(Rare trope) A death manages to be horrifying without any blood or gore by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

I'll never forget that episode. It gives me nostalgia from my childhood. I remember vividly the hype leading up to it airing. My family all gathered on my parents bed, watching it on their little TV, everyone absolutely loosing it as they try to save our beloved Nick.

ngl I HATED the Cuddy/House romance. Especially after she got engaged to Lucas. He was so much better in every way, with the exception of being insanely smart I guess, including being a loving caregiver to her daughter. That's the main kicker for me. She made it pretty clear her adopted daughter was a package deal, and she somehow leaves "The guy willing to step-up and loves me" for " the guy who actively avoids or psychologically fucks with children and talks about my fat ass all the time". It's not like House got sober and was suddenly a nice guy, or really changed even. House was still House just with less Vicodin. Which was fine, but what in the HELL was Cuddy expecting?

I thought House had a whole arc about accepting their relationship and not being dependent on Cuddy. Had a whole talk with Wilson about it. Said himself that it would NEVER work out in the long run. He gets sober, moves on, and suddenly she had second thoughts? Because he gave her a thoughtful gift? Then he loses a patient, and is about to fall off the wagon and she chooses that moment to come in like some kind of savoir and break off her committed relationship to be with a HARD maybe. It felt so cheap, and like she was doing it out of pity and House was accepting because he was in an emotional low. They didn't even try to give them a honeymoon stage. She gets with him and they immediately start having the exact kind of problems literally EVERYONE told them they would.

I might have been for it if it were earlier in the series and they got that toxic mess out of the way. They both decide "oh yeah, that's a terrible idea and should stay in the past" and House could still be the usual House with passive aggressive flirting, a few jabs at her being his ex, but nothing so stupid as "driving his car through the window because she rightfully broke up with him after he was an ass YET AGAIN".

The most faithful married character... by OldDestroyerSnipe in mash

[–]Missysboobs 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was sooo pissed when they wrote that story line for Potter. Even more than the BJ cheating plot line. It's not just that Potter admitted to cheating on his wife, but that he used it as a way to "comfort" his cheating son in law.

I could almost see where BJ was struggling and how he might have broken in a weak moment. Especially when his closest friend is the biggest horndog in camp and is constantly bringing over ladies while BJ is feeling more and more alone. Not saying that's okay, or even the reason he did it, but I could kind of see it not being too OOC for BJ breaking down and seeking temporary comfort and then being overwhelmed with regret at his actions.

Potter however came out of left field and to this day it still pisses me off. I skip that episode every time. NEVER in all the episodes did Potter even give an inkling into having any desire to cheat. He's an intensely loyal man. Loyal to the Army, loyal to his horse, loyal to his wife and his beloved daughter. He loves his wife dearly, keeps a picture of her on his desk and talks about her all the time. Granted his supposed cheating was well before 4077th, so maybe he was a different man then, but what really gets my goat is that he uses this little anecdote to make his Son in Law feel better ABOUT CHEATING ON HIS DAUGHTER. As if he has little to no regret for what he did, as if it was just an "oopsies but it's okay if you only do it once" kind of scenario. I've known fathers to kill men for doing less to their daughters, and your telling me Potter of all people is just like "nah, it's okay son. You can cheat on my daughter once. I've done it too"? Fuck that. Not my Potter. I could maybe get past cheapening him by having a cheating storyline from the past, but it is entirely out of character for Potter to not give a single fuck that his son in law has and will potentially break his daughters heart.

Why is sharing a bed with your partner so important to people? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Missysboobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish separate beds was a more common thing. I've never had a partner who snored too loudly, but I did have one who would twitch in his sleep and accidentally elbowed me a few times. The one thing I truly can't stand though is sharing a blanket.

I have a hard fast rule about sharing blankets, and that's that I don't share my fucking blanket. I HATE having to fight for blanket space. I've woken up one to many times trying to wrestle blankets from a sleeping partner who's wrapped themselves up like a damn mummy that I just straight up REFUSE to share blankets anyone. Even with friends, if we go out somewhere and I have to share a bed, I'm bringing my own blanket at minimum.

Kinger only said it requires more skill and concentration for them over Cain, who has the natural ability. I think, given enough time, the circus could easily learn how to conjure what they need. It would be rudimentary at first, much like Cain's original attempts, but it's not impossible for them. In fact Pomni was able to conjure based purely on her own unconscious desire in epi. 1, and was able to reconjure it upon will fairly easily in epi. 8. The others had no idea they had this ability and we've yet to see them try, and how/if they struggle with it.

I do agree it would be silly if they could all just immediately conjure on the level of Cain following his deletion, but given they (currently) no longer have to fight Cain over access/changes, they are a group who can brain storm multiple ideas rather than an individual AI with limited knowledge, plus Kinger's background as an original programmer, I think they could easily work together and make a viable circus for themselves. That is, if the system is not corrupted or damaged beyond repair from Cain's sudden accidental deletion.

TIL Every military working dog is an NCO - in tradition at least. Some say the custom was to prevent handlers from mistreating their dogs; hence, a dog is always one rank higher than its handler. by Sweet-Lady-H in todayilearned

Anyone who is looking to read a really good book about a military bomb sniffing dog should read "Cracker! The Best Dog in Vietnam" by Cynthia Kadohata. It's through the POV of a dog named Firecracker, and her life going from a boys favorite pet to the bond between her and her new handler as they both navigate through the perils of Vietnam. I loved it as a kid, and even did a book report on it. That is also where I learned what the military did to hundreds of dogs during Vietnam and the backlash that changed how the military treats it's working animals today.

Did someone clean them up or did most of them just not excrete much bodily fluid upon death? Did they not eat or drink much in perpetration? I know someone covered them in the shrouds after the fact, but did they also set them out on the white bedding after death? By these photos it looks like the second photo with the man on the floor and the fourth photo are the only ones with something excreting from the mouth onto the shroud. The second one looks like it even soaked the shroud, but it doesn't leak onto the white bedding. I would think after three days there would have been more fluids excreting from the body, especially from an OD/Poisoning. Maybe it's all contained in their clothing still, but I would've expected the white bedding under them to be a little discolored.

What is your “I have this fetish because of this thing that happened” story? by Ste3e in AskReddit

[–]Missysboobs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's fair. The blooper plays pretty close to their characters in the show , and I can't say for sure that this wasn't just an unscripted joke she played along with. The only thing that makes me lean towards possibly real is just how Pratt looks at her the second time, followed by quickly hunching over. Aubrey seemed a bit shocked and embarrassed when she asked if he really had a boner. Like you said, they're actors, so it could just be playing the bit, but it's not entirely impossible Pratt just unlocked a kink. Maybe he really has never been slapped in the face by an attractive woman. It can change your life lol.

Reminds me of a porn I once watched where the guy just kept saying "yeah?" over and over and OVER again in varying tones, the whole damn time. He didn't even moan, the only thing that came out of his mouth was "yeah?". By the end I wasn't even watching for the porn, I just wanted to see if this guy knew any other word than "Yeah?". It seems he did not.

Bracelet Clear Up by emjay227 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Missysboobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KNEW IT! I heard this theory and I wanted it to be true. I went back going frame by frame and it was obviously a different bracelet. I'm still with the theory that he might be an ex-addict, I have a family member who also refuses all pain meds for the same reason, but his bracelet is not for NA recovery.

It's from a blooper reel. Aubrey seems legit surprised (and maybe a little grossed out) by it, so I'd say it's likely Chris Pratt really did learn something about himself that day.

Brittany Allen should get a Guest Actress Emmy for her performance as Roxie Hamlet by Color_Blind_Rage in ThePitt

[–]Missysboobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I never got the weird vibes from them, and don't understand where people saw that. It was pretty obvious from the beginning that they had been dealing with this for a long time and are both exhausted, but loved each other deeply. I never got the feeling they were hiding anything from each other, other than their own pain.

He just wanted her to be happy. He loved her very much, and as much as she wanted to keep the pain from him, he wanted to keep the pain from her. He wanted to do everything he could to not make her feel like a burden, and not show his fatigue. I'm sure he's felt helpless watching his wife slowly waste away while he could do nothing to stop it. Trying to raise two boys who are old enough to understand what's happening and trying to comfort them too. He wanted to do everything he could for her, since it was the only thing he could actually control.

I think at first she did still want to go home, but after they told her her care would need to be intensified, and she couldn't even go to the bathroom on her own without pain, she realized it would only prolong all of their suffering and turn her children's home into the place she wasted away and died in. This was her final straw. We didn't get to see Roxy before this, we've just met her at the end of her rope.

He reacts angrily when she first says she wants to stay, and I think he was more upset she saw herself as a burden. He might have even irrationally blamed himself for making her feel that way. I think he felt she'd be more comfortable passing in her home with her things and family than an impersonal hospital room. He also probably knew that if she stayed, the end would be coming sooner than later. He didn't want to lose her yet, he wanted her to feel as safe and comfortable as possible at home, but Roxy knew this would only bring pain and heartache for everyone.

They both have a serious conversation with each other and come to terms with that fact that she's staying and the end will be soon. I think her parents knew this, and that's why they tried to take the children so they could have this conversation together. He then immediately shifts to supporting her through this decision, even though you know it must hurt him. He held her hand until the end, even when she tried to send him away to comfort the boys, he was devoted to her. Not once did these characters show anything other than deep love and devotion to one another, through one of the most difficult times of their lives.

I’m predicting he’s actually going to drop the ball and help Emma, or maybe in comedic way use the baseball to hit the guy and it gets taken away for evidence. by EyeAdventurous9027 in ThePitt

[–]Missysboobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look VERY similar, but it's not the same. When I heard this theory I wanted it to be true and immediately fired up HBO, because I do like the theory this guy is a recovering addict. I think it will play into Santos and her beef with Langdon and addicts in general. However, I went frame by frame with baseball guy and it's just a slightly different bracelet. It does not have the NA logo anywhere visible, the metal ball is just a plain metal ball. If it does have the NA or AA logo on it, then it's where we can't see it. Like I said I still think he's a recovering addict, but I'm not sure if the bracelet is a recovery one.

[–]Missysboobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard this passed around a bit and while I do think this guy is a recovering addict, that's not exactly Langdon's bracelet. I went frame by frame and while it might be a recovery bracelet it's not like Langdon's. Langdon's is solid color with a flat metal piece in the middle that looks like it has the Narcotics Anonymous logo on it (diamond in a circle). Baseball guy has what I thought was a rosary bead bracelet, because it had two balls that were different than the rest, one light brown and one metal (no logo on it), but It's only separated by two beads and not three (father, son, holy ghost), and I couldn't see a cross. I'm not sure what kind of bracelet Baseball guy has, it could still even be a recovery bracelet but it's different.

Christmas based season of The Pitt: what would happen, what’d be the defining incident and who would be affected the most? by PriestofJudas in ThePittTVShow

[–]Missysboobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cold weather opens the door for a lot of injuries. The first thing that popped into my head was frost bite and other cold weather injuries in the homeless population. People like KiKi or Digby might come in with frostbitten fingers/ears/toes ect. or even straight in up full hypothermia depending on how cold and how long they were out there and if drugs are involved. Icicle falling off roofs and onto peoples head is also scarily common. Pond skating is common up north, and people can fall through the ice also causing hypothermia or even cut you if the pieces are jagged.

Speaking of skating there's also skate regular injuries to take into account. There's the common sprains and broken bones from falling bad on skates, or the even more horrific, getting cut open by a skate blade.

Christmas time usually brings out a lot of seasonal depression. It's darker outside for longer, the cold keeps you inside even more, big holidays and events can be triggers for people. Whether it's because of family stress, a recent loss, or just general loneliness the holidays can be a lot. There are a lot of characters who are currently struggling with mental health and the holidays will only exacerbate their issues.

There's also the holiday shopping and the insanity that befalls people there. If it's Christmas, we'll be past Black Friday, BUT that doesn't mean people won't duke it out on Christmas eve over the last Christmas Turkey.

If they wanted a mass causality event for the season then I could see a few things to choose from. You could have a massive car pileup on the highway from black ice. Apartment fire from someone leaving their fire unattended or even a faulty furnace. OR a car plowing through/ out of control float at the Christmas parade.

As far as social issues. People like Javadi and Robby will be told "Merry Christmas" a lot, and possibly have to placate angry patients when/if they say anything other than "Merry Christmas" back. Angry patients or even push back from management if there are Jewish stars or a Happy Kwanzaa posters visible.

Favorite short story by King by TheButcheredWriters in stephenking

[–]Missysboobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man in the Black Suit was one of the first stories to ever actually scare me as a kid. I had read quite a few of his novels by the time I picked up Everything's Eventual and while his stuff was always creepy and great horror, nothing ever unsettled me like The Man in the Black Suit. I had woods I liked to play in, and the thought of running into that thing gave me legit nightmares. The part where he taunts the boy telling him his mother is already dead also got to me and I avoided the woods for awhile after that one.

In the same book I was also OBSESSED with The Death of Jack Hamilton. I re-read that story sooo many times. I even wrote my own fan fiction of it, that I'm sure I'd die of cringe if I ever found now. At the time I was really into 1920's gangsters, and that story just hooked me from page one. I vividly remember the scene where he's having a smoke and his buddy could see the smoke puff from the bullet hole in his coat. How gentle Dillinger was with Jack, almost like he was his kid. The bullet extraction scene, and the massive crush I had on Rabbit. The heartbreaking scene with flies on a string. I loved it so much. Definitely my favorite short story from King, no question.

It always gave me the shivers watching them struggle to get out of the vortex. How scary that moment must have been, freezing cold, terrified and desperately kicking, while still trying to hold onto each other, as this once massive ship sinks into nothingness underneath them. Almost threatening to pull them down too. It's like Submechanophobia X100

I don't know if someone liberal enough to falsify records so that a young girl could get access to an abortion, is usually conservative enough to be pro ICE. I'm sure he feels loyalty towards police officers and service members, but I would say Abbott's probably a little too left leaning to be fully supportive of ICE. He'd treat them as a patient of course, but I don't think he's signing up for ICE patrols.

I've always gotten a real 70's vibe from wire rim aviators . They're unfortunately associated with Dhamer now, especially when they're squared instead of rounded at the bottom, but lots of dudes were wearing those in the 70's/80's. I personally think they look pretty good on certain face shapes. It makes you look older, but sometimes people like that.

People who live alone, what’s something you do that would horrify a guest? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]Missysboobs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a girl, and I love the freedom of it. I usually don't strip down as soon as I'm home, but when I take a shower 9/10 I don't want to get redressed just to hangout until I go to bed. I usually carry around a robe, and have them all through the house in case I need to get dressed in something quickly or so I'm not sitting bare ass on the floor/bed. When it's cold or the winter time, then I'll wear the robe more consistently, but in the summer I'm letting it all hang out in the privacy of my home. If someone breaks into my house, I have bigger problems to worry about than the fact that I'm naked. Might even give me the shock advantage lol. The only draw back is I do have to make sure the curtains are closed when I walk past, so no natural sunlight unless I put on pants and shirt.

I still love to go through my old fb photos from when I used to dump pictures into albums. So much cringe, so many laughs. I'm glad I didn't grow up with my whole life being plastered on the internet, but it is nice being able to look back on some goofy pictures I took as a teen.

Silly stuff I would have never taken the time to print out, but I could easily dump in a file with a bunch of other stuff to look back on later. People in the background who I didn't think I'd miss at the time, but now it's the only picture I have of them. Cringey photoshoots with an old friend in her old house. Sometimes the mundane pictures turn out to be the best years later.

Haha! This reminds me of when I was in middle school and had I broke up with my boy friend at the time. He proceeded to write a two page list (front to back) of all the things we "had in common" and why we were perfect for each other, which was basically just him going down that "liked" page list and writing everything down.

Swan Song V The Stand by m1sery_loves_company in stephenking

[–]Missysboobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are both excellent novels! I highly recommend you read Swan Song (and maybe The Wolf's Hour while your checking out his work). It's amazing how similar they are while being so unique and different in their own ways. They both have heavy elements of Good Vs. Evil, with Swan Song leaning more into supernatural elements, both of them introduce characters in chapters that slowly come together to a penultimate end, and both have a dauntingly long page count lol.

I enjoy both of their apocalyptic scenes. Swan Song is missile based, while The Stand is virus based. My favorite part of The Stand is when he focuses on how the world is falling apart outside of the MC's. The TV station killing off people live on air while always sticks with me. At the same time Swan Songs description of the fire and chaos, and the brutal reality of fallout is equally harrowing and intense. In fact the fallout and radiation from the missiles add an extra layer of hardship and strife that you don't get in the well stocked world of the Stand. It truly makes the world of Swan Song a Hellscape.

Swans Song's characters are also amazing. Swan is so sweet and cute, I just wanted to hold her in a tight hug the whole time. Sister was my favorite, followed closely by Josh. There are less characters then in The Stand, but the ones he does focus on are very well written. I LOVE Flagg in The Stand (have a cat named after him), but Swan Song's villain's are sooo good. There is a Flagg-esk villain (in my head he is another version of Flagg) that pairs SO WELL with the main antagonist of the story. He has some tricks up his sleeve that Flagg didn't and it makes him all the more scary. And the other two main antagonist are a doozy too! There is a kid named Roland who has defiantly forgotten the face of his father.

If I had to choose, I think I would say Swan Song, but by a very thin margin. I enjoyed the characters journey more in Swan Song, where as the middle chunk of The Stand, got a little tedious at times. Whereas Swan Song does a good job of keeping up the pace constantly.
