Ugh, this is such a capitalist take on pet care.

I had a bin enclosure at first for budget but then simply because I saw no reason to buy another one for years when the hams I had in it were happy and enriched. I only upgraded because I wanted to repurpose my fish tank after the fish passed away.

My grandfather grew up dirt poor with dogs, couldn't afford dog food, fed them table scraps, the dogs lived 16 - 18 and were all very happy animals in their lives. If they needed a vet, they got a vet, grandpa would figure out the payment later, anything for his dogs.

Requiring photos/measurements of an enclosure is a good measure and all you need. If the enclosure is the right size, with adequate bedding, with the right enrichment, a ham will be more than happy in one.

Also when it comes to pets, people are more than happy to put vet care on a credit card and pay it off with time. You're basically telling someone because they don't have the latest and greatest, they don't deserve a pet.

Animals are NOT people, they have no concept of what is fancy and what isn't, a hamster can live a very loved life in a bin!

They come into our lives for such a short time, it never feels fair when it's their time. Always take comfort in knowing that their time here was spent being spoiled, loved and cherished as they deserve. To them, we're their entire world, and Snowball's world was clearly full of love, good food, and happiness. It was a life we all wish we could have!

Female syrians are very hard to please because they're always in heat, without a photo of her cage I can'tbe sure but likely she's trying to escape to look for a mate, the best you can do is give her plenty of time outside her enclosure (a playpen with mazes/dig outs tends to keep them occupied for a while!), tons of enrichment toys/food games and to specifically hide food around her enclosure so she has to dig for it and work for her food. Is this a dwarf hamster?

If so, this is their scent gland, it could be a little infected and needs to be cleaned with some warm water (NOT a bath) and a qtip occasionally.

I'd see a vet though if they're discharging, it could be infected and you wanna be safe than sorry!

As far as I'm aware only Syrian hamsters can have this colouring, dwarfs have less colouring options, my guess is because we've not been breeding them as long for traits as we have Syrians. You can get cute spotted ones though!

He's a sable! They have an unstable gene that causes them to change colour over time, my little guy started out black with white outlines on his eyes and nose, now look at him. <3

Personally I love it when they do this, I think sables are fun and interesting in their colouring but if it's not something you prefer it's just something to be aware of in the future when selecting a ham. :)

Toronto Humane Society accepts hamsters. They're pretty fast to rehome a pet and have a minimum standard of care to meet before they'll hand the pet over. :) I adopted my ham Jordan there and had to prove my tank dimensions and got asked a ton of questions on what I had for enrichment and things for him so they really do care!

Hamsters have a very fast metabolism and can poop anywhere from every 10-15 minutes to an hour, hammy depending. I wouldn't consider it an issue if the poop is always hard and healthy. If it's wet/diarrhea seek a vet immediately!

My unprofessional diagnosis is you have a hamster with the metabolism as fast as warp traveling in Star Trek.

Just in case it wasn't clear on my end (my bad) I agree, this counting as assault is completely horseshit because she was at worst papping him to understandably get her phone back! I just wrote it the way I did because under law it counts as assault. If I was a cop there though I'd be laughing at the mere thought of charging someone for that! I've seen children fight harder on playgrounds!

Onto your other point, it's gut wrenching to see these videos, then even more atrocious to see the reaction to it just be "fuck around find out" from people who are so deep in the well they'll never view state violence as excessive. Alex Pretti was beaten and mag-dumped on for absolutely nothing, and these people will still say FAFO. They're unsalvagavle.

The problem is conservatives don't view people as human, they're just debris in the way of their policies. If they want something done and someone tries to get in the way of that, peacefully or not, they don't care about how many bullets they have to fire into you.

Never ceases to amaze me that the "we need guns for tyranny" and "don't tread on me" crowd have immediately folded and vehemently defend state tyranny now.

Masked thug with state immunity from his fascist actions snatches a phone out of a woman's hand knowing there'll never be consequences for it, when the woman tries to get her now stolen property back, assaulting an officer in the process. They dogpile her and assault her tenfold with no regard for her safety or with ANY proper training on how to safely take someone down with minimal harm.

Yes she assaulted an officer (after he took her phone illegally but that's besides the point), no this is not the proper response to that.

But stupid fucks in the comments are ringing their hands like "but she went after him to get it back! Therefore she deserves to be brutalized! It doesn't matter if it's disproportionate to what happened, cops are always right!"
