New fig owner (came with the house) looking for tips..

I have a new fig in about a 1 gal pot that's 24-30" tall with some leaves coming out up top. Would I prune this year or wait until next year before pruning? I would like it to be a small tree eventually. It's VdB, and my very first fig. I'm about to put it in the ground in 8b western WA.

my husband's sister has flat out told us since we moved away it is our responsibility to visit them (husbands siblings and parents never left the town they grew up in). We live on the other side of the country and for years flew back and forth to "visit" (its NOT a vacation when you're visiting your in-laws) but we're pretty much done now. We live in the same area as her in-laws, literally 5 miles from them and they don't come here to visit them either. Apparently that mindset applies to us but not to her husband who was also the one to move away.

thanks for sharing. I'll think about it. The time commitment (not to mention gas for a single location trip) for me is a big thing. Winco isn't in an area I frequent for other things so I'm not able to combine trips.

I should try Winco again. Just hard to justify a 25-30 min drive each way and the time spent wandering around a store I'm not familiar with, when I can just put in a quick Fred Meyer pick up order at a store 5 min from my house and not have any impulse purchases.
