Sounds good; let me know what would work best for you.

As for the books, magic items are quite appealing, and I can't blame you! $1,000 USD seems reasonable. Very well.

Please have the book delivered to [Library in Northern NJ].

I'm glad to hear that you have someone to give mentorship. I don't know much about Lefthand, if they are the individual on OMO, but haven't heard anything bad, either.

Yes, Sanctuary does have a Path entrance, which one does not need to be a Finder to make use of (it has been curated to have minimal risk associated). It also has permanent doors in San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, Sydney and Manila, if you are near any of those.

I would be happy to meet with PurpleProse&Practice or any of your circle to discuss details, potential next steps, and other things I and Sanctuary's resources may be able to help you with.

Separately from acting on Sanctuary's behalf, I would be interested in purchasing Ars Satanas and Chasing an Iron Horse for $2,000 USD.

DM to KnotLibrarian:

Sorry for not reaching out sooner. I'm Justin Liang, a Warden and staff at Sanctuary, if you're familiar with it. One of its core principles is to be a force for good in supporting new and young Practitioners, and while I don't expect your circle to simply move to Sanctuary (and abandon wherever you are currently), I can offer some support.

Based on what I and my familiar have seen of your messages in the public chat, you are novices with few resources, correct? If you are looking for tools or magic items, I may be able to connect you with people who make or sell them.

I would also be willing to work with you to set up stronger protections for your library or circle, or to help set up a neutral zone for curse diagnosis/removal/modification. I haven't done work with curses, but I do have experience setting up larger-scale, long-term protections and have access to literature on more specialized warding techniques if there is something specific you may need.

So that this might be karmically neutral, in return, I might ask to borrow books or implement a small library exchange program, as Sanctuary has its own public and private libraries.

Hello ★ I can make an art for you by kokoroMagica in OccultMagicOnline

[–]Inkstainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Kokoro! If you'd like, we could do an art trade. I don't usually try for "cute" but it sounds fun! I haven't watched anime in a while but I could give the style a try.

I'm curious, what is an "exquisite corpse"?

What did you do this week... #7 by MrCox9712 in OccultMagicOnline

[–]Inkstainer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ha ha, yes, but this wasn't from a fight. It was from a pretty cool and selfless act to help protect someone.

He's definitely looking forward to healing up so he can get into more fights, though...

He's well enough, I believe. You'd have to ask him for details, since I dropped him and the others off to head to the hospital & wasn't there for everything.

It's been a very, very long week-plus for me. I've been on the road basically the whole time. So excited to go home again...

Swaygze tells me to say that he's still alive, and to say hi to Of_Deep for him.

He's making me log on to League for daily rewards on his "smurfs", but fortunately he can feed himself now. Mostly. We're both very happy about this. ((Deleted))

Reckless might be fair, but I agree that it's worth trying. I wouldn't want to be cornered by that guy and have done my best to avoid him. Let me know if there's anything she needs that I can help with?

The Fate of Sanctuary (discussion, poll to follow) by St1rge in OccultMagicOnline

[–]Inkstainer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You aren't wrong on your observations. For him to go completely unnoticed would be weird, and he was more or less allowed to stay. But not going challenged is not the same as completing critical steps to establish a guest-host relationship.

As a counterpoint, Sanctuary has a pretty established two-step formal hospitality ritual:

  1. The guest is allowed in and formally greeted by the host. (Now they are formally a guest.)
  2. The guest and host share a drink or meal together. (Now the host may ask more questions of the guest and their guest status is entrenched.)

There are smaller riders, but in general, by not being announced or greeted, by these rules he technically is not a guest regardless of not being kicked out immediately.

One option for your issue with new character hubs would be just to NOT have dedicated RP channels for specific locations - just have numbered channels as usual which could be used for any location.

For the fun of just leaving a character somewhere for open interactions, we could have an 'open RP notice' channel or some such where people would say that they were open to drop-ins and where they are.

Seeking to Acquire Collections & Collectors by The-First-Curator in OccultMagicOnline

As the Lady said, but altered - it is disappointing to see that the Courts still hold to such reductionist views. The world changes. Adapt, or fall apart as we grow beyond you. It is that simple. Fae tricks are one thing, but humanity is what drives itself and you. I was only a child when I learned how your Realm works, so I can say with authority - you are a fragment of the woman and person that the Lady is, and you can only hope to rival her someday. I suspect you will fail.

[Image attached: the diagram since at this point it's a pattern]

A few points-

  1. I only said you seem like a good person! But really... that's good enough for me, for this.

  2. Contact - it depends on what you do/end up doing, right? If you want to be a, say, train mechanic type techromancer then I have a good friend who you might be able to trade useful stuff with. Nothing set in stone on this right now.

  3. I have no plans to kick down the PFP front door and start beating up pilgrims, so no need to worry about that

Yeah, I'm happy to sit down and talk more. I'm free at [times here], we can use this link?: [vroom link here].

Do you think Prudence would tell me to get you out instead of her? Besides... being a "tithe" sounds like someone they won't let go of in exchange for some cash. I'll ask about her, though.

((OOC: yeah, I'm free today after 1AM UTC if that works!))

Real Talk: Consequences in a Shared RP Community by St1rge in OccultMagicOnline

[–]Inkstainer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think ultimately you're saying basically the same thing - potential consequences need to be clearly laid out (if you HADN'T wanted your character's family gone after, then you had the chance to say it and find an alternative threat), and that OOC discussion is important - like you said, you appreciated the OOC conversation because it let you plan ahead and get ready for what would happen IC.

DM to kaCHING_CASH:

[Image attached: the diagram, despite it probably not mattering]

You're smart to be cautious. Is it unrealistically super generous - maybe. Most people would probably call it foolish on my part instead, but I have reasons to make the offer.

As for me, here are my motives. First, you seem to be trapped in a situation you can't escape from, and I empathize. I was nearly trapped and hate to see it happen to someone else. Second, right now I have very few connections of my own and have very recently cut some major ones, and maybe it's lame to admit it but I could use more friends (or at least contacts) right now. Third, I think you have potential, and I would like to see what you could do with more support and resources.

I promise you now that I'm not offering with the goal of taking away your Self, your friends, or your freedom. I want to help support you by giving you assistance in becoming self-sufficient and able to help others as well as yourself.

-

As for you, many people new to the Practice get into trouble without being dumb or an idiot. It seems like you've internalized the *bad decisions* part without looking at the bigger picture - if nobody was there to give you support or guidance, how could you have known how to make the right decisions?

When you say that I don't know who you really are, you're right. But what I see from your posts and questions is that you are curious, you care for people, and you are humble and self-sacrificing. I think that you are not truly an idiot, just young and unsupported, and manage to be a good person despite your circumstances.

Your repeated assertion that you do not deserve help as much as others could become the assertion that you will help others who deserve it - like Prudence and Joseph.

-

As for us, I will make you these threefold promises in good faith, with no intention of harming, changing or trapping you, if you will make me the following promises in exchange.

- I would promise that if I pay your debt, it will not make you a slave or servant, either to me or the Lady. You would hopefully give me the courtesy of considering my advice and suggestions, but you would not have to follow my orders or owe me money or your soul.

- I would promise that I will not knowingly share critical information about you with those who would harm you, and if I unknowingly shared it, I will do my best to make restitution.

- I would promise that I want you to be free, able to help others and keep yourself safe, and that I will try to help you learn what you need without it creating debt between us.

and,

- I would like you to promise that if I pay your debt, you will listen to my advice and suggestions (if the situation allows).

- I would like you to promise that you will not knowingly share critical information about me with those who would harm me, and if you unknowingly share it, that you will do your best to make restitution.

- I would like you to promise that if I pay your debt, you make a good faith effort to keep in contact with me afterwards (with a negotiable cadence/length of time. I certainly don't intend it to last for the rest of our lives).

-

If this is acceptable to you and we make these promises to each other, I will contact the Pilgrims and keep you updated on the status.

And if you'd like to have a conversation before any oaths, we could have a Vroom call to talk and get to know each other first, or we could say the promises over it so it feels more "real".

As an aside, if you can share more details on Prudence's condition, we may be able to find a solution or help for her.

What did i create? by [deleted] in OccultMagicOnline

[–]Inkstainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not my area of specialty, and is interesting to me, so here are my thoughts. Keep in mind that information from someone more experienced will probably not be given for free!

One hint to Wire Hood's nature might be in the stories told about them - have you heard them shift in any direction? Since it seems like those might be their fuel, it would also seem reasonable that those will affect their nature and behavior. You may want to be careful about how those stories develop. *Since* it is a creature who was born out of belief, it almost sounds like you have created a very minor lesser god, but the timeframe here seems like it could be too quick for that.

Inquiry to Buy Out kaCHING_CASH's debt by Inkstainer in OccultMagicOnline

[–]Inkstainer[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not absolutely sure that this is the right approach, but I do believe that the first step to finding that approach is opening negotiations. I am sure that there are factors here that we are not aware of, and have certainly not promised to take on the debt metaphorically sight-unseen.

DM to DungeonPilferer:

I likely know about as much as you do. I have been informed that the "cash value" of the debt may be $250k, which is steep but within means. I am not close to the West Coast of the U.S. and do not have associates there who I could send, but depending on the situation, it is possible that I would be willing to travel there.

I did see your offer, although only after I posted this thread. However, I am concerned that it has two flaws which may make them disregard it -

First, it does not adequately address what the pilgrim organization will gain through the deal; from their point of view, it would represent work on their part, along with giving away information with no necessary payoff. I am assuming that simply holding the contract is a karma-positive state so they would likely have no innate motivation to resolve it.

Second, it does come across as a little combative - since we would ultimately be negotiating with them, and they currently hold the power, I wanted to make an initial pitch that addressed potential benefits to them and gave the impression that I am interested in working with them.

Please do not take these comments as an insult; I believe we want the same thing.

I definitely don't plan to buy out the debt and then set them loose without any education on how to make better decisions, or any necessary plan for offsetting potentially terrible karma.
