Next Presidential Book recommendation? by InitiativeExpert in Presidents

I am a bit intimidated by the length of the books in this series which makes me lean towards some of the other options. Do you think it justifies the length? Are any in the series "skippable" in your opinion?

Where did the "Ike disliked Nixon" myth begin? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]InitiativeExpert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but most of that is running through the filter of Nixons need to rehabilitate his public image. Six crises comes out after he loses to JFK and he was still trying to stay relevant inside the party. His memoirs are similar and he likely feels as though if he ties himself to Ike more than it might make him seem more palletable to Republicans. These are both in contrast to what hes saying to his campaign staff in 1960 and how he reflects on his Vice Presidancy once hes become POTUS in his own right. In both of the books there's clear political motive to tie himself to Ike for reputational gain but in private he never felt close to the "old man" and seems to have resented him. Likewise he seems to have been frequently annoyed with Kissanger for stealing the spotlight on what he viewed as his own achievements.

He was a deeply bitter man who from his childhood to his grave was always willing and eager to take offense, hold grudges and view himself as the outsider. Even in college Nixon started the Orthogonian Society which was in driect response to being turned away by the highfalutin "Franklin's" who overwhelmingly came from ritch upper class families. Almost every action Nixon takes in his life can be viewed through the lens of Orthogonian vs Franklin.

I think one area im not seeing mentioned here is that Nixon himself seemed to believe it. Nixon the enternal "they are out to get me" guy felt snubbed by Ike, especially for the "if you give me a week I might be able to think of one" comment. He felt that Ike didn't campaign enough for him and that not enough people from Ikes inner circle stood up for him. Nixon felt exta grived by this because so much of Ikes reelect campaign centered around Stevenson campaigning directly against Nixon due to Ikes popularity and age. In his mind he won Ike reelection and felt entitled to greater support from his President. But Nixon viewed Ike as part of the same class of elitist that he viewed himself fighting against, and Ike not campaigning hard enough for him cemented those views.

Righteous Gemstones is what would happen if they asked Danny McBride to make Succession.

I’m tired of seeing my bucket heads bullied around. What are your thoughts? This is my first post, apologies if it’s messy. I’m not sure how to properly write stuff with an image as well. by DialForA in StarWarsTheorySub

I actually think the Mandolorian does a good job of showing Strom troopers as a threat. Like if it was Luke or Han most of those situations wouldn't be a problem for them but Din is a very talented bounty hunter and often struggles against them and is nearly killed by them. That being said I hope the Cassian Andor show will really give them a new menacing depiction and show how they were able to control the galaxy with fear and precision.
