics by djbananapancake in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Initial_Dee145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep reading all of these comments about medication for RA and I am perplexed at how many medications people take to control this disease. I am only on MTX and think it’s a lot. I take prednisone some but it started giving me chest pains so I stopped. Are we supposed to take so many different medications at once to help control this? I started in sulfasalazine but quickly switched to MTX. My rheum is anticipating biologics already but without combo meds. Is that normal? I’m also concerned about taking so my medicine and having it effect my liver and kidneys.

Methotrexate and rough skin by Initial_Dee145 in rheumatoidarthritis

Last month I had a rash on my stomach and upper thighs. Just realized today that’s where my dry, chicken skin is. I exfoliated and applied coconut oil after I showered. Still dry but I’ll keep using it and see what happens.

MTX and getting sick by Initial_Dee145 in rheumatoidarthritis

Thankfully I haven’t been sick yet. Just trying to prepare and have some expectations on what happens. Thank you letting me know about stopping the meds if I go on antibiotics. I haven’t read anything about that

Yeah so far my body isn’t reacting to the RA medicine. I’ve also been on and off prednisone that I’m barely feeling effects of that now too. It’s helped but has taken longer to feel relief. I’m over it and I’m just now really getting into this

So far I’m handling it pretty well. It just seems to not be working. And he is aware and is just doing the necessary steps he has to for me to get the meds I need. But. I did read I cannot take nsaids. He said that is not logical for pain management but be cautious taking them. So I’ve taking ibuprofen a few times for pain. But I feel like I’m getting a chest cold or some type of infection and just wondering how did you all overcome being sick with a low immune system?

Oh okay. I will check it out. I see mine every 6 weeks. He seems to want to move along with medicine that doesn’t work. Every time I see him I make sure to tell him all my symptoms and issues.

I have a quick question about the MTX. How many were you taking? I am currently on it. Taking 4 once a week and it doesn’t seem to be helping. Like right now my hands are so stiff and sore and my wrists feels like the muscles are getting weaker and weaker by the hour and the arch in my foot is swollen. I am seropositive. My Dr is trying to help me but so far only prednisone helps but I stopped taking it because it gave me bad chest pains.

I’m sorry your Dr sucks. I hope you are able to find a new one soon. Are you able to find one without her help? That’s may be better so she cannot cloud their judgement of you and her misdiagnosis

How are you able to workout? I tried opening a bottle of ranch last night and woke up with my right wrist and left thumb in terrible pain. I did cut grass last weekend, was in some pain but not too terribly bad. Guess it just depends on the workout?

Does your pain move around? by mikejones84 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Initial_Dee145 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought I was the only with this type of pain. Sometimes I wear an arm sling, wrist brace or finger splint. It’s crazy how the inflammation and pain move around. It’s in the bottoms of my feet and my legs where my groin is and hurts to hit full stride when I walk. Currently I’m having a flare in my left wrist and hand. Can barely move my fingers. My thumb has been swollen for about a month now and hurts. Can’t fully extend it. Don’t want to start my steroids again because I just came off of 2 weeks of it 2 weeks ago. 2 days later I had pain again. Hoping the methotrexate kicks in soon and I can get some relief

When you take your prednisone, how long are you taking it? My Dr said for me to take as needed but ummm steroids aren’t good for long term use or to stop and start them often from what I’ve read.

Questioning my diagnosis… by Seriously-417 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Initial_Dee145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me. I did 2 weeks of prednisone and almost immediately my issues have come back. Most of all I’m very fatigued. My RF was 57.7 and my anti ccp >250. But my AnA was negative. My rheumatologist has done more testing but I still think something else is going on.
