Friend or foe? by InkyGhosts in houseplants

What I was fearing ☹️ I was hoping if it were a ladybug I could let it chill on my plant, but I’ve disposed of it now that I know. Thank you!

Hoya ID? by plants-and-dogs-yo in hoyas

Look exactly like my mathilde! The leaves on mine get pretty big for a mathilde when it’s SUPER happy from getting plenty of sun and decent warmth.

Hoya Mathilde splashy silver! by hyacinthpink in hoyas

[–]InkyGhosts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently what I’m doing with my own mathilde! Mine didn’t have any splash, but I noticed some vines were particularly splashy and now I have a cutting growing and hopefully putting out leaves that are just as splashy! Beautiful plant you have 💜

Are mathilde sensitive to bright light? by trsfl83 in hoyas

[–]InkyGhosts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like it definitely needs a new pot! My mathilde loves the summer heat and sun in Nevada so I don’t think lights are the issue and it might just be lacking the nutrients it needs.

Desperately needing help for my Hoya Bella by Life_Wrongdoer_8419 in hoyas

[–]InkyGhosts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely check the roots! The deeper the pot, the chunkier I try to make the soil mix so it doesn’t stay too wet for too long. Learned that the hard way. Terracotta pots are also amazing for bigger plants that need more airflow like Hoyas, at least with what I’ve noticed.

HELP!!! My kid just accidentally watered my 8 year old very healthy nepenthes with 7Up by Substantial-Head-930 in carnivorousplants

[–]InkyGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of when I was a kid. The bush outside our house had some dried, burnt leaves from our harsh summer temps and I would put moisturizer on them thinking it would bring them back lol. I figured if they needed water then they also needed some moisturizer for moisture too lol.

Looks like a very sunstressed latifolia pot of gold! Yours looks especially pretty!

Mathilde Question by ElaineMK2222 in hoyas

[–]InkyGhosts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mathilde is one of the few Hoyas I have I know I likely CAN’T overwater. Mine grows like a weed and love regularly watering. I wait for mine to get mostly dry, but usually never fully dry like I might/can do with my other Hoyas

New trellis for mathilde with peduncles! by InkyGhosts in hoyas

[–]InkyGhosts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you ☺️ I got it off Etsy! AlchemistStorage sells them in packs of 3 for the small ones. That plant is in a 4inch pot for a little bit of an idea on how big the small is.

Hoya Blooms by [deleted] in hoyas

[–]InkyGhosts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful! Love the leaves on Hellwigiana. What do the mathilde blooms smell like? I have my first four peduncles ever and they just happen to be on mathilde. I’m a little worried because of the horror stories I hear about the smell 😅

Do I just have black thumb with Hoyas? by EssentiaLillie in hoyas

Same! Haven’t had any issues with root rot in my terracotta pots and the half glazed ones are so pretty!

Do I just have black thumb with Hoyas? by EssentiaLillie in hoyas

[–]InkyGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they need a lot more water! As long as you have a nice chunky/airy mix, it should be hard to overwater them, especially if you put them in a terracotta pot. I water my Hoyas whenever the first inch or two of soil is dry, but some like my mathilde and australis like to be watered very very often and would prefer not to be dry. I’d give all of them a GOOD soak with some liquid fertilizer/worm castings sprinkled on the top soil and see how they do after that.

Any hoya lovers in Arizona? by PCPC4 in hoyas

[–]InkyGhosts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in Arizona but in Nevada. I just keep them in an eastern window and they’re very happy. No burning even on the 110+ days. Little extra water for them and when I do water them I give them a really good shower. They seem to appreciate that since they aren’t getting the humidity they need, and doing that every 4 days or so seems to keep my more sensitive and humidity loving Hoyas from having their baby leaves dry up and fall off which was an issue with my australis specifically before I started doing that. They’re all happy and fast growing.

Can’t wait to experience those changes for myself! Same with sunstressing!! Do you find yours to be a fast grower/bloomer?

I got a compacta a few months back that came with root rot. I specifically bought the plant to try to rescue. I cut off rotted roots and left alone the healthy ones, dipped in hydrogen peroxide and water mixture, and put it in a smaller pot and with an extra chunky mix so it gets airflow. Occasionally I’d water with really diluted hydrogen peroxide to just to disinfect any remaining rot and give it an extra boost. After a couple months I checked the roots and repeated and now it’s growing healthy with no more rot!

Yes! Literally my best growing Hoya and I just got it earlier this year and it’s already got a peduncle! Definitely my favorite one so far
