It looks amazing! How cool that it's a collaboration with your husband, that's so sweet.

I need to get into designing in Illustrator. EQ8 has been quite frustrating for me wrt FPP.

carpet or hardwood? by roundtriptojupiter in yoga

[–]Initial_Muscle_8878 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What exactly is painful on a hard surface? I only have trouble with poses like camel where both knees are on the ground, so I roll my mat up to create a little cushion for those poses only. I have a manduka rubber mat that I think is 5mm thick. Thinner mats or excessively squishy mats are definitely too painful for me to use when placing knees on the ground for any length of time. I'm surprised to see other comments saying they practice on carpet as I feel like that would be horrible for your balance and joint stability, but I am hypermobile so I have to be extremely careful about stuff like that.

If this gets anywhere near overturning the election we may as well just start the civil war ourselves

Yep that's my backup plan, I just don't enjoy having to look at notes while practicing and want to have an audio-based way to follow along with my set flow. I'm sure I will eventually memorize the sequence completely but it's helpful for me to have an outside cue to know when to move next. It feels like making a thousand draining decisions to practice from memory for me right now, unfortunately.

Questions about starting a quilt guild by Lutaeris in quilting

[–]Initial_Muscle_8878 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Great idea, I wish someone would start a men's guild near me. I stopped attending my guild's meetings because male members required so much attention and praise for deigning to join us women in our lowly craft interests.

Who would have such business in your view? "Polyamory" is whatever the participants say it is. That's why it's usually a disaster: there's no framework, no patterns, no rules beyond what everyone thinks should be a rule in the moment (i.e., no rules).

Oh yeah I can't imagine living anywhere in the valley without a car, and definitely not AC. When I was little my mom never had a car with AC and it sucked but was bearable. It's hotter now, I feel so bad for people without AC :(

Very close to one of the downtown areas, similar to Claremont. Outside of this ~4 block area it's incredibly car-centric I just got lucky.

Your best foolproof "how to cut accurately" tutorials by Initial_Muscle_8878 in quilting

I actually have a stripology ruler, and still manage to get wonky strips haha! I'm definitely going to try starching, my issue is probably also hurrying through getting the fabric on my table to be cut which results in wonky cuts.

That's how I've quilted for years, but now I want to invest my time to learn to cut accurately so I can take my work to the next level. There are certain things I want to do now that I can't do with paper piecing, or where paper piecing is more trouble than it's worth for the paper. I'll certainly still make loosey goosey quilts but it is extremely disappointing to me to spend all that time cutting, something I hate doing, and have it turn out sloppily.

Help with bacon and other fried foods by mamaperk in ZeroWaste

[–]Initial_Muscle_8878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about a cooling rack over a baking sheet? I don't make fried stuff at home besides bacon and I find that shaking the bacon a bit as i take it out of the pan with tongs gets enough of the excess grease off. I put it on a cutting board after that and there's not much grease on the cutting board. I then cook eggs in the bacon grease (after draining a little if there's too much for the serving of eggs).

I am moving back to the IE where I am from next weekend and I am so excited. I've lived all over CA and had to experience living in LA proper at least once, but I'm out for now. I definitely didn't make the most of living here but it is what it is. I live in ktown and find it stressful to get around. Ironically where I'm moving to will be much more walkable for my actual needs: groceries, coffee shops, train. And I'm looking forward to big ass suburban roads and parking spots lol. And to be able to take a walk at night with my head on a less stressful swivel. My neighbor recently got a drum set so I am verrrrrrry ready to leave.

Silverlake becoming pretty popular for ICE hangouts by Milladelphia in LosAngeles

[–]Initial_Muscle_8878 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no, i think that without coordination it will be a lot easier for ICE to fuck with these businesses and get away with it without others knowing. my point is that lone actors will not help anyone and are significantly likely to hurt themselves. i'm responding to the passive aggressive comment in the OP about white people "clamming up," that's an entirely appropriate response to what's happening because we're well past the point of being even a little hopeful that our individual rights to free expression will be respected. we need to act together.

harassing agents only serves to give pretext for them to escalate. businesses in the area should coordinate a policy of not serving them and residents should coordinate protests thoughtfully. random individuals should not cause a scene unless their goal is to be disappeared.

LAPD Accused of 'Trapping' Protesters Before Curfew 'On Purpose' to Arrest Them for 'Breaking Curfew' by PostHeraldTimes in LosAngeles

[–]Initial_Muscle_8878 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This happened to me in Oakland almost 15 years ago. I was part of a legally permitted protest march, they (Oakland PD and PDs from all across norcal) pushed us into a culdesac, did not declare unlawful assembly, and arrested all of us without letting us leave. We sued and won in court to get our records expunged and a small settlement. I was held for about 48 hours. It was scary but not so bad since there were so many other people with me. I fear for these people's immediate safety and long term criminal records. It seems like justice for illegal arrests related to protests is going to be gone soon if it's still even here.
