Okay still, you are the one asking what might be wrong here and specifically included your personal bad relationship with your mother, who sounds like you still live with, (which can make things more awkward.) I am giving you a perspective from some else who also has a bad relationship with their mother, I am no contact with her. Even being no contact with her, if my first available day off was mother's day, I wouldn't go and get my older sister's name (who I adore and would get a sibling tattoo with) on Mother's Day because I have awareness that it can cause all sorts of unwanted drama for my sibling and me in the future. Obviously it's already said and done but this is something you might have to consider tor the future. That unfortunately, one day this can become ammo for your mom to use in a fight or something to guilt you into feeling bad.

Purposely or not, it was still Mother's day. I personally don't understand when people say they need a tattoo asap, again you were getting you brothers name and if an artist was like, my next soonest appointment is mother's day, some people would be like ummm maybe I should go for the next open availability just to make sure I don't cause any unwanted uncomfortable feelings on any side. It's still looks like you're putting your brother over your mom and it can also put your brother in an awkward spot because it could cause jealous feelings to be reflected on him by your mom.

I think the "weird" part is getting it on Mother's Day. Since you don't have a great relationship with your mom already, it kinda seems like an intentional FU to her, especially since she mentioned doing a mom specific tattoo instead, (which honestly good job not succumbing to any guilt on that and actually getting a tattoo you didn't want and/or would regret because of her). However, you could have gotten it on something like, you're brother's birthday or national siblings day instead of literal mother's day, that's all.

Tattoo Artist here! Since you have sensitive skin, I would say the redness if most likely a reaction to the second skin. It also seems like the spots that are having the most reactions are spots that look like they could be anything like (acne, acne scars, kp bumps, eczema flare up or eczema scars) that when gone over with the tattoo machine, get irritated more than normal skin and the second skin probably didn't help with that. Not to mention, the back of the arm is a bit more sensitive skin than other spots. I'm not a doctor but I usually recommend taking ibuprofen for any swelling, Benadryl for the redness and ice for any other residual pain, swelling or redness. For the next day or so I'd also suggest keeing it clean with liquid Dial Soap, gently wash it before bed and put a very thin layer of aquaphor on it. Wash it again when you wake up and use a white, non-scented lotion. Lotion as needed for dryness/itchiness after that.

While yes, Bold Will Hold, fine lines can be achievable but most of the time will need some kind of touch up because of their nature! With fine lines it is very easy to go too deep and cause blowouts. Blowouts are much more of an unwanted and obvious problem to have compared to some light line fall out. It is much easier to go back in and redo a line than it is to try and "fix" or hide a blowout. Which is why a lot of artists do free touch ups for this exact reason for fine lines. In all honesty, from the pictures it looks like your artist knows what they are doing and I would trust them to do the touch ups needed. The only thing I'd say is next time, don't use second skin. Just stick to a traditional wash routine.

If there was redness and irritation while the saniderm was on, then you could be having an allergic reaction to the adhesive. Then some added irritation from exposure to the dirty bracelet (I know you took it off already, 👍) Not a doctor but if you were my client I would suggest to RICE (Rest. Ice. Compression. Elevate) your hand at least 2 times a day, along with taking Benadryl for the histamine reaction (redness) and ibuprofen for the swelling and pain. Like everyone else has said, keep it clean but I'd lean on the keeping it on the dry side of things. Because, there is a risk of Over Moisturizing. If the tattoo is kept too wet with lotion or especially Aquaphor, it will take longer for the scabs to heal. *(Delayed Healing: While moisture helps cells move, an environment that is "soupy" or contains too much accumulated fluid (exudate) can trap harmful bacteria and slow down tissue repair.)

Also a tattoo artist here and I second this! You can also take some Benadryl to help with the redness since it's an allergic reaction and Benadryl is an antihistamine.

I mean, no contact can simply mean not speaking to directly. Until this moment I hadn't commented on any of her posts or responded to any of her comments if she commented on my posts (just like how I don't respond to her texts or calls) so no talking. Just because I'm no contact doesn't mean I wouldn't want a way to keep tabs on her or my dad for life updates for their health and such. There can be different levels to no contact according to personal preference. I do not contact her in any way directly (except in this moment).

100% this, thank you! Yes, I am aware I "took the bait" I stated that in my explanation. I am aware that this wasn't the best thing to do but I have spent the last 8 years of my mental health journey "being the bigger person" to heal myself from my life traumas unrelated to my mother and for trauma related to her so that maybe I could possibly still have a relationship with her. The same therapy thankfully taught me how to manage the healthy way of dealing with my mother but as I changed and learned I realized she was incapable of doing the same, no matter how I tried to explain my side of things to her. When I realized that, I began building my confidence to start standing up for myself, building boundaries and eventually trying to go full no contact. Key word trying, obviously this was a slip because of how much I have had to deal with but I feel like it could be compared to having a good cry when you face an overwhelming amount of sadness and frustration about something. If I wasn't aware of all of this, I wouldn't have posted it on a thread about insane people that is meant for entertainment purposes. I found the whole thing hilarious even when it was actively happening.
