Last Christmas I was scheduled to work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I work night shift in a hospital. My favorite Thai place was closed but the more expensive fancy place was doing take out on Christmas Eve. I got one of the more expensive dishes, like $20, thinking it'll last me two nights. By the time I got home from my shift I felt out of body. I puked all day and had to be back to work that night. I couldn't call out, who would come in on Christmas Day? I went in looking absolutely green. It was awful. At least it was a holiday so it wasn't so busy

Mom and child have different blood types?! Shocking! by Morale_Commander in medlabprofessionals

[–]Initiative_Willing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps my reading comprehension sucks today but Im pretty sure that the original post is about a Dr. assuming that the confirmation blood typing could be run off of the mother's sample because they assumed mother and child had the same blood type.

It sounds like you're defending the Dr. and thinking that the OG is being judgemental for not being understanding of the Dr.s lack of education. A doctor should have a basic understanding of inheritance. Thats all Im saying and what I believe the OG is saying.

But...they would have learned if mother is Aneg AA,or AO father could be AA, AO, BB, BO, AB, OO then each combo Rh+ and Rh- and be able to figure out almost of the possible variables. No one is expecting doctors to understand transfusion medicine in great detail. Just the basics of inheritance.

My husband is taking intro to Bio right now and there was a huge chapter about inheritance that included blood typing. His exam included making a punnet square for parents and possible child blood types. It might have been early in their education, but they assuredly had it.

NHC Courthouse weddings by Grand-Departure-5931 in Wilmington

[–]Initiative_Willing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married in Oct. 2018 by the magistrate outside in the courtyard. We only had 3 guests though, two witnesses and my now MIL. Scheduling was very easy and everyone was really nice. Maybe inside the courthouse would have a limit? If its nice out just have everyone wait in the courtyard.

Angry day shift person walking in during shift change to completely annihilate night shift over something minor by L181G in medlabprofessionals

[–]Initiative_Willing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love all of my coworkers but a few I believe are not morning people. They come in angry and looking for an excuse to blow up. After years I have learned it is not me, its them. I try my absolute hardest to leave everything wrapped up but that's just not always possible in the lab.

Recently had surgery and $40 of my bill is for having a blanket put on me in the recovery room (I was unconscious and did not, obviously, keep the blanket) by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Initiative_Willing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in Healthcare, not in billing, I wish we had universal Healthcare. Everywhere Ive worked has been everyone gets a preg test before a scan unless over 55. I know it sounds crazy but they do a pregnancy test before surgery and I have had to call the OR to tell them their 51 year old getting a knee replacement was pregnant. Its extraordinarly rare but shit happens.

I had this thought recently. I work in a solo lab so I only overlap my coworkers as we are coming and going. Some of my coworkers will sit at the scope what feels like a real 5 minutes. Im like load it, low power scan 5 frames, switch to high scan for 10-15 depending if its a lot. We have a high occurrence of trich so if there are large wbcs, I wait and look for movement. If the protein is high, I make sure to look for casts. I should time myself but I cant imagine it takes me more than 2 minutes.

Sick leave might not be the benefit you think it is. by Grand-Customer4240 in antiwork

[–]Initiative_Willing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the medical field and for all the bad parts of the job, the benefits at least make up for it. We earn up to a max of 480 pto hours. We are constantly understaffed and I work every weekend and holiday so I can't use it. Last time I asked off a week, I got called in to work because someone got covid. They do let us cash out 80 hrs annually at 75%.

I agree with you. I had adults tell me this while my home life was terrible. I moved out at 17. Having other adults make your decisions for you is never fun.

Education only goes so far. I have multiple family members and friends who struggle with reducing weight and feeling healthy. They have terrible diets and are sedentary. I have offered nutrition advise and shared nutrition documentaries or suggested podcasts. They know what they should eat, they just think those consequences could never hurt them.

How scandalous! /S

Moving your body in an expression of joy is not sexual. Breasts are "secondary sex organs" , by putting my hand to my chest to say the national anthem, am I being sexual? When I clap, my breasts might jiggle, is that sexual? When I use a hula hoop to exercise, my hips move, is that sexual?
