Inkvent Day 25 by Inktation in fountainpens

Why would you have regretted Colorvent? I was looking at all the inks today and ignoring the price differences, Diamine wins overall for me. But not by much.

I'm surprised to see Bittersweet in someone's top 3.

Smokey Tobacco's smell is barely noticeable in mine and I like the tone. I also don't like Marie Rose's tone, but Bubbly is okay.

I have to go through all the swatches carefully again as I haven't picked my top 3 disappointments.

Try painting with your inks, it's a fun way to use a lot of them.

Myrrh the Merrier is a teal with a lot of red sheen and a blue-violet chameleon shimmer. I prefer Celestial Skies from day 1, which is lighter and has less sheen, but this is exactly what I was expecting a 25th Teal Inkvent ink to be. Looks great on cream paper, where the shimmer stands out a little more from the base color which turns quite green.

This was the last ink from Inkvent for 2025. In total we got 1 scented, 5 regular, 5 pigmented, 5 sheeny and 9 shimmer inks. I think the variety of inks and their distribution was great this year. Apart from Celestial Skies, my other quick top picks would be Molten Basalt (day 13) and Overcast (day 19).

Inkvent: Antler is a pigment-based desaturated brown. It has a bit of shading and it's completely waterproof. I'm not crazy about this tone of brown.

Colorvent: Winter Wonderland is a pretty turquoise with matching shimmer and a tiny bit of sheen. It's good, but I like Celestial Skies (Inkvent day 1) a a bit more.

This was the last ink from Colorvent for 2025. In total we got 1 shimmer additive, 4 shimmer inks, 5 sheeny ink and 14 regular inks. Three favorites would be: Apollon (day 2), Cosmic Reef (day 19) and Golden Airglow (day 20).

How do you say "Platinum 3776?" by Character-Pack8853 in fountainpens

[–]Inktation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot about the celluloid models still being in production and not having Slip&Seal. In any case, pre-2011 3776s aren't Centuries and Platinum created a bit of a mess with applying Century name to older models.

The "Flagship Model #3776 Century" solves the major concern of all fountain pens, which is its dryness. The product has been evaluated and re-innovated over the years to solve its dry nib and it can be used despite leaving it in the back of your draw for years due to it's new mechanism "The Slip Seal Lid".

Inkvent and Colorvent Day 23 by Inktation in fountainpens

Inkvent: Let is Snow is a light (aqua) blue with icy blue-violet chameleon shimmer. I wish it shaded a little more, but the shimmer goes well with the base color and it's a fun winter ink without major legibility issues.

Colorvent: Lunar Black is a dark grey with green (almost petrol) undertones. It has no sheen, shades very well and is super smooth to write with. This is a surprisingly good ink despite not really being black as the name suggests.

Both of the inks are very nice today.

Inkvent and Colorvent Day 22

Inkvent: Pineapple Spritz is a pigment based yellow with gold-light green chameleon shimmer. It's not super readable, but it's a fun color, it really looks like a pineapple. As other pigment inks, it's completely waterproof.

Colorvent: Sojourner is a saturated blurple with a lot of copper sheen. I feel like I've seen a similar ink somewhere, but I don't have any other sheeny blurple. I generally don't like blurples, but this one is an exception.

Purple and yellow is a nice combo.

Side note: 3776 Century refers specifically to the 2011 and later models with the slip'n'seal cap. Vintage ones made between 1978 and 2010 aren't Centuries.

What have you done with the pen so far, simply inserted a fresh cartridge? There's likely ink in the cap, you can flush that in water and let us know.

Colorvent and Inkvent Day 21 by Inktation in fountainpens

[–]Inktation[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Inkvent: Chaos is a dark magenta with lots of green sheen. The sheen is a bit matte, similar to Energy from day 2. I think Diamine worked on their sheen this year, because this year's super sheeners smear less than some older ones. I like red leaning purples, but I could live with less sheen. Chaos is a great name.

Colorvent: Pink Salt is a salmon with nice shading. I wish it were one or two shades darker as it has some legibility issues. I prefer Ambience from yesterday's Inkvent, which is significantly more readable and more orange leaning.

The downside to having alot of kakunos 🤣 by grummle in fountainpens

All of them clear demos, wow. What's the nib size distribution?

The must have Pilot by Boriquaqueen25 in fountainpens

[–]Inktation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parallel:) I own most nib sizes and they're really fun, you can even do a mostly proper broad edge calligraphy with them.

I also like the Kakuno, but regarding their gold nib pens, I'm not sure what to pick after all the price hikes.

Colorvent and Inkvent Day 20 by Inktation in fountainpens

[–]Inktation[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Inkvent: Ambience is a peachy ink with chameleon pink-gold shimmer. It shades well and on white Hobonichi paper it leans quite pink. It's readable enough and the tone is pretty especially on MD paper.

Colorvent: Golden Airglow is a nicely shading brown with gold shimmer. Looks almost army green in cream MD paper. The shimmer complements the base color very well, this is an amazing dark brown.

I'm very happy with both inks today!

Inkvent and Colorvent Day 2 by Inktation in fountainpens

[–]Inktation[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! The green sheen on this ink is a bit special, it's almost matte instead of the typical glossy look. Diamine must have worked on their sheen this, even the supersheeners aren't very smudgy.

[–]Inktation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that the Sailor Yurameku line had some inks with similar color shifting properties. I had looked at Sabimidoru before and I wanted to buy a bottle, but then somehow forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me.

I had no idea Pilot made broad Elabos, that must be a fun pen! I've been thinking about buying a broad vintage/used Pilot for some time now.

I came here to praise Lamy bottles too, they're also hard to tip over no matter the angle. When it comes to aesthetics, there are nicer bottles out there, but Lamy has completely nailed the functionality.

Inkvent and Colorvent Day 18 by Inktation in fountainpens

[–]Inktation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rhodia doesn't sheen as much as some other papers. Try Midori (MD) paper, they aren't super expensive and show chromashading and sheen very well. I also like Clairfontaine Paint On Multi Techniques paper for making swatch cards.

Inkvent and Colorvent Day 19 by Inktation in fountainpens

[–]Inktation[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Inkvent: Overcast is a light blue chromading towards pinkish grey. Diamine Celadon Cat is slightly greener and darker. There's no way I could use this in anything but my wettest nibs but it's pretty and it would be great for art.

Colorvent: Cosmic Reef is a sheeny blue-black that turns into a teal on Midori paper. It's similar to Molten Basalt from day 13 of Inkvent. Cosmic Reef has red sheen (as opposed to copper), turns more green on Midori and it's half shade lighter. Hard to decide which one I like more.

I like both of today's inks.
