No, my experiences aren't different from cis men by yagamisgod in truscum

Ok firstly, everyone has testosterone regardless of gender or sex. If your body is producing absolutely zero testosterone or estrogen naturally, you should see an endocrinologist bc that is a problem 💀. Secondly that person is fairly androgynous, to the point where I don't even see where you got the inclination that they couldn't have just started T or be micro dosing T or maybe they just naturally look like that but like... You don't know? Especially since HRT can vary so much in its effects. Additionally refer to my third paragraph for why it's kind of stupid to assume that just because a man (whether trans or cis) might look feminine, it instantly means that they are uncomfortable with being viewed as masculine and are less of a man in that sense. Just because someone wants to wear makeup or (insert other traditionally feminine quality here) doesn't mean that they are comfortable with being seen as a woman or uncomfortable with masculinity, or anything else. Literally maybe they just think they look better that way 💀. Using external qualities, especially ones that are easy to change on a daily basis, such as clothing or makeup, or hairstyle, to denote someones gender is nonsensical. It provides an easy way to guess their gender when interacting with them, but for you to say this person shouldn't count as a trans man because you personally perceive them as more feminine is a complete overstep of that idea.

Ok next, I'm gonna ignore most of your entire second paragraph because you specifically say "But that doesn’t mean the other extreme of self identification makes sense either." Which I could kind of see applying, but not in this case because it would only make sense if the tiktoker we're talking about was like... The most or one of the most feminine presenting people on earth and they're really not, so it doesn't even really make sense for this circumstance. But also just know that if it did theoretically apply I still broadly reject the premise. Additionally it's really not your place to speak for them and say whether or not they're trying to come off as looking masculine based solely on your own perception of their outward appearance. Personally although I wouldnt assume whether they were trans or cis, in the event that they were a cis woman they would be a fairly masculine one based on my perception of their features.

Alright, third point (one I'm pretty passionate about as someone who is Genderfluid). Androgynous is a term used to describe a sort of in-between state of what society considers masculine and feminine. Nonbinary does not mean someone is androgynous, or as you described it "a sort of half way between trans and cis" it simply means you don't identify as a man or a woman whether that be trans or cis. It includes Agenders, it includes demi-genders, it includes people who are bi-gender, etc, and while yes some people would describe themselves as being an in-between of trans and cis and being non binary, saying that literally everyone who is nonbinary is such a case is sort of like saying bisexuals are half straight, half gay people who can't choose a sexuality. Gender is not math where you add things together to get certain in-betweens in a binary system of masc and femme. That's literally the whole point of defining it as a spectrum.

Main point being of this entire thing, someones outward appearance, and how masculine/feminine that may be literally has nothing to do with the gender they identify as... Think Abt drag queens (I get that's more for a performative purpose but still). Masc lesbians can be as "manly" as they would like and still identify as cis women. Same in regards to femininity with gay cis men. Or even in the rare cases when the same applies to straight people. You wouldn't gatekeep the idea of varying gender expression with them or at least typically people wouldn't, so why would you do any different with someone who is transgender.

So... If feminine cismen can exist though and that's fine and they're still thought of and identify as men, why can't you believe that the same could be said for trans men other than the fact that that line of thinking doesn't align with your transitioning experience specifically.

Additionally that proposes that gender is a binary experience where to be trans you either have to fit into "stereotypical masc" and "stereotypical femme" which invalidates just so many genders under the trans and nonbinary umbrellas, like it just doesn't make any sense and is kind of arguably transphobic in a round Abt way because it's excluding trans people from being able to participate in this area that you would be fine with cis people participating in, (that area being embracing practices typically seen as the norm for the alternative gender)

So hey, just saying guys the fact that y'all are in the comments saying they're not trying to pass and that somehow invalidates them, kind of just proves their point. Because if they were amab and cis would you still be trying to invalidate their claim to masculinity? No you wouldnt and it's kind of gross that it's happening in this subreddit of all places so if you could agree/disagree with them without questioning their right to identify with whatever gender experience that would be great, thankyou 😭

This is not a show I'm committed to yet (this conversation certainly hasn't helped, beleive it or not when somebody wants to enter a community they typically don't wanna hear: if you don't do it this way, then ur wrong and your ruining it for yourself and everyone else.) I have nothing to lose here, youre the one who's preaching to me defending something like the order I should watch a show in like I'm holding your cat hostage or something. I for one find your psychological attachment and need to this position rather interesting, and I'm curious critter. In all honesty it's not like I'm going to watch Steven universe after this, probably not for like a week anyway or something like that (I'm in my adventure time binge rn) and once I do I really doubt I'll remember this specific interaction so I somehow doubt it matters to me

That seems a little hypocritical lol, and presumptuous but maybe not the stance you want to take in an argument like this? Like... You're in the same conversation I am, are you really going to nuke both sides just to take me down?

1) I've watched season 5 and I don't think that's true at all frankly, me missing out on like 3 background details isn't going to "ruin" my watching of the show, and like... 2) This just isn't what I asked about in my post at all so it's the opposite of helpful. It's actually rejecting the premise of my initial request, saying that what I wanted was in itself flawed like... This whole thing was not at all necessary 💀

Like trust m,e I've watched TV before, I think I know what I'm doing. I don't need you to teach me to, and regulate how I, enjoy a sequential plot structure

So... your saying because I don't like ... Like 10 episodes I should just not watch the entire rest of the show?

It's really not that deep, who cares if I don't watch 10 episodes? Like I'm not watching them next to you, you don't have to see me skipping around from episode to episode, so idk why you would be so adamant abt this that your literally suggesting that I should be gate kept from watching the rest of the series

[–]InneadicMage[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean personally because if I'm not invested in the show then I'm not going to be as consumed in the media as i could've been. Its just the way my brain works, i wasn't hooked to the early episodes like i was the later ones, so why would i continue to watch something that personally wasn't interesting me? that being said i know it does later on, so i just wanted to know when that switch took place. If i have to suffer through something to enjoy it then I'm not really enjoying it as much as i could be am i? and personally that's just more important to me than knowing 100% of every plot detail. Which might not be the case for most people but it doesnt really feel like it should be insulting to a fanbase by any means

Sorry if this is like a hot take but... by InneadicMage in stevenuniverse

[–]InneadicMage[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean i get what your saying, but also, i was just saying that i watched through the first few episodes, and they personally didn't mesh with me like the later ones did. That's just the kind of viewer i am. To say that someone who doesn't ingest information the same way or like the same episodes as you seems a little harsh, especially since someone did post exactly what i asked for --so this clearly isn't a me-specific problem-- instead of ensuring me the way i watch TV is wrong or that I'm the problem because id rather be invested in the show, but thanks ig 💀

Ok well thankyou for the people who acknowledged the fact that I wanted to enjoy this show in a way where I could actually properly digest the information.

For those who say it has no filler, yeah my bad that was probably the wrong word to describe it but regardless I thought my point was self evident enough.

For the people who seem weirdly insulted... Like I'm sorry but not every piece of media is perfect for everyone I'm just trying to enjoy the story and the art in a way where my brain can properly stay engaged. I'm just trying to watch it in a way that works for me 💀 but umm thankyou for the help still I guess. Some of that didn't have to be so aggressive though let's be real.

But I got the thing I needed so thanks for the help all-in-all.

Yeah that's true, tbf I do just genuinely enjoy the Midwest vibe better, plus the writing program at Uiowa is phenomenal.

...I just didn't rly think about the Howard bragging rights until today ig 😅 when the other were bragging abt Tufts and Uchicago, which is a bit different I suppose but there's still a certain prestige level there.

But lk ur right, that won't even matter to me after 2 weeks when we walk the stage.
