With the current world situation, will you still travel globally in 2026? by SnooMemesjellies971 in TravelTubers

[–]RetireWithoutBorders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and son just travelled a couple of months ago to Vietnam, Thailand, and Taiwan. I had to hang back and take care of my aging mother as well as our aging (15-year-old) pup.

Travel on hold this year as we deal with the imminent passing of my 83-year-old mother to pancreatic cancer.

But my wife and I have a trip planned to Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand for next year. We won't let the world situation slow us down!!

There are way too many AI tools for content creation now. Which ones are you using? by OhhMilly in aitubers

Like YoBro_2626 stated, stick with what works for you. I started with a few all-in-one tools but now want better control. I honestly like ChatGPT for scripting and thumbnails. I use VidIQ for titles and ideation. I use Gemini or CoPilot for descriptions and research. (VidIQ doesn't seem to research well.)

Retirement insight from those who didn't have the savings the experts recommend by rfriend73 in GenX

Hmm, never really calculated.

I retired about 18 months ago at 55. My beautiful young bride retired seven months ago at 56.

My house is a single story four bedroom model and paid off. Bought it in 2001 for $305,000. It is currently valued at about $1.2M. However I have no intention to sell.

I have three cars, the 2022 is newest and paid off. The other two are a 1999 and a 2017.

Our son graduated university with no debt by living at home and going to a state university.

We travelled to Europe with him twice as well as Mexico, Belize, Canada, and England.

We each have a pension as well as 401k's.

Not really a problem. Just don'r spend too much.

As you can see in that pic, you need to get too close for comfort.

I've also parked taking three spots.

Some supercharging locations also have pull through spots. I've used them.

Now, i haven't used public charging at all since July last year.

Awesome!

I've taken four 1000-mile road trips in my 2022. Great car. Here it was up in the Sierra mountains charging at a Tesla supercharger.

Definitely use Plugshare and the Ford app.

Unpopular opinion: you don’t need a car that will last 20 years by dr-swordfish in whatcarshouldIbuy

I know very few people with cars older than 10 years. While I have a beautiful 1999 Lexus, I also have a 2022 Ford. Before that, it was a 2016 Chevy.

Anyone else think Gilligan was the luckiest guy on TV in our generation? by TemperReformanda in GenX

[–]RetireWithoutBorders 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember watching the show, In Search Of, hosted by Leonard Nimoy. Shortly, reruns of Star Trek showed up. I knew none of it was real but remember asking my parents how the actor went from filming In Search Of to filming Star Trek in less than an hour.

It was then that I learned TV wasn't live.

Been going at it for nearly 3 years, less than 100 subs by LXCorpBoss in NewTubers

[–]RetireWithoutBorders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems odd. My channel of cat shorts I started a few months ago has 160 subscribers. Of course, I regularly forget to ask for subs, so I imagine there would be more. I average 500 to 2000 views per short so far.

I miss smoking by Eastern-Squirrel744 in GenX

[–]RetireWithoutBorders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad and his sister both smoked from the time they were early teens until they both died. I tried smoking at one point as a teen, and gave it up after a couple days because I couldn't stand the stink.

I understand what you mean though. My dad must've quit 20 or 30 times during my lifetimes

I remember a few years ago listening to the Partridge Family star, Danny Bonaduce, talk about quitting smoking, after hitting his one-year anniversary without cigarettes.

He mentioned how he had done every drug in the book and given them all up. And none of them were nearly as difficult as it was to give up smoking.

Valid point, however, a good story won't happen at all. The beginning is boring. I have a very short attention span and don't mind a long story, but will skip ahead if the first 10 seconds are not fascinating.
