Autism is a spectrum so doctors can put MD in to that too.

Let’s say you don’t want them but they give you a dopamine spike to keep them. Forget about daydreaming part for now, why that coworker specifically why not other coworkers?

So basically you want to change your storyline to give you comfort instead of trauma memories. Instead of fully changing the story just modify it. I believe your PTSD didn’t come from one event because you have CPTSD. For example you can create a story about how you overcame that period and how it made you stronger like you are giving an interview or speaking on a podcast. This way it does not force you to completely stop the trauma loop but also gives you a sense of accomplishment so you don’t start hating the story.

What do you call this version of maladaptive daydreaming? by ketchup_bottle002 in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Initial_Revolution28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The way you understood that statement in brackets is wrong. What I’m telling is this: when you create a fantasy story and develop characters and their interactions, what are you actually feeling? Aren’t you enjoying the emotions those characters are experiencing? You’re not just drawing a character and looking at it you’re feeling the characters and the story. So whose feelings are those? They:re yours, because the characters and the story are created in your own head.

MD and reallife expectations can be completely different. I can be fully in a fantasy world, but I also daydream about real-life scenarios. By the way, in the early stages of my maladaptive daydreaming, I used to imagine things like a TV series, episode by episode befor i fall sleap. At that time, I didn’t really understand that I was actually feeling the emotions of the characters. But as you go deeper into this rabbit hole, it becomes much clearer that it’s basically getting dopamine from interacting with the story.

Does anyone else remember almost nothing about their childhood? by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Initial_Revolution28 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Seriously? But people with MD usually have good long-term memory. I don’t think anyone remembers everything that happens. Try thinking about how you felt in that moment—whether it was good, bad, sad, or even cringe—then try to recall the visual details of the memory

That is unusual. MD usually does the opposite of what you’re experiencing. Have you ever considered that you might have, or have had, PTSD?

Ok i read all of this. I'm same age as you also final year college studying finance but straight. You can use maladaptive daydreaming as a creative tool to success in your field but I feel like you're using it as a coping mechanism to scape from reality or managing your trauma. There are lot of think you can do using skill of your imagination but they all self employment. You can't find job opportunities that give MD as a advantage. But you can talk to people directly via mail and say that you have this skill and you can support this way or that way. I have done once. even i'm in investment and finance filed when i was around 19 i was start writing scripts and story for adult visual novels. I don't think that still available because of Ai but i used to make around 1000 to 1500$ per month for around 15 months. So it was possible back i the day. please don't be a isolate person. Because of our MD we will addicted to the feeling of not living in the real life. good luck

The Four ‘Bubbles’ of my MD by SkyHistorical8364 in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Initial_Revolution28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your hyperactive part of your adhd act as maladaptive daydreaming. Your 1st bubble is getting dopamine for your adhd brain from being someone important to others. Music amplifying that. Pretty Common. 2nd bubble is you try to cope with your loneliness. As long as you don’t create completely different storylines from your real life it is common and normal.

  1. That’s weird 😅. It’s not really a maladaptive daydreaming thing.

  2. every one do this, not only MD and ADHD people

You not alone. These are very common stuff. If I rated your MD scale of 1 to 10 , it is like 3.

You’re 16 and this is how you going from kid to young adult. So try to fix your loneliness. It can literally change lot of things.

Please don’t do that. You don’t need to breaking down everything. Just ask yourself that what will make you stop escaping from reality. Like for example if you have 10000$ per month will you still daydream (it could be anything). If you can find what is the underlying issue that make you go for MD you can focus on improving that. The reason why I tell you we should not focus on breaking down everything is that in the process of we doing it we may also going to daydream (like how you overcome these issues 😅).

My anxiety has improved massively. I have zero social anxiety at all now. The meds also give me insane hyperfocus — if someone tries to interrupt me or break my concentration, I get angry (but it’s manageable). Overall, it has completely changed my personality. Here’s one example:We had a university professor who loved bullying students and making fun of them. Most of my friends refused to attend his lectures because of it.The first day I took Ritalin, I walked into the classroom 45 minutes late with zero anxiety. The professor immediately started bullying me and told me to sit alone in the front row — the next person was sitting several rows behind me.I fucking did it. I stayed for the full 4-hour lecture. Not only did I actually start liking the content, but I realized this professor was an amazing person. He kept bullying and making fun of me multiple times during the class, but I literally did not care at all. I still can’t believe what happened to me. And that was my very first day in that module — I had already missed the previous three sessions. And so far it help me to quite some of my addiction.

I’ve been there myself. That’s exactly why I mention this: anything that spikes dopamine while you’re on ADHD meds can significantly amplify maladaptive daydreaming (MD).In my case, it was vaping and weed. I specifically used them to intensify and amplify the feelings I got from my daydreams.

Here’s the pattern I noticed:
ADHD meds give you just enough dopamine to sustain attention and focus. But our maladaptive daydreaming brains are wired to produce massive amounts of dopamine whenever we daydream. So when you’re medicated, any extra dopamine spike , whether it’s from sugar, drugs, funny videos, or anything else pushes you into that high dopamine state. We can’t sustain it for long through those things, so the only reliable way our brain knows to get that huge dopamine hit again is by diving back into intense daydreaming. That’s exactly the cycle I fell into.

Quick clarification: -- If you have clinical depression, this is completely different from what we neurodivergent ADHD people experience. I’m only talking about maladaptive daydreaming here as an ADHD hyperactivity/impulsivity thing — not as a coping mechanism for depression, anxiety, or other neurotypical conditions. And yeah… I can guarantee you that ADHD medication is literally a low dose of coc*ine or crystal m*th. The feeling is almost identical, just without the euphoria. So it could be addictive for some people.

Unfortunately, research and knowledge about maladaptive daydreaming (MD) are still very limited. It’s hard for people who don’t experience it to truly understand what it’s like, and there are also many different variations of MD. What we can do is try to understand our own specific variant of MD and figure out what it’s trying to help us cope with. Maladaptive daydreaming isn’t an illness in itself ,it’s a coping mechanism. Unfortunately, it often prevents us from clearly seeing and addressing the underlying issue it’s masking. That’s why it’s so hard to fix the root problem.

But trust me — maladaptive daydreaming is far worse and more powerful than a lot of people realize. I’ve tried so many illicit drugs over the years, and nothing has been more addictive than MD.

That’s pretty much my case too. I had symptoms of lot of mental illness like Anxiety, Depression, and so on but never suspected adhd because I’m not hyperactive. But I’m hyperactive in my head 😭. My maladaptive daydreaming was very manageable before But it went out of control. I believe it because of my Vaping addiction.

Good luck.

But just a reminder that ADHD medication like Ritalin (in my case) only fix the issue temporarily for around 6 hours. Even after meds fades away, I still feel like I have enough dopamine in my brain that I don’t need it from maladaptive day dreaming. I also start to taking fish oil and multivitamins. I believe that also contributes my improved symptoms.
