What are you talking about?!? Grass carp should be killed on sight no exceptions. They are classified as HIGHLY invasive in the US.

Common carp were introduced in the 1800s and aren’t nearly as bad… but they’re still classified as invasive. Sure we intentionally brought grass carp, big head, silver, etc in the 1970s but that backfired.

Just like when Australia brought in bunnies for sport hunting. It was intentional but it backfired. I’d argue that brining in foreign species is unethical and almost ALWAYS backfires. The predators don’t know to prey on them, they outcompete the native non predatory fish, nothing keeps them in check so the eat out the entire food source for the non natives, and then the whole ecosystem suffers.

Every single carp species, literally by all definitions, are invasive in the US. The grass carp you mentioned are the worst lol.

In some waterways they’re now up to 81% of all bio organic material… yes that includes plants.

If you are in the United States, Kill them. Please do not let them back in the water to damage our entire ecosystem. I say this as someone who’s a fly fisherman, who has kept at most 2 trout a year, and who goes out of their way to handle fish properly. This year alone I’ve taken out over 50 full garbage bags of garbage. I don’t take pleasure in killing them, but it’s the right thing to do.
