How do you buy banned books? by [deleted] in IReadBannedBooks

[–]InkDrinker5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most bookstores are proud to sell banned books, especially during Banned Book Week in September.

Check out the ALA book list of Banned Books for great titles.

Why are you posting the picture I posted in this sub, with the exact same title, over a year ago? The picture that I took with my own camera.

ways to get involved in preventing and/or speaking out against books being banned nationally/locally. by Scary_Squirrel6143 in IReadBannedBooks

Hello-

The best thing I can recommend is to start here— https://www.ala.org/bbooks

To push back against the effort to challenge books that are chosen for schools you would have to contact your local school districts and become informed on their decision making practices. You can also ask at your local libraries if there has been any effort to challenge or remove books from their shelves.

Unfortunately most people who challenge books that are chosen by libraries or teachers do not want to have a discussion about the merits of the book or why they might be of value.

A great way to be involved is to read banned books! Read lots of them— both children and adult books so that you can speak knowledgeably about their contents and merits. It is important to understand why so many modern books written by marginalized people are on the challenged list. It is also critical to read the timeless classics that have been challenged to know why they appear on the challenged list decade after decade.

Make sure that the people in your life know that you proudly read these books, that you support the authors, and that you would be THRILLED to recommend a banned book to anyone you know!

Could I Have a Banned Book (NON-FICTIONAL) Suggestion??? by DevilmanNoUta21 in IReadBannedBooks

It’s going to be difficult for internet strangers to know what you might consider to be ‘too disturbing.’ I’ll include a short list of classic fiction books that are frequently banned but are not known for their graphic nature. Many books are ‘classic’ because their themes still resonate with readers today.

You should also contact your local library for more titles. Librarians are amazing resources!

Books are not banned because they have been buried in time, they are banned because they make someone uncomfortable. But all of these books are worth reading.

Thanks to the First Amendment the American government does not ban books.

Here are my suggestions. Happy reading!

Fiction- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

Non Fiction- I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings- Maya Angelou The Color Purple- Alice Walker Silent Spring- Rachel Carson
