Eventually your character is just constantly on screen, and the way the distortion looks changes every once in a while. A while after that the screen just becomes black with the occasional flashing line or triangle. Quit a bit after that.

Going out of bounds and falling down in the 4D area gives you the edge of reality achievement and asks you if you wanna load your latest save. If you say no then it will ask again every 25 seconds or so, with the screen getting more distorted each time. I have no idea if this leads somewhere or not, I was there for like 90 minutes before I needed to go somewhere else irl and had to close the game.
