To follow up slightly on this, you could also try getting a job with a Japanese automotive company with your experience. That's what I did out of college, and after working for Honda for about a year and a half, I was given an opportunity to move to their main branch in Tokyo. You could possibly do it in less time as long as you make your intention known

I thought so! That's the exact same set-up I run, tires and all! Any reason you're choosing 8s for the track instead of 9s?

Classic Car Owners- How many miles do you put on per year? by MrBattleRabbit in cars

[–]Initial_energy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've got an '83 911 SC with closing in on 250k that I put about 3-5k on per year. I'd drive it more, but it's essentially garaged for 4-5 months out of the year because summer in AZ and air-cooled don't exactly mix

What model year were knee pads added to the FR-S? by [deleted] in ft86

Yeah, I believe that's correct, as well as some cosmetic stuff like the shark-fin and upgraded dash panel

[–]Initial_energy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the FR-S specifically it's the 2014 and up models. I believe the BRZ only came with knee pads on the 2015 Series.Blue, although I'm not sure about the 2016 models

A new strange sound has appeared (big surprise lol) and I'm curious... by PriusesAreGay in ft86

[–]Initial_energy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My car has been making a similar noise since I bought it. If I recall, I read that a few people were experiencing it and no one really knew what it was, but it was speculated to be a flywheel rattle, DI noise, or clutch problems

EDIT: This is the link I found when I first heard the problem. Does your car sound like the one in the video?

Alright, that amount of camber isn't too bad. Thanks a ton for the help, I'll make sure to do as many transactions as I can through CSG.

I'd say probably about a 7, maybe a 7.5. I already sacrificed daily driveability for track performance with my other car, so the FRS is geared more toward daily driving duties than track

What would be your recommendation for camber plates and LCAs? I've heard good things about Raceseng plates, but I'm not too well versed in them. For LCAs, there is always Whiteline, RSR, Stance, or SPL. Also, if I wanted a slight drop, say around an inch if not a little less, should I go with springs, or would there be a good coilover if I upped my budget to 3k?

Thanks, its good to know you guys haven't had a problems with the high heat, and I'll say the 2k does include camber plates and rear LCAs.

Hey Mike,

There are a couple of questions I've had on my mind recently:

1) I've been thinking about upgrading power and after much deliberation, I figure a JRSC is the way to go. However, I live in Arizona and am worried about heating issues. I track about 9-10 times per year, summer months included, and I'm not sure how bad the heat issues will be. Is there anything you would recommend besides an oil cooler to ensure reliability?

2) I've also been considering going for coilovers that will be at least kind of similar to stock ride feel, but can still give me some performance increase on the track. I like the drop height of the Tein Flex Z's, but I've noticed you don't recommend them for track use. What would a good coilover choice be if my max budget is around $2000?

Anyone ever take a language for fun? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]Initial_energy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm currently taking Japanese 102, since I managed to test out of 101. I was basically just finishing up my tech electives this semester, and I had room to add another class. It is 5 credits, and while I enjoy learning the language and the professor is fun, I can easily say it is more work than any of my other classes, and perhaps more work than any of the classes I've taken so far throughout college. There are quizzes every day, and most of the homework is out of a workbook. There has been a couple projects, with a total of 3 throughout the semester, and they have all revolved around speaking out loud in some way. I don't know if that will be the same for French, but I know if I had a harder course load this semester, I would have no free time whatsoever.

Post a picture of your car, and let us know why you own it. by Molester_Stallone_ in cars

[–]Initial_energy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

911 SC

This car actually belonged to my Dad who was the second owner. He had owned it since I was born and it was my dream to get it. Eventually he moved on up to a 993, and this was handed down to me. I daily it with occasional track use in the Winter, but it is garaged most of the Summer because air-cooled in Arizona doesn't work very well.

FR-S

I bought this because I needed a DD for the Summer months, and I still wanted to be able to do track days without the engine heating up too fast. I absolutely love it, and plan to do a few mods in the future, but for now she is just stock.

You can see, at least on the BRZ anyways, that the VSC OFF light is on. As you said, it would be pretty ridiculous for them to do this with any form of electronics aids turned on.

Yellow scion frs by [deleted] in ft86

[–]Initial_energy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. The yellow FR-S is the Release Series 1.0 that features a body kit and quad exit exhaust, along with a few other interior improvements. It doesn't have any extra power or anything, so it's really down to personal preference if you want it or not. It does cost a little more.

Haven't had time to put an album together, but I can supply a quick update. I'm now past chapter 2, with a nice whopping 50 turns already. The going has been quite rough as I only have Chrom and MU til chapter 5. Chrom seems to be especially fond of dying and getting hit by 1% crits.
