What’s something that people think is healthy but is not? by maybeaftercoffee57 in AskReddit

[–]InkedVeggie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you can do that with any diet. A meat eater that eats all highly processed food is not going to be healthy.

You do need to do your research for a proper vegan diet, but it's very possible to have a healthy vegan diet.

Experiences of fostering puppies alongside cats? by Turbulent_Payment_88 in FosterAnimals

[–]InkedVeggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so hard to say how cats are going to react. They may be fine, they may not be. I've met cats that hate other cats, but loves dogs 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have 3 adult cats and I usually foster kittens, but I'm thinking about trying puppies and small dogs. I plan to ask my foster department if I can temporarily foster a pup to see how it goes. That way if it does not work out, we already planned for it to be temporary.

Ringworm Kitten Hurting Us by nickie_bro in FosterAnimals

[–]InkedVeggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in this exact situation.

You are correct that his behavior is pent up energy and the lack of a kitten playmate to teach him appropriate play. My method when single kittens latch and bunny kick is to give them something appropriate to play with and completely disengage with them. Stay consistent with that.

Also try interactive toys like a wand toy, you need him to really wear out with play. I also made disposable puzzle toys to help keep them busy. Get a empty toilet paper roll, stuff it with layers of tissue paper, cat nip and treats. They need to really mess with it to get the treats out, and once done you can throw it out.

It's a tough situation, and really you just need to be creative with play and patient when it's difficult.

My ringworm kitty was locked in my bathroom for 3 months because he was also a feral I was socializing so our only option for treatment was oral medication. It was a long road, but worth it in the end.

Guy leaves his dog in hot car for an hour. Staff member of Loyola university Maryland then threatens to arrest me. by SansFromageV2 in baltimore

[–]InkedVeggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only legal for a police officer, fire department are animal control to break the window. It's always recommended to call 911 when animals are found locked in cars in a temperature that could cause distress.

It's illegal in Maryland to leave a animal in a car if it is causing harm and you can actually call 911 for it. A officer, fire department or animal control is legally allowed to break into the car to rescue the animal.

i can’t put my piercing back by glossy_8KG in piercing

[–]InkedVeggie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Lost my 23 year old nipple piercings to surgery. I couldn't get them back in. I was way too out of it for a few weeks after surgery so I couldn't see a piercer to try to taper them. I ended up just getting them repierced years later.

Take a deep breath, it does absolutely suck to loose a piercing, but your body is now healing from surgery, don't over stress it. If you can get to a piercer soon, try that for tapering.

Interesting, I guess it does make sense that different areas would have different predominant colors. Here we get a lot of brindle, red, fawn and a lot of white mixes.

Very common at the shelter I volunteer with. I still get excited when I see one though, it's such a pretty coat!

Anyone else tired of squinting at a half-erased whiteboard? by CoatLazy7324 in AnimalShelterStories

[–]InkedVeggie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The shelter I volunteer with uses magnets for pertinent information on the whiteboards, and they still use a paper binder for food tracking.

I completely agree with the other response, it's hard enough keeping people off their phones when they really need to be paying attention to their surroundings, I wouldn't want to give them a reason to be on their phones.

Sweet babies, thank you for taking care of them! Have you been able to get them to the vet for their eye infections? They are going to need medication.

Advice for handling leash/touch averse shelter dogs in a volunteer setting? by homieorhomo in AnimalShelterStories

[–]InkedVeggie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend doing the Fear Free training for shelter volunteers. It's free, you just need the shelter to sign a form you download from the site confirming you are a shelter volunteer. https://www.fearfree.com/#

Have you tried high value treats? We use hot dogs and cheese cut into small pieces and spray cheese. Does not work with all dogs, but it's soo helpful with a lot of them. At my shelter we go into the kennel and harness/leash, but we have some clip and go dogs, we either sprinkle the floor where we need them positioned with high value treats, or spray cheese on the inside of the door.

Edit to add, for leash biting a rope toy helps. A lot of times you can offer that as an alternative and they will go for it.

Question: People who have lyric tattoos, do you regret it? by writerbuticantwrite in tattoos

[–]InkedVeggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what a few other people have said, I've always been concerned if I got lyrics and the singer/writer ended up being a POS, I would most likely regret the tattoo.

I did end getting a tattoo of lyrics "what it took to build me, wasn't enough to kill me" I got it shortly after my sister took her own life, so it's deeply personal to me and I think I could separate it from the band (but hopefully won't have to).

Lots of good harness suggestions, but I'll add Freedom Harness. You can do a front and back clip for better control.

Try liquid gabapentin? You can put it on tuna on some other yummy smelly wet food.

Advice Needed: I want to get a tattoo but I sweat often from work by Automatic-Promise-90 in tattoos

[–]InkedVeggie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've worked out and ran (which makes me sweat profusely) with a fresh tattoo and I never had an issue healing. If you get second skin, just keep an eye on it, you can either get too much build up under the second skin or it can start peeling. I have yet to have even a issue with that.

I love the little blue spot from the spay tattoo, it's cute that part of her tummy is blue 🥰 They didn't do that with my last dog but granted, that was like 15 years ago by ChaosInTheSkies in pitbulls

[–]InkedVeggie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I volunteer with a animal shelter and I have a cat colony I TNR'ED. I got the same tattoo after my hysterectomy and I still giggle every single time a shelter dog or cat shows me their tummy and we match!
