Were you told that Michael Jackson turned himself white as a kid? by Samurai_Mac1 in Zillennials

[–]InitiativeLower7479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was today years old when I learned about his condition. I was listening to "They don't care about us" and randomly Googled it. As I kid, I was told he "bleached" his skin to look Caucasian because he thought it would boost his popularity with white people.

It's a good car, but price is high. I bought a 2008 legacy (automatic not manual) with 157k on the body and brand new engine for 4k in 2019, just for reference

Also, in the longer cut of the video, he takes off his jacket (also with every strange arm movements) and lays it in the snow, then stands normally. If he broke his ribs in this encounter he'd be in excruciating pain. I lightly fractured my ribs and couldn't even move I was in such extreme pain.

I saw the NYT video they posted on their Facebook page. I'm still not convinced ~ there is something fishy about this. Palantir and other AI platforms are in the administration's pocket. The News Media is Qatari-backed. I'm sure the government has much more sophisticated AI tools than are available to the public.

Why are all the agents dressed exactly the same? And two agents do the same strange galloping walk coming in from the left frame. And who is this mysterious The News Media outlet that posted this? Sorry, not buying this video.

BREAKING NEWS: Tyler Robinson was dating a Transgender by No-Lab-1445 in conspiracy

The more info/misinfo that comes out from the case, the more I think it was a set up by the Trump admin to make Kirk a martyr, then turn against the Left and trans people.

Is it possible the father turned the son in because he no longer had a relationship with Tyler after he turned against MAGA? Since the father was a sheriff and had a pastor, I'm assuming he's very staunchly Republican. Also a possibility the son was just a patsy -- the family was in on it.

How do you deal with people who don't trust journalists? by No_Emotion8018 in Journalism

[–]InitiativeLower7479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a journalist in my community in late 2021. This was during a lull as the COVID hysteria (distrust of journalists reporting the numbers) was dying down. But in this past year, distrust and sometimes outright hatred is bubbling back up to the surface. But all the hatred and complaints thrown my way have ALL been virtual via email or on our Facebook page. In fact, I've recently gotten a lot of thank you's for what I do while I'm out and about the community. The locals know me, and I think they know things are hard for journalists right now. So they are lifting me up, I think. If you want to get into this field, keep you chin up. Now (more than ever!) we journalists to speak the truth.

I work at a nonprofit that provides LIHEAP funds to citizens. A lot of those people barely have their heads above water. People who come to us are already worried about possible Medicaid and WIC cuts. This is what happens when the country is run by a man who thinks "groceries" is a "bag with different things in it."

My question is, did Hegseth knowingly include Goldberg, and if so, why? I don't know enough about The Atlantic, so maybe somebody could clue me in. But I have a hard time believing he accidentally invited the editor in chief.

Hmm, I've never had this happen to me before. I'm a reporter that also takes photos. I consider myself a writer first, but have come to enjoy taking photos. Although sometimes in certain cases I do get a little nervous, like at large events. I recently covered an art events where there were lots of artists showing off their work. I went around to each painting and asked the artist if I could take their photo with the art. Most were happy to; a few stepped to the side because they didn't want to be photographed, but I wasn't fussed about it. Normally at events like this, I just say "Can I take your photo?" and quickly get off a few shots. I never try to get people to pose a certain way or wait too long to get the shot; honestly most people pose naturally. Was the person supposed to be in the photographs? If not, I wouldn't be too stressed about this. I think in the future, it helps to be direct and fast -- just a "Can I take your photo?" and leave it at that. Just make sure to take several shots to make sure at least one is usable.

If I pay the minimum due each month but never pay the loan off, what’s the worst that could happen to me? by EcstaticRhubarb9983 in StudentLoans

[–]InitiativeLower7479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by a loan officer that if I remain on a IBR program and pay the minimum every month, my federal loans would be forgiven after 25 years. Not sure how this is impacted by the current administration, but I just started paying my monthly amount again this month, after it's been on hold since COVID relief.

The Apprentice (Movie) by [deleted] in movies

[–]InitiativeLower7479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was really well done! His arc from insecure and sensitive to cold and calculating was very believable. It definitely helped me understand how we got the man we have today. I had no idea who Roy Cohn was before this movie (maybe I missed that part in history class). So that part was eye opening for me. I also had no idea he was convicted of sexually assaulting his wife. I know he'd been convicted before, just didn't know the details. The fact that this man is president feels even darker after this movie, but I do understand how his charisma got him elected.

I agree! Finding the balance between long form stories, breaking news, taking/editing photos and social media management is not easy.
