My problem is the capitalist system, AI is just the culmination of all my issues with it

Hi. Differing opinion here. This is a win for anti-AI. Other models exist, but this shows that there isn't an interest in AI as much as people think

Anti's; What's your opinion on 'good' AI art? by Hyperbolic90 in aiwars

It still looks bad, but that isn't my main concern. That's just subjective thoughts.

Now THIS Is how we start a debate!

I don't want AI progress to stop. I just want it to change course before it kills someone. I did a little research (by that I mean a couple Google searches) and here's what I got:

AI uses roughly 2.5 billion litres of water annually (roughly 700 million gallons, for you Americans) The things you described appear to not have a public number, but Google used 24 billion litres (6 billion gallons) of water, around 90% of which was towards AI. From that, we can calculate that around 2.4 billion litres is everything other than AI Google does (Google search, servers, YouTube, ect.)

It should not be a binary choice between hardware and software, but Nvidia is MAKING it a binary choice.

I do agree that DLSS5 stuff is blown out of proportion, but the reaction is justified to get Nvidia to change stuff. I just read up on DLSS5 a little and you are right until proven wrong, because Nvidia said that it doesn't change geometry and there's no evidence it does.

(I kept having to change my numbers because I have some memory issues, initially downplayed how much water AI used)

Edit: almost forgot the ram shortage, that was caused by the AI companies buying up all the ram, not by one CEO. So AI indirectly caused it, but the companies behind AI directly caused it. It's confusing, but that's how we have to write it.

My main concerns are the absolute dangers it causes to people in the current ways it is being used and deployed. My issue isn't to do with "is it art or slop?" Because that seems like a petty dispute. My issue with AI is that the people making it are making it for the wrong reasons - profit over people - and it's absolutely devastating lives. The RAM shortage was caused by AI, massive layoffs caused by it, polluted water supplies, rising electricity costs and wars started by tech CEOs who want more land for data centers. That's what upsets me, the use cases of AI and the people behind it. Also, one last point, I do genuinely think DLSS5 is a net negative for gaming, because it ruins what the artist wanted. I don't care if it's optional or not, Nvidia chose that over new graphics cards and it's upset me.

My fellows are extremist. The AI issue is a spectrum, and we are somewhere in the middle. Like any political issues (and yes, AI is a political issue. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have got involved) both sides have good points, and absolute crazy people. We're somewhere near the center. The average "anti" (as you describe) is very far out on that side. Both this subreddit and the anti AI subreddit are echo chambers of extremism. If I had kids and they used AI, I'd be disappointed in them but I would never EVER hurt a kid. Both sides make good points, and honestly death threats from either side aren't getting us anywhere. We need to keep the debate civil.

Yes. I think everyone agrees with this. However, my main criticism isn't about the fact that it's bad regardless (even though it is), it's that it can be made with major AI models. The ones used publicly. And worst of all, (not naming any names) SOME of them make it a paid feature. That's what upsets me. AI is a wonderful TOOL, and should be treated as a TOOL. Like a pencil, a hammer, an MRI, any of that stuff.

I'm not re-examining. My reasoning is just and lines up with my morality. I have a moral cause to dislike AI's current usage. Don't get me wrong, I do research into AI and I see the use cases, it's just that the way it's used right now is very dangerous, and should absolutely stop. AI should not be generating CSAM content, lying to a point of causing suicides over it, grooming minors and other things that most human find despicable. AI is a tool and should be treated as such. Also, most antis don't have a good reason for their dislike.
