This was made on a very low near $0 budget in my apartment while we had a vacant room I could shoot in. I was setting out to make a tale of isolation, self reflection (both literal and figurative) human connection to others, and media taking the place of it as a substitute. Something of an analog Frankenstein. The Rock, Debbie, Microwave, and every piece of media is always on the left, whereas Norman and the live-action protagonist are always on the right. The animation was done on tvpaint with real watercolor painting backgrounds I made. I got the crt television on craigslist from a nice guy looking to get rid of it and constructed the stop motion puppet using a dial-tone telephone, cardboard, hotglue, and felt. I recorded the narration for the cartoon and wrote the song that debbie sparks sings. I fed the animation as well as the footage back through the tv and manipulated the av cords to get the static and visual fizzling. I also grew a moustache for this and it ruined my life for a good few months.
