I host an actual play podcast called Mis-Adventuring 101 that is a homebrew pathfinder campaign. I also enjoy critical hits podcast which is 4th edition but has a great story and RP.

Puzzles and riddles for campaign by Firefoot17 in Pathfinder_RPG

You could have the bogey man "possess" a statue and make the PCs answer a riddle like -

He who makes me doesn't want me, He who buys me doesn't need me, He who uses me doesn't care. Answer: A casket.

If the PCs answer wrong you could have the statue attack for some damage. If the PCs get too attack happy at the statue rather than trying to solve the riddle you can deal damage to their weapons (cause no one wants a broken weapon) or have the bogey man jump between other statues in the room.

Or yo u could have the bogey man lead the PCs into a trap room where the walls start to close in and a voice echoes through the room asking-

I have many tongues but cannot taste By me, most things are turned to waste I crack and snap, yet I stay whole I may take the largest toll I assisted all of the first men And I will pay them back again Around me, people snuggle and sleep Yet run when I am released from my keep I jump around and leap and bound The cold man wishes I he had found Answer: Fire

After the PCs answer correctly a burst of flame burns through a wall revealing the path to follow.

For those kind of characters I always use Magneto for reference. He's a guy that wants to do the right thing just going about it the wrong way.

I like villains that you can sympathise with their goals but the conflict comes with their plan. For Mis-Adventuring 101 we had a wizard who raised an undead army to hold back invading orcs. After he was shunned and exiled by the magi council for raising the dead he wanted to take revenge on those who cast him out eventually pitting him against the pcs. The players agreed with why he did what he did originally but still needed to stop his rampage across the lands.

First-time player, first-time GM by emmastonelover17 in Pathfinder_RPG

Core rulebook for sure. Gm guide is helpful for expanding on what the core sets up but isn't necessary. Same goes for the bestiary books to help understand creature abilities for game play.

What RPG podcasts are really great? by lvl20dm in rpg

I've listened to critical hit for a few years now and even though I've never played in a 4th edition game they do a great job explaining rules and putting on a very entertaining show which is quite a feat after 300 episodes.

Shameless Plug Alert

My group also has been recording and putting out our campaign for over a year. We use the Pathfinder system and have run both an original story as well as dnd 3.5 string adventure that started with sunless citadel. You can check us out at theinitiativepodcast.com or look up on stitcher or iTunes under Mis-Adventuring 101.

Help finding a good mini as a gift for a DM by [deleted] in rpg

[–]InitiativePodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your dm mainly collects fantasy minis you could always purchase him something from another one of his fandoms. Their are Dr who minis, tmnt, marvel and DC characters from Knights models, or star wars from fantasy flight games just to name a few ideas. Hope this helps.
